Jackie Shroff's Wife Ayesha Left Riches To Live In Chawl With Him: 'Queued In Line For Washroom'

Ayesha's father, Ranjan Dutt, was a Vir Chakra-awarded Air Vice Marshal and later the head of HAL. Jackie Shroff said, as quoted by SCREEN, 'It was love at first sight with Ayesha, she was travelling in a bus and I was on a bike driving behind that bus. It was my friend's bike, and I was going to his building because it had a pool table. I saw her on the bus. She was hanging by the holding handle and was holding a flag. She was coming from a march past. She was 14-15 at that time and I said to myself, 'This is the lady I shall marry.'" Jackie met Ayesha for the first time after she got off the bus. He introduced himself, and they had a conversation that lasted a while. Two days later, Ayesha's friend approached Jackie and mentioned that Ayesha thought he should pursue a career in acting. Her friend even recommended that he audition for a film by OP Ralhan. He said, 'Role nahi mila but we fell in love (I didn't get the role but I fell in love with Ayesha)." Jackie Shroff and Ayesha tied the knot in 1987. Jackie Shroff was a struggling actor living in a chawl. He recalled, 'My house was running in Rs 30 when I was living in a chawl. Nobody expected anything from me. My wife stayed in one room with me at the chawl, she queued in line to go to the washroom. I lived 33 years at the chawl." The actor mentioned that his wife came from a wealthy family. Her father, Ranjan Dutt, was a Vir Chakra-awarded Air Vice Marshal and later the head of HAL (Hindustan Aeronautics Limited). However, Ayesha left her riches to be with Jackie and even supported him financially. 'My wife sold her house to get me a house. She took care of me," he said. Interestingly, Ayesha's father also had no objections. 'No, he didn't object, he must have seen my intention. He must have thought that I am a horse for the long race. I know I wasn't how a young lad should have been, but maybe they trusted me and I haven't let their trust down," the veteran actor said. First Published: July 07, 2025, 14:08 IST

Prosenjit Chatterjee calls himself, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn ‘producer-friendly actors': ‘We have seen the hard times'

Bengali superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee, fondly called Bumba Da by many, has taken on the producer's role for a Hindi show. His maiden production on Star Plus is called Kabhi Kabhi Neem Neem Kabhi Shehad Shehad. In a recent conversation with SCREEN, Prosenjit shared how his experience as an actor has deepened his understanding of a producer's role. He also expressed gratitude for being fondly called 'Bumba Da,' calling it a blessing. Talking about how West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee also refers to him as 'Bumba Da,' Prosenjit shared, 'You see the best part is not just in West Bengal, on all the sets when I was doing Jubilee and Khakee, after a certain time, everybody calls me Bumba Da. Even in Mumbai, Manoj, Rajkummar, they all call me Bumba Da. In West Bengal, nobody calls me Prosenjit, even our honorable Chief Minister, Mamta Banerjee, in official meetings also addresses me as Bumba. That's a blessing for me, I didn't change my name, my audience and fans over three generations made me Bumba Da, and I don't mind.' Also Read: Prosenjit Chatterjee believes Neeraj Pandey's Khakee: The Bengal Chapter will get Bengali cinema global exposure: 'Been fighting for this industry for 35-40 years' During the interview, Prosenjit Chatterjee also talked about how his experience as an actor helped him better understand the nuances of production. Prosenjit said, 'I have been doing this for the last 40 years, so I understand the role of a producer better. When we started our careers, whether in Bangla or Hindi, the economy was not the same. Not just me, but even Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn – when they started entire economy was very different, and as an actor, you need to understand the psyche of the producer. You need to understand the good and bad of the production; otherwise, you are not a producer-friendly actor. We always thought that the producer has to benefit; they should get money, only then will they come to produce the other two films.' 'That is the way we have grown. I completely understand production, and people in Kolkata say that I am the finest planner for shoots. If I hear a script, within 24 hours, I give them a breakdown on what they should do. We have seen the hard times, so we don't waste. I had produced a show for Star Jalsa, and it was directed by Rituporno Ghosh. Nobody else could bring a Rituporno Ghosh to direct a TV show. To date, it's a cult show that happened in Bengal. So, I always try to do something that I like creatively,' he added. On a parting note, Prosenjit Chatterjee said, 'I always say, I am not a producer. I want to remain an actor, I am born to act, and I want to do so till my last breath. As a student of cinema, I have been doing lots of shows and films, mostly with newcomers. That's the way I want to produce. When I act, I try to do so for other producers. It's my psychology that till I don't sign a film, I cannot value myself. That's a habit I don't want to change.' Uorfi Javed says Apoorva Mukhija's fans sent her abusive DMs after their fight on The Traitors: ‘I shouldn't have spoken the way I did'

Reality show star Uorfi Javed won Karan Johar-hosted The Traitors. Soon after she was announced as the show's winner along with Nikita Luther, Uorfi became a victim of online abuse and trolling. Many social media users argued that fellow contestants Apoorva Mukhija and Purva Jha were more deserving of the title. Some criticised Uorfi for allegedly eavesdropping on a conversation between Purav and Harsh Gujral, which led to their eviction from the game. She was also slammed for 'backstabbing' Apoorva close to the finale. In a recent conversation with SCREEN, Uorfi reflected on their conflict and admitted she could have handled the situation better. Talking about their fight on the show, Uorfi said, 'Usually, fights are bound to happen on the show. I cannot dwell on them. I don't hate anyone, have no ill feelings towards anyone. They are all kids and have said something. They will laugh at it two years later, even I have done it. I am very impulsive.' Also Read: Uorfi Javed says she is receiving death and rape threats after winning The Traitors: 'People have always doubted me' Uorfi Javed further shared that disrespect has become a major trigger for her, and when Apoorva Mukhija spoke to her in that manner, it set her off. She said, 'I had a fight with Apoorva over respect. It is an insecurity I have. For so many years, I have been abused and disrespected so much that it has now made me insecure. Due to this, I cross certain lines and say things I cannot take back. I am completely at fault. During the fight with Apoorva, I could have handled the situation better. I shouldn't have spoken the way I did. I over-reacted. I just felt how dare she talk to me like that?' Discussing if they tried to mend the bridge at any point on the show, Uorfi said, 'We are two very different people, our personalities don't match. So we can't stay friends. I don't have anything against anyone, and I have no hatred for her. I didn't say anything on social media, but she went on to say a lot of things. When she said I am a pathetic human being and I was eyeing Harsh, I felt very hurt. I just wondered how anyone can get so dirty. She has a massive audience of youngsters, and everyone started abusing me. I have received so many abusive DMs because of her. I was in a very weird space. But later I realized that it was not worth it, it just affected me at that time. I need to work on my impulsive nature, though.' After winning The Traitors, Uorfi Javed shared the prize pot of Rs 70 lakhs with Nikita Luther. She is yet to announce her next project.
