Ibrahima Konate gatecrashes Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz with brutal reminder
Ibrahima Konate cheekily reminded Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz about Liverpool's ruthless victory over Bayer Leverkusen last season. Frimpong, 24, was the first to join the Reds this summer, arriving for £29.5million from Leverkusen.
His transfer was followed by Wirtz, whose £116m move broke the Premier League transfer record. They have since been joined by Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike, the latter who cost £79m.
Frimpong and Wirtz were asked about their previous experiences together during a recent shoot with the club's social media team. During filming, Konate popped in to hand over bottles of water.
On his way out, the Frenchman could not resist having a cheeky jibe at the duo, reminding them of the Reds' 4-0 victory over them in the Champions League when they were at Leverkusen.
On Liverpool's official YouTube channel, Konate asked Frimpong: "Did they ask you, 'How was the 4-0 at Anfield?'" Frimpong shot back: "My friend. Keep going, keep going bro. I scored eh?"
Konate, taken aback, responded: "You what?" After Frimpong reiterated his claim, the centre-back recalled the scoreline, momentarily forgetting that the Dutchman did score a goal, only for it to be chalked off for offside.
Though it didn't stand, it clearly gave Frimpong a sense of personal triumph. In their clash at Anfield last term, Slot's side put on a clinical display in the second half to dismantle the then German champions.
On paper, their clash was a game between two of Europe's best and most in form sides, that would be played on a knife edge. An even first half was followed by a deadly second 45 minutes from the Reds.
Luis Diaz netted a flawless hat-trick and Cody Gakpo also found the net, as Liverpool swiftly took control of the match from then-manager Xabi Alonso – who has since moved to Real Madrid – on his return to Anfield. Of course, Konate was only joking with the duo when he brought up the result.
Wirtz, Konate and Frimpong all featured in Liverpool's recent pre-season defeat to AC Milan. Frimpong stood out with his bold attacking instincts and lightning speed down the right wing.
Wirtz also played as a false nine, demonstrating his elegant movement and skill in tight spaces. Despite this, Milan triumphed over the Reds 4-2, with goals from Rafael Leao, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and a double from Noah Okafor enough to beat Slot's team, while Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo scored for Liverpool.
Reds supporters are eagerly awaiting Sunday, August 10, when Liverpool's season kicks off with a Community Shield match against Crystal Palace. Their Premier League campaign begins with a home game against Bournemouth on Friday, August 15, followed by an away game at St James' Park against Newcastle United.
The latter match could be particularly heated, as the Reds are still actively pursuing Newcastle's star player Alexander Isak. The Magpies were recently dealt a blow by the Swede, who expressed his desire to explore a move away from the club.

Gary Neville names the next signing Manchester United must make
Gary Neville had been encouraged by Manchester United's work in the transfer market this summer but believes there is one obvious position that needs strengthening. After last season's calamitous campaign, United have been measured with their approach during the summer as Ruben Amorim embarks on the next step of his rebuilding job. Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have already arrived and will bring creativity and goal threat, not to mention a wealth of Premier League experience, to a forward line that struggled last term. Teenager Diego Leon will give Amorim another option in defence but the Red Devils' boss is hopeful of making further additions before his side kick-off against Arsenal on August 17. And Neville believes United should be focusing their attention of finding a replacement for Andre Onana, who has failed to convince since his £47million move from Inter two years ago. The Cameroon international was brought in to succeed David de Gea but he turned out to be one of the biggest transfer mistakes of the Erik ten Hag era and fared little better under Amorim. Onana was linked with moved to Monaco and the Saudi Pro League earlier this month but looks set to start against the Gunners, almost by default, assuming he recovers from a hamstring injury. United have reportedly shown interest in the likes of Emiliano Martinez and Nick Pope, whose place at Newcastle will be threatened by imminent new signing Aaron Ramsdale, and Neville has urged his old club to resolve the uncertainty around the goalkeeping situation quickly. 'Yeah, that could be a bigger challenge than the economy… I think the two signings are good signings yet, there's a couple more needed,' Neville said of his former club's fortunes. 'I think they need a goalkeeper. And I think if they fill those two positions with decent signings, then United can have a lot, I mean, they have to have a better season than last year. It can't get any worse, really.' Another goalkeeping target, Senne Lammens, meanwhile, has lauded the Red Devils as 'one of the best clubs' in the world and expressed his belief he would be able to make the step up. 'Manchester United are one of the best clubs, yes,' the 23-year-old Lammens said, as per Gazet van Antwerpen. 'But you never know. It could also be a different club, or who knows, I might stay here. In any case, I try to keep my feet on the ground. When teams like that come along, I think you've earned it. More Trending 'I certainly have enough confidence in myself. I think the most important thing is that my future team, whenever they arrive, has a plan in place. 'Ideally, that means playing immediately, but it's also possible I'll have to take a step in between. 'As long as there's a plan, it doesn't matter whether I'm ready for the next step or not. Everyone has their own career, their own path. Even if I don't take the right step right away, I'll get there. 'It could be within a few days, but also a few months or a year. I have people around me who help me with that, and that way I can focus on what I need to do.' Man Utd star Joshua Zirkzee reacts to Benjamin Sesko and Ollie Watkins rumours
