Her best times in those two events would have been good for fourth place last year in the Paris Olympics. World Aquatics, the governing body of world swimming, has an age limit of 14. However, swimmers are allowed to compete if they are younger if their times surpass a qualifying standard. Yu wore a black cap and a gray suit and did not speak after the race.

Pakistan PM takes notice of ‘unjustified delay' of cash reward, support for boxer Shahzaib Rind
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's Information Minister Attaullah Tarar this week apologized to Karate champion Shahzaib Rind for the 'unjustified delay' of a monetary reward and financial support the fighter said the government had promised to provide him, sharing that the prime minister has taken 'serious notice' of the incident. Rind made history in September last year when he won the World Karate Combat Light Heavyweight Championship, beating Brazil's Luiz Victor Rocha in the final in Singapore. The remarkable feat made him the first person from Pakistan to win the world title. Following his achievement, Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari presented Rind a cheque of Rs100 million [$352,600] while as per reports, former federal minister Sardar Yaar Muhammad Rind announced he would give Rind 25 acres of land. Rind took to social media platform X on July 23, saying that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif promised him a sum of Rs5 million [$17,630] and Rs80 million [$282,080] to support his training camp and upcoming fights. However, the Pakistani fighter said it was 'all a lie, I never got a penny from them.' 'Dear Shahzeb, there seems to be some miscommunication,' Tarar wrote to Rind on X on Saturday. 'We sincerely apologize for this unjustified delay, sportsmen like you are our real heroes and we value your achievements.' The minister acknowledged that Rind had brought honor to the country and made everyone proud through his achievements. 'The Prime Minister has taken serious notice of this inordinate delay and rest assured, it will be sorted out immediately, inshallah [god willing],' Tarar added. He said Sharif had instructed authorities that such mistakes must never happen again. 'We regret this unjustified delay and the inconvenience caused,' he added. America team at world swimming battles case of 'acute gastroenteritis' that damages performance
The United States team at the swimming world championships in Singapore is battling a case of acute gastroenteritis that compromised performances on Sunday, the opening day of eight days of competition in the pool. Nikki Warner, the spokeswoman for USA Swimming, confirmed the outbreak to The Associated Press and said it had its roots at a training camp the American team held in Phuket, Thailand, before arriving in Singapore. Defending Olympic 100-meter butterfly champion Huske was withdrawn from preliminary heats of her event on Sunday. The team initially said she was pulled to focus on relay events. American 16-year-old Mijatovic swam the prelims of the 400 freestyle. His time of 3:59.68 was almost 15 seconds off his entry time, and it was clear he was under duress as he swam. Weinstein, a promising 18 year old, was also pulled from the 400 freestyle. Katie Ledecky, the most famous swimmer on the American team, performed normally in her preliminary session on Sunday and did not appear to be affected. The United States swim team is trying to rebound from a difficult time a year ago at the Paris Olympics. The Americans won only eight gold medals, their lowest total since the 1988 Seoul Olympics. That relatively low total still topped the medal table, followed by Australia. The men won only one gold medal in Paris, and that group is hoping to rebound in Singapore with a very young men's team. Head coach Greg Meehan said it's the youngest in memory.

Summer McIntosh starts her quest for five gold medals at the swim world championships
Summer McIntosh of Canada began her quest for five gold medals in the swimming world championships on Sunday's opening day in Singapore. Her first medal race is the 400-meter freestyle. McIntosh who won three gold medals a year ago at the Paris Olympics holds the world record in the 400 free – 3 minutes 54.18 seconds – and is the favorite in the race Sunday alongside American Katie Ledecky. Ledecky has the year's second-best time of 3:56.81. She will face McIntosh again in the 800 free later in the meet. Though she holds the 400 free world record McIntosh has failed to win gold in the event in the Olympics or previous world championships. McIntosh will also be after gold in the worlds in the 200- and 400-individual medleys and the 200 butterfly. Famed Olympian Michael Phelps is the only swimmer to have won five individual gold medals at a world championships. The men's 400 free final is also on Sunday's schedule. Lukas Martens of Germany is the favorite. He set the world record earlier this year of 3:39.96. That topped Paul Biedermann's record which had been on the books since 2009 in the super-suit era. The other two gold-medal events on Sunday are the men's and women's 4x100 freestyle relays.
