The 46-year-old Pacquiao was held by Barrios as the American retained the title following a majority draw decision.
Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao produced a valiant fight against WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios on Sunday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas.
The 46-year-old Pacquiao was held by Barrios as the American retained the title following a majority draw decision.
'I thought I won the fight. I mean, it was a close fight. My opponent was very tough. But it was a wonderful fight," Pacquiao said at the conclusion of the bout.
'I was trying to find a way to finish the fight but my opponent was so tough," he revealed.
He threw punches in combination and with defense, so it was hard," the Filipino pugilist added.
'I thought I pulled it out," Barrios said.
'But I still tip my hat to Manny. It was an honor to share the ring with him, somebody with so much experience who has accomplished so much in this sport. We left everything in the ring, nothing but love and respect," the American added.
Barrios went on to commend Pacquio's ability despite his advanced age.
'That's crazy — his stamina, he can still crack and he's still strong as hell. His timing, his rhythm, everything. He was still a very awkward fighter to figure out," the champion said.
'I knew I had to step it up to try to and solidify a win," he continued.
'I was really pressing him, trying to make him feel old. But he has some good legs — a lot of the tank and a lot of fight left in him," Barrios added.
Pacman, as he is fondly known, stated that he would like to continue his career following his return to the ring, and serve as an example for his countrymen.
'That's the only legacy that I can leave behind — to give inspiration to the Filipino people and to be proud wherever you are."

Liverpool Hit Five Past Stoke Behind Closed-Doors As Darwin Nunez NetsTreble

Last Updated: Nunez struck three times inside the opening 20 minutes of the contest, while Rio Ngumoha and Federico Chiesa added a goal each on either side of half-time to pick up a 5-0 triumph. Premier League champions Liverpool registered a 5-0 victory over Stoke City in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Sunday at the AXA Training Centre. Darwin Nunez turned out to be the star on the day as the Uruguayan netted three times inside the opening 20 minutes of the contest with the Championship outfit, while Rio Ngumoha and Federico Chiesa added their names to the scoresheet on either side of half-time. The victory was the Reds' second in as many games before jetting off to Asia for their pre-season tour. Nunez initiated the scoring in the sixth minute with an instinctive follow-up strike after Florian Wirtz's attempted through-ball for Dominik Szoboszlai was only partially cleared. He found the net again six minutes later, finishing off Szoboszlai's low cross from the right at the end of a well-orchestrated move. Nunez completed his hat-trick within 14 minutes of the first half by nudging home Curtis Jones' delivery inside the box. The hosts extended their lead to four midway through the first half when Ngumoha received the ball in the area, cut inside, and watched his deflected shot loop into the net. Closer to the break, Jones, who had surged forward to meet Andy Robertson's pass from the left flank, was unable to add a fifth, side-footing straight at goalkeeper Viktor Johansson. Liverpool fielded an entirely different outfield team for the second half. Early on, Ben Doak was frustrated by the post, having pounced on the rebound from a Chiesa shot that had been parried. Cody Gakpo, Chiesa, and Doak tested goalkeeper Jack Bonham in quick succession, before Armin Pecsi was called into action at the other end to keep out Tatsuki Seko's header. Wataru Endo narrowly missed the target with his headed effort from a Gakpo corner, and Luca Stephenson fired over from Jeremie Frimpong's cut-back. The Reds finally scored their fifth goal two minutes before the end of the 90 minutes. Gakpo was found at the back post by Frimpong and unselfishly squared the ball to Chiesa for a simple finish. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. On this day in 2014: India pulled off their first Test win at Lord's since 1986

India successfully defended the target of 319 on a challenging Lord's track that offered seamers significant seam movement up front and uneven bounce as the strip dried later on. India ended a painstaking 28-year-long wait for a Test victory at Lord's and pulled off one of their finest triumphs on away soil on this day. In a remarkable performance by the then skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni's young, in-transition brigade, they upstaged England at the end of a memorable five-day contest at the Home of Cricket. India successfully defended the target of 319 on a challenging Lord's track that offered seamers significant seam movement up front and uneven bounce as the strip dried later on. Under pressure after his team missed out on similar wins at Johannesburg and Wellington earlier that season, Dhoni needed his bowlers to come to the rescue and as always, his tried-and-trusted workhorse Ishant Sharma put his hand up. Ishant produced arguably his finest spell in Test cricket on a gloomy afternoon at Lord's, finishing with astonishing figures of 7 for 74 to help dismiss England for 223. In an inspired burst, Ishant used his height to great advantage as he broke past a gritty fifth wicket stand between Joe Root and Moeen Ali by getting Moeen to fend off a bouncer to short leg and opened the gates for a bizarre English collapse after lunch. One after the other, the Englishmen kept trying to pull and hook Ishant's well-directed bouncers and were out caught in the deep. Ishant went from 'Unlucky Ishant' to the game-changer for Dhoni and left India on the brink of their first victory at Lord's since 1986. Left-armer Ravindra Jadeja then got No.11 James Anderson run-out to close off the contest and usher in the most memorable celebrations for the visitors, who took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series after entering the 2014 tour as massive second favourites. Apart from Ishant, ace swing bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar also stood up to the challenge by taking an instrumental 6 for 82 in the first-innings, where the Indians kept England's lead down to only 24 after Ajinkya Rahane's most courageous 103 had taken the tourists to 295 all out on Day 1. In the third-innings, the in-form Murali Vijay top-scored with a 95 while Bhuvneshwar (52) and Jadeja (68) produced invaluable half-centuries to extend the target past the 300 mark. On a surface designed for English seamers to dominate and hammer the visitors, they turned the tables on them with a spirited performance that will be remembered forever fondly. view comments First Published: July 21, 2025, 07:30 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
