
Glasgow student crowned winner at UK baking competition
Held from July 8 to 10 at British Bakels' Liverpool site, home of the Renshaw brand, the competition returned this year after a 21-year break.
Mr Howie said: "It's such an honour to represent Glasgow at the Renshaw Cup and being the only Scottish student at the event made winning even more special."
The three-day event included technical challenges, expert-led tutorials, and a factory tour to give finalists real-world experience in a commercial baking environment.
James Cawthorne, managing director at British Bakels, said: "Renshaw has been part of British baking for over a century, and we were thrilled to bring back this iconic event to support young talent.
"The event was a true celebration of young talent in the industry, and it was great to see the energy and dedication of all the students.
"Jamie was a deserving winner of the champion title, his final bake displayed true craft and style."
The Renshaw Cup was first launched in 1952 and has helped launch many professional careers in the baking industry.
Past winners include Steve Fulford, now British Bakels' lead technical manager, and Suzanne Thorpe, founder of The Frostery.
The competition reflects Renshaw's commitment to supporting the next generation of baking talent in the UK.

Liverpool are still interested in signing Alexander Isak from Newcastle but have seen a £120m offer rejected by the Magpies, with the player's future uncertain after training alone in Spain Newcastle 's wantaway star Alexander Isak is set to return to the club's training ground amid Liverpool 's bid to sign the Sweden striker, reports claim. Isak has been training alone at the training facilities of old club Real Sociedad after informing Newcastle he wants to consider he options this summer. The 25-year-old has not joined Newcastle on their pre-season tour of Asia amid the uncertainty around his future, with manager Eddie Howe admitting the situation was not in his control. Liverpool have already had a £120m bid rejected by Newcastle, who value the player at closer to £150m and are in no rush to sell him given that he has three years left on his contract at St James' Park. According to the Athletic, Isak is now set to travel back to the UK after a brief period of training at Sociedad's Zubieta base, which he has been using when they are empty rather than training alongside his former team-mates. He will not be linking up with the rest of his Newcastle team-mates and Howe and Co prepare for a friendly clash against Tottenham on Sunday, before two more friendlies against Espanyol and Atletico Madrid. The report claims Liverpool are not planning to submit a second offer for Isak after their initial "take it or leave it" bid, but remain interested in the player. The Reds have already spent nearly £300m on a host of high-profile signings, including £116.5m on Florian Wirtz - which was a British transfer record - £79m on forward Hugo Ekitike, £50m on left-back Milos Kerkez and £29m on right-back Jeremie Frimpong. Adding Isak to their squad would force them to smash another transfer record but as things stand the move looks to be difficult to pull off. Liverpool have managed to balance the books by selling Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid for £10m and Luis Diaz to Bayern for £63m, while Darwin Nunez is reportedly in talks to join Al-Hilal. Newcastle boss Howe said he was in the dark over Isak's future but was hopeful the club could still hang onto their talisman. 'I really don't know what is going to happen next, but from our perspective, we still support Alex in every way, and my wish is still that we see him in a Newcastle shirt again,' he said. I tried Clydebank's new Bangin' Pizza hotspot
Friday night, the beginning of many workers' weekend and what a way to kick start the two-day break than trying Clydebank's newest hot-spot for grub. Bangin' Pizza has just opened on the town's Kilbowie Road, and it was jumping. The third member of its franchise, the brand already has successful shops in Johnstone and Dumbarton, delighting customers with its unique mix of music and pizza. By the time I was being served my pizzas, there was a line of five or six out of the door. It was clear bankies knew the hype surrounding this new spot. I placed my order of two pizzas, one plain La Marinara and a recommendation of the Highlander (the most expensive on the menu). Topped off with a portion of the Bangin' Fries. My total was £28. The scran. (Image: Supplied) I was buzzing to get tucked in, but a half-hour wait is what comes with a busy Friday and a newly opened, in-demand commodity. An introductory menu is in place for the soft launch of the new venue, offering five pizza choices and four sides. I've been fortunate enough to have visited Naples, the home of the beloved doughy creation, only recently, so I was ready to set this Scottish-Italian twist against the homeland. First off the La Marinara Pizza is priced at a decent £9.50. A simple, but delicious tribute to the heart of Italian food. The thin base was the perfect homage to the country's pizza, with a hearty dough, packed with flavour and piping hot. The tomato-based sauce was sweet on the tongue, dusted with some oregano to give it an extra kick; it was everything an Italian would want from a pizza. Classic, original and punching with flavour. Along with the generous pricing, this thoroughly deserved a 10/10. (Image: Newsquest) It was denser than the first pizza, but it was for a reason. The toppings were plentiful, evenly spread and generously given. The black pudding was the cherry on the cake, absolutely beautiful. Although i favoured the first, my friend who grabbed a bit of this one was delighted. I'd give it a strong 9/10. They were perfectly seasoned, not too salty, just the right amount. A strong start for the sides, I rate this a 8/10. These pizzas were a true testament to some of the delish bites I sampled in Naples, they were delicious and hearty food that I will easily be finding myself going back for. Despite a newly opened shop and a packed queue of customers, there was no compromise of taste, presentation or service. It was clear the restaurant is looking for authentic, heartfelt food whilst bringing in their music background with plenty of tunes whilst you wait. In my opinion, it was in fact ,Bangin'.

Chef demonstrations and event space Lannan Pantry's interior has been designed in collaboration with Patricia Rodi and Natalie Cécile of Rodi and Cécile Studios and takes inspiration from owner Darcie Maher's travels in France. It will feature bespoke joinery and reclaimed French floor tiles, with a large farmhouse table providing a centrepiece to the room and showcasing the produce on offer.
