Inspirational honorary graduates celebrated at Stirling University's summer graduation
Former Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallström, SPFL Trust CEO Nicky Reid, dedicated volunteer Lynda Morrison and events supremo Paul Bush OBE will receive honorary degrees at next week's summer graduation at Stirling University.
Margot, a Swedish parliamentarian who pioneered the world's first feminist foreign policy and is a passionate advocate for the environment, will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate in recognition of her outstanding contribution to protecting the environment and championing women's rights at Wednesday's ceremony.
Across her illustrious political career, Margot has held a number of senior roles including serving as the first ever Vice President of the European Commission, the first United Nations Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict, and Chair of the Council of Women World Leaders Ministerial Initiative.
The same day, Lynda Morrison, who has volunteered 20 years of her life to helping shape the delivery of social work and nursing education through the University of Stirling's Service User and Carer Group (UNITY), will receive an honorary Master of Arts degree. She will be recognised for her long and meritorious voluntary service to social work and social work education, and to improving the lives of service users nationally and internationally.
The UNITY group, which Lynda was instrumental in setting up in 2005, has attracted national and international recognition for being one of the first to involve service users and carers in the design, development, and delivery of teaching to social work and nursing students.
On Thursday, Paul Bush OBE, the former director of events for VisitScotland who played a vital role in bringing major spectacles including the Commonwealth Games, the Ryder Cup and UEFA Euro 2020 to Scotland, will receive an Honorary Doctorate. He will be recognised for his outstanding contribution to sport and to the events industry in the country.
He is a previous chief executive of Scottish Swimming and, while in that role, worked closely with the University of Stirling in developing the state-of-the-art National Swimming Academy. Alongside the facility, he built a professional coaching and performance management structure for the sport which led to significant and continuing international success.
Paul will be joined by Nicky Reid, chief executive officer (CEO) of the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) Trust, who will also be made a Doctor of the University for her outstanding contribution to charity and exceptional leadership qualities.
Nicky achieved a Film, Media and Sociology degree from the University of Stirling in 2007 and went on to hold the position of Learning Centre Manager at Falkirk Football Club.
Professor Sir Gerry McCormac, principal and vice-chancellor of the University of Stirling, said: 'Summer graduation is always a special highlight in the university calendar, and we are delighted that those celebrating next week will be joined by four inspiring role models.
'Each of our honorary graduates has made a lasting impact in their fields, contributing in powerful and enduring ways to society. We are proud to recognise their achievements and know that they will be outstanding ambassadors for the University.'

If the relationship sours then that would crank up the pressure on the Tyneside club to allow Isak to get his wish by doing a deal with the Reds. Liverpool have been here before with Van Dijk. They backed off from making a move for the Dutchman when Southampton reported them to the Premier League over their conduct during negotiations in the summer of 2017. The complaint was dropped when Jurgen Klopp went public to declare their interest in the defender over - but five months later Van Dijk was snapped up for £75million. Former Saints chairman Ralph Krueger admitted that the saga had 'created an earthquake' at St Mary's. If Newcastle 's Saudi owners feel they are being manoeuvred into a tough position then it might backfire on both Liverpool and Isak. But boss Howe is keen to build on the optimism of ending Toon's 70-year wait for a domestic trophy last season and qualifying for the Champions League. He has been careful not to close the door on his best player returning to the fold. Howe, whose team face Tottenham in Seoul on Sunday, said: 'I am very much removed from everything that is happening back home. "I was made aware there was a bid yesterday. That bid was turned down before I heard about it. There are people back in England dealing with the situation. 'I really don't know what is going to happen next but, from our perspective, we still support Alex in every way and my wish is still that we see him in a Newcastle shirt again. 'I know where he is through the media, so I think from that perspective it's difficult for me to go into any detail. The situation is far from ideal. It is quite complex. I think that is all I have got to say." Newcastle are confident they have edged ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign RB Leipzig's Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko after tabling a bid worth £70million, including add-ons. Liverpool 'immediately open talks' with Real Madrid star Rodrygo after Alexander Isak bid
Liverpool have reporredly contacted the representatives of Real Madrid winger Rodrygo as they step up their pursuit of attacking reinforcements following their rejected bid for Alexander Isak Liverpool have reportedly made contact with Real Madrid's Rodrygo following their initially unsuccessful attempt to sign Alexander Isak. After a bid £110million for the Newcastle striker was turned down in favour of a £150m price tag, Liverpool have cooled their interest in the Swedish forward for now. Despite Isak's efforts to secure a move to Anfield, including rejecting a new contract in the north east and training with his former club Real Sociedad, he will now rejoin the squad after their Far East tour. Following Luis Diaz's £65.5m move to Bayern Munich, Liverpool are still looking to strengthen their attack. Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott are also anticipated to leave Merseyside this summer in search of more playing time. According to ESPN Brazil, Liverpool have reached out to Rodrygo's representatives in light of recent events, ahead of making an official offer. The 24-year-old, who has also been linked with Arsenal, is believed to have agreed personal terms with the current Premier League champions. Rodrygo has fallen out of favour with Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid, who is prioritising Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr, leading Rodrygo to contemplate a move to England. He is valued at around £70m, reports the Express. But clubs are now aware that Liverpool still have money to spend, having splashed out on Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong for nearly £300m combined, after Eddie Howe confirmed a bid for Isak. Newcastle make Benjamin Sesko bid with Alexander Isak's future ‘complex'

The PA news agency understands Newcastle have accelerated talks with Leipzig to sign Sesko – who Manchester United also have in their sights – and submitted an offer reportedly worth up to £69.7million. The development comes after the Magpies rejected a £110m bid for Isak on Friday from Liverpool, who recently beat them to the signing of Frankfurt frontman Hugo Ekitike. 'I think from my situation, I am very much removed from everything that is happening back home,' Newcastle boss Howe said on Isak. 'I was made aware that there was a bid yesterday. That bid was turned down all before I even heard about it, so I think there's people back in England dealing with the situation. 'I really don't know what's going to happen next, but from our perspective we still support Alex in every way, and my wish is still that we see him in a Newcastle shirt again.' Isak did not travel to Asia for Newcastle's pre-season tour due to what the club called a 'minor thigh injury', only for talk of his unhappiness to emerge. Howe admitted 'you don't know what's going to happen from this point' and, surprisingly, that he found out that the 25-year-old was training with former club Real Sociedad through the media. 'I know where he is, really, through the media, so I think from that perspective it's difficult for me to go into any kind of detail,' the Newcastle boss said. The manager said 'he can't talk about individual targets' in the wake of reports in the striker's homeland overnight claiming that the 22-year-old wants to move to St James' Park rather than Old Trafford. Newcastle have now reportedly made a 75m euros (£65.4m) bid to Leipzig, with a further 5m euros (£4.3m) in potential add-ons. Howe said: 'We are looking for the best players that we can get. Whatever our target position is, we're looking for the best, so I see all situations open and available to us.
