New On Netflix, Disney+, And More: 7 Streaming Shows And Movies To Watch This Week (May 19-25)
The end of May is a bit of a different animal on streaming platforms. It seems like every week in recent memory, we've seen the beginning of some sort of high-profile dramatic series on one streaming platform or another. And while some of those shows are still ongoing, most notably Peacock's Poker Face, there's a bit less 'new' in that regard this week.
That's not to say there isn't some absolutely great stuff you won't want to miss. It's just a fairly eclectic list, and while it's unlikely you'll be interested in everything debuting this week, there's almost certain to be at least one thing to check out.
Travel shows aren't everybody's cup of tea, but rarely have we seen one that's hosted by somebody as engaging as the great Stanley Tucci. The NatGeo documentary series, also available with a Disney+ subscription, Tucci in Italy, a follow-up to his previous Searching For Italy series, sees the actor explore the nation via its food. Get ready to be very hungry.
Brett Favre was once one of the biggest stars in the world of professional football, but as the title suggests, The Fall of Brett Favre will be looking at a different side of the athlete, including alleged off-the-field misdeeds, including a reported mishandling of government money for his own benefit.
The first season of Nine Perfect Strangers only got middle-of-the-road reviews, but it clearly did something right as it's back for a second season. A new star-studded cast and a new location form around Nicole Kidman as a guru with some unorthodox methods to help people heal.
Late May is prime summer movie season, and while that usually means having to go to a theater, one new film that seems just perfect for this time of year will only be available with an Apple TV+ subscription. Fountain of Youth stars John Krasinski and Natalie Portman as siblings searching for the fabled source of eternal youth. Guy Ritchie directed what feels like the closest thing to National Treasure 3 we're likely to get.
It's a good idea in general for horror fans to have a Netflix subscription, and that's especially the case this week. R.L. Stine's Fear Street books have been turned into films three times previously, and each time with solid results. Now, get ready for the fourth installment, Prom Queen.
A generation grew up with Pee-wee Herman, but the actor and comedian's untimely death robbed fans of years of fun. A new two-part documentary series, Pee-wee as Himself, available with a Max subscription, will take fans inside the head of Pee-Wee Herman, quite literally, as it will include significant interviews with Paul Reubens made before he passed away.
Pamela Anderson was one of the hottest stars of the 1990s, but she came roaring back to the screens last year in The Last Showgirl. Anderson won numerous awards for her portrayal of an aging showgirl, showing just what a great actress she's always been. You can now check out her performance with a Hulu subscription.

It's already her third movie in less than a year, but Sofia Carson is just as enthusiastic as ever. 'It's going on 10 years of me doing this, which is unbelievable,' Carson says, from the lobby of the New York Edition Hotel. 'And it always feels like the very first time in the best way. In that time she met with Marty Bowen of Temple Hill, the producer behind the 'Twilight' movies and 'The Fault in Our Stars,' who presented her with the script for 'My Oxford Year.' 'It's just so beautiful and so powerful, and it also felt like a classic, and that's something I've always gravitated towards in my career,' she says of the movie. 'I loved the idea of being able to bring to life a classic love story.' 'My Oxford Year' sees Carson as an ambitious American grad student, Anna, who travels to Oxford University for a year-long program, where she meets a charming teaching assistant named Jamie (Corey Mylchreest), who has more to his story than he initially lets on. 'This is probably the truest love story that I've told,' Carson says. 'I was very drawn to Anna's character. She lives life in her understanding of living deliberately, which is planning every second of life, which is very much how I've lived my life. In falling in love with Jamie and losing him, I think she learns one of the greatest lessons that any of us can learn. And that is that life is lived in moments and that all we have is a succession of moments, and living deliberately doesn't mean planning every moment, but living them and living in the messiness of them. And it felt like such a necessary reminder for me and for anyone that watches this film.' Carson's ability to produce a hitmaker became clear to Netflix after her second film for them, last year's 'Carry On,' became their second most-watched film of all time. 'I think that's when it really clicked for everyone, that we have something special going on here. This partnership is really resonating with people in a really unbelievable way,' Carson says. As for where she goes from here? 'It has been an interesting few months navigating the question of what is next and personally navigating the pressures that I feel,' Carson says. 'Of course, it's an extraordinarily beautiful place to be in, to come off of so many successes, but it definitely puts a certain amount of pressure on me. But it's that reminder of not ever changing what my decision-making factor is, which is 'this project aligned with who I am? Am I proud of the art that I'm making?' And if the answer is 'yes,' then that's what I want to put out into the world.' In that vein, she's been back working on music, her first love, and is in development on multiple upcoming projects both as an actor and a producer. 'I was very lucky in that I don't remember a moment in my life when I didn't know that I wanted to do this for the rest of my life,' Carson says. 'It started with music and storytelling through music, but in my mind [acting and music] are so deeply connected because when you see videos of me when I was 3 and I was singing 'Evita,' I was performing that song and I was telling that story. So it just always was who I was rather than what I did.' Early reception for The Fantastic Four: First Steps was positive, and it should be interesting to see how the general public responds to the latest Marvel blockbuster. While recent movies like Thunderbolts* and Deadpool & Wolverine were received well, others like Captain America: Brave New World failed to resonate with audiences. It seems like the Fantastic Four are going to have a big role in the future of the MCU, so the pressure is on. The Thunderbolts* credit scene teased their arrival, and it's been reported that Pedro Pascal's Reed Richards might lead the Avengers in Doomsday and Secret Wars. The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters on July 25th as part of the 2025 movie release list, and the team will return in Avengers: Doomsday December 18th, 2026. We'll have to see if the magic of the multiverse allows Chiklis to reprise his role as The Thing sometime in the future.
