Algeciras port workers announce strike during Marhaba 2025 Operation
The strike, involving both fleet and radio operators, will take place daily in three time slots: from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m., 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The decision follows the breakdown of negotiations aimed at improving working conditions.
According to Spanish media reports, workers are demanding a reduced workload, adequate rest periods, additional staff, and an annual salary increase of 6.5% between 2025 and 2028 to offset rising living costs.
The Port Workers Union, backing the strike committee, stated that all avenues for dialogue had been exhausted and criticized the company's unwillingness to engage on proposals related to work schedules and shift organization. The union also denounced the disparity in contract terms, while a four-year agreement was signed with radio operators, fleet workers were only offered a one-year deal, increasing their job insecurity.
Authorities have been formally notified of the planned strike, and mediation has been requested from the Andalusian Labor Dispute Resolution Service (Sercla).

Mechanical tourism booms in Tangier as Spaniards seek affordable car repairs
Mechanical tourism is firmly establishing itself in Morocco. Each summer, hundreds of Spaniards make the journey across the Strait of Gibraltar... to have their cars repaired. Tangier has almost inadvertently become North Africa's go-to destination for affordable auto repairs. It often begins with a repair quote considered «exorbitant» in Spain. Take Marcos, a resident of Madrid, who owns a 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser. He was facing a staggering 4,000-euro bill for a complete transmission overhaul and turbocharger replacement. A quick search online led him to a car forum recommending Tangier. He followed the advice: for under 1,000 euros, including parts, his vehicle was good as new in just a few days. According to Spanish outlet El Confidencial Digital, labor costs in Morocco are around 2 euros per hour. In Spain, they can be a hundred times higher. Even a full paint job costs 500 euros, a price that would only cover a single panel in Madrid or Seville. The savings extend further: a round-trip ferry from Tarifa to Tangier is less than 200 euros. Some even plan their vacations around a visit to the mechanic. What started as a makeshift solution is becoming a regular practice for thousands of Spaniards. Moroccan garages are building a reputation, particularly those that use new parts directly supplied by manufacturers. However, the rapid growth of this parallel industry isn't without its downsides. Illegal workshops are emerging, especially near Ceuta and Melilla. Some offer last-minute fixes before technical inspections, often without official approval. The Spanish newspaper highlights «spare parts of dubious origin, including those stolen in Spain», though such instances are said to be «infrequent». Additionally, cross-border auto repairs raise environmental concerns. Morocco's more lenient waste management regulations allow for cost savings but pose significant ecological risks.

Barcelona Break Record with Lamine Yamal's New No.10
Barcelona have recorded unprecedented shirt sales following Lamine Yamal's promotion to the iconic No.10 jersey. In just 48 hours, nearly 70,000 shirts were sold worldwide, generating an estimated €10 million in revenue. It is the highest-selling shirt in the club's history, according to figures from official stores. The kids' version costs €114.99, while the adult shirt is priced at €134.99. A pro version, identical to the one worn by Yamal himself, is sold for €184.99. One store employee described the demand as 'absolute madness,' citing over 400 units sold at a single outlet within two days. Yamal, who recently turned 18 with a controversial birthday party, has signed a new contract running until 2031 – with a reported salary of €20 million per season. The club is positioning him as the face of its future, both on and off the pitch. Barcelona sees the Spanish international as the successor to Lionel Messi, not only in shirt number but also in global appeal. His shirt has already reached 170 countries. The decision to entrust Lamine Yamal, who used to wear No. 19, with the No. 10 jersey is a profound statement of FC Barcelona's belief in the young winger. This number is synonymous with footballing Barça legends such as Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, and Diego Maradona. Tags: FC Barcelonalamine yamal