Joshua Zirkzee says he is 'not worried' and welcomes the prospect of added competition at Manchester United as the club look to bring in a new striker this summer. The Red Devils have bolstered their attack with the addition of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in the transfer market, with the duo arriving at the Theatre of Dreams for a combined fee of around £125million. But United are determined to further strengthen by signing an out-and-out centre-forward capable of scoring the goals Ruben Amorim's side so badly lacked last season, when the club finished with their worst-ever Premier League points tally. Viktor Gyokeres had been identified as United's number one target on the back of another exceptional campaign in Portuguese football with Sporting, in which he scored 54 goals in 52 games. But United were forced to concede defeat as Arsenal struck a deal to sign the prolific Swede and Old Trafford bosses have reportedly whittled down their shortlist to just two names: RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko and Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. It's understood Leipzig could be prepared to do business for Sesko should they receive an offer of around £70m, while Watkins, the far cheaper option, is said to be available for between £40m-£45m. The ongoing search for a striker raises serious questions over the future of both Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund, who managed just seven goals between them last term. But Zirkzee insists the addition of more quality up front can only be healthy for United's prospects ahead of the new campaign, with Amorim's men looking to drastically improve on their wretched showing last term. 'I think it's part of being at this club,' the Dutchman said. 'To be honest, I don't read the news but if another striker were to come I guess it's only good competition so I'm not really worried. 'Everything is for the team, there's no selfishness here, that's not my mantra. If it were to help the team then great.' Zirkzee admits there is major room for improvement in his game when it comes to finding the back of the net, but simply winning more games be the priority for United next season. 'I don't think I've shown my best form,' he added. 'I think I was on my way towards it [before his injury], but I think there's improvement every day for all of us. '[Amorim] wants goals so that's what I have to work on. That's what it all comes down to. 'I'm a different profile but in the end if you're up top you're supposed to score goals, I'm not going to take that fact away. But the most important thing is that we win so if Bruno scores 60 goals and we win all the games that's fine. More Trending Zirkzee is currently with Amorim's squad on the club's pre-season tour of the United States, but missed the side's 2-1 defeat of West Ham due to a 'small injury'. The Netherlands forward reassured fans that he was working his way back to full fitness, though, with the hamstring problem not thought to be serious. He explained: 'I've got a small injury, but it shouldn't take too long to recover now,' he said. 'I've got great physios working with me every day. It's a small injury, not a serious problem.' Arsenal and Liverpool urged to take 'punt' on Bournemouth's attacking midfielder
Arsenal and Liverpool have been urged to sign AFC Bournemouth attacking midfielder Justin Kluivert in the summer transfer window. Kluivert shined for the south coast club in the Premier League last season, producing 12 goals and six assists in 34 top-flight games for the Cherries. Bournemouth are reported to have placed a €50m-€55m (£43m-£47m) price tag on the 26-year-old star, who can also be deployed as a winger and has previously played for Ajax and Roma. Rene Meulensteen, a former first-team coach at Manchester United, is convinced his Dutch compatriot would 'thrive' at Arsenal or Liverpool. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link we'll send you so we can get football news tailored to you. 'I'm surprised that Justin Kluivert hasn't had a huge transfer,' Meulensteen told Grosvenor Casino about the Netherlands international, who is the son of Patrick Kluivert and under contract at Bournemouth until June 2028. 'I wondered if Arne Slot would have a punt on him because he is versatile, he is quick and has developed really well. 'He has come so far and is very effective, I could see him thriving at Arsenal or Liverpool. 'Maybe not with Manchester United, they already have Matheus Cunha and Bruno Fernandes, but I think Kluivert has done really well.' Kluivert has established himself as a key player for Bournemouth, helping them to an impressive ninth-placed Premier League finish last season. That marked Bournemouth's joint-highest league finish in the club's 126-year history, only matched by Eddie Howe's Cherries in 2016-17. After a successful season, Andoni Iraola's side have already lost two of their most important stars – Dean Huijsen and Milos Kerkez. Huijsen joined Real Madrid while Kerkez moved to Liverpool – and the Cherries are fighting to keep hold of a number of their other players. More Trending Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain are hoping to complete a move for Illia Zabarnyi and there had been huge speculation over Antoine Semenyo before he signed a new deal to remain at the Vitality Stadium. Bournemouth have, however, strengthened their squad this summer by signing Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic for £25m. The Cherries have also recruited Rennes left-back Adrien Truffert as a replacement for Kerkez. Bournemouth, traditionally one of the Premier League's smallest clubs in terms of size and honours, are soon set for a new era after announcing plans to expand their stadium from 11,286 seats to 20,196 seats.
