Busy Philipps urged Batman Ben Affleck to 'save' Oscars during Best Picture mishap

Yahoo22-05-2025
Busy Philipps urged Ben Affleck to "save" the night during the Oscars Best Picture mix-up in 2017 "because he was Batman". The 'Girls5Eva' actress had been seated next to the 52-year-old star - who portrayed the Caped Crusader in 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice', 'Justice League', 'Suicide Squad', and 'The Flash' - at the Academy Awards when Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway accidentally announced 'La La Land' had won the night's biggest honour, instead of correctly presenting it to 'Moonlight'. And Busy and best friend Michelle Williams recalled the confusion that occurred immediately afterwards and how they put their faith in Ben. Speaking on her show 'Busy This Week', Busy said: "We knew, cause we were right there in the front row. "We knew something weird was happening. Ben Affleck was next to me. You reminded me just earlier of what I said to him, which I totally forgot." Michelle explained: "You turned to him, and said, 'Do something! Do something!' Because he was Batman, and he was going to save the rest of us. "He was just as shocked as the rest of us." Busy added: "He was literally looking back at Matt Damon, who was sitting right behind his brother [Casey Affleck], who was, like, two doors down from you. And I don't know Ben Affleck. I just was like, 'He's Batman. He's a movie star. He can go onstage and handle it.' He could not. It turns out, it was very difficult to handle." A photo of the stars looking confused went viral at the time but Busy joked her show couldn't afford to use the image, so she and Michelle simply crossed their legs and dropped their mouths open to recreate it. She noted: "It's iconic." Shortly after the mishap took place, Busy, 46, described the confusion and how she and Michelle were among the first to realise what had happened. She explained on her Instagram Story at the time: ''La La Land' got up there, all of a sudden this stage manager or somebody who worked there with a microphone crouched in front of Casey [Affleck] and started whispering into his microphone really urgently and saying, 'It's a mistake! Moonlight is supposed to be Best Picture. It's a mistake! It's a mistake! Moonlight is Best Picture!' 'We all heard it right there — like right in the front. Nobody else heard it.'

Jennifer Lopez laughs off wardrobe malfunction after losing her skirt onstage: 'I'm glad I had underwear on'

The pop star is currently headlining her Up All Night Tour. Jennifer Lopez handled a wardrobe malfunction mid-concert like a pro after her shimmering gold skirt ended up "On the Floor." While ringing in her 56th birthday at a concert stop in Warsaw, Poland, on July 24, Jenny from the block let out a yelp after her skirt dropped to the floor during a crowd rendition of "Happy Birthday." Promptly after the mishap, the pop star smiled and strutted around the stage. "I'm out here in my underwear," she said. Lopez then tossed the skirt into the audience. "I'm glad I had underwear on," she said at the end of the song. "I don't usually wear underwear." Then, later, to the fan who caught the garment: "Yes! You can keep it. You can have it. I don't want it back." The moment unfolds around the two minute mark of the video above. The show, held at PGE Narodow, is part of Lopez's ongoing Up All Night Live Tour, launched on July 8 in Spain, and her first in six years. She originally planned to return to the stage with the This Is Me ... Live Tour last summer, but canceled the run amid reports of low ticket sales and separation from Ben Affleck. The former couple's divorce was finalized earlier this year. "I was so devastated to let anybody down, but I just needed to be with my kids and myself and really dig down deep into things that were happening in my life," she told Nikki Glaser for Interview Magazine. "And I'm glad I did, because it was a really difficult time for me. Probably the hardest time of my life, but it was also the best time because I got to do that work on myself.""I have the most understanding and loving fans in the world," Lopez added. "Some fan bases can be spicy. Mine are just a bunch of lovers." The 19-date Up All Night Tour will span Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia, concluding Aug. 10 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Lopez is also set to return to the big screen with Bill Condon's Kiss of the Spider Woman, in theaters Oct. 10. The musical drama, about two prisoners who form an unlikely bond over a Hollywood musical, is based on the novel by Manuel Puig and has notably also been adapted into a 1985 film with William Hurt and a 1993 Broadway musical. Gwyneth Paltrow Is Staying Unbothered Ahead of New Biography About Her Life, Source Says

Gwyneth Paltrow 'isn't too bothered' by the upcoming book about her life, a source tells Us Weekly exclusively. 'Gwyneth's been in the Hollywood game for a long time and so has a thick skin,' the insider continues. 'This book isn't a big deal for her.' Author Amy Odell is set to release Gwyneth: The Biography on Tuesday, July 29, offering insight into Paltrow's life from the early days of her career to behind-the-scenes details on how she became an A-list star. 'She didn't participate in the book like Anna Wintour did with the author's last book,' the same source says about Paltrow, referring to Odell's 2022 book Anna: The Biography. Gwyneth Paltrow Through the Years Odell's book doesn't hit shelves for a few more weeks, but People started rolling out excerpts from the biography on Wednesday, July 16. Portions of the book highlighted for the magazine start with Paltrow's time at a Manhattan private school. 'She had strangely potent charisma, and other Spence girls — even seniors — wanted to invest in knowing this new middle schooler,' the book reads. 'But other students seemed to feel threatened. One classmate recalled, 'Not one person had a doubt that she was going to be famous.'' Both of her past romances with Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck are showcased as the book runs through the early days of her career, as is a rumored feud with Winona Ryder over Paltrow's Oscar-winning Shakespeare in Love role. Paltrow allegedly passed on the 1998 film role, with the book claiming that she actually suggested Ryder for the part of Viola de Lesseps. It's been rumored for years that Paltrow ultimately took the role back from Ryder. 'After a story about Gwyneth allegedly stealing the script from Winona's coffee table reached the media, Gwyneth told friends that Ryder had started the rumor, and insisted she'd received the script through her agent,' Odell's book reads. (Paltrow denied the feud in a 2015 interview.) Gwyneth Paltrow's Dating History: Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck, Chris Martin and More Paltrow's past marriage to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin is also discussed throughout the book. The former couple were married from 2003 to 2016 and share two kids: Apple, 21, and Moses, 19. Paltrow has since moved on, marrying producer Brad Falchuk in 2018. Along with her personal life and acting career, Odell's book also addresses the Goop of it all. Paltrow launched the wellness brand as a weekly newsletter in 2008, and it's since become an empire. "Gwyneth was committed to covering products and experiences that translated her own tastes for her audience — however bizarre or inaccessible they might be,' Odell writes. Gwyneth: The Biography will be released on July 29. Solve the daily Crossword

Jennifer Lopez's Extremely High-Cut, Pantsless Look Is One of Her Most Daring Yet

The 'Hustlers' actress is midway through her "Up All Night" tour. Jennifer Lopez is celebrating her birthday in style with an extremely high-cut chrome bodysuit that dazzled on stage last night during a performance at Regnum The Crown, a luxury resort in Turkey. The Unstoppable actress turned 56 today and is currently in the middle of the "Up All Night" tour, which began on July 8 in Pontevedra, Spain and is slated to end on August 12 in Sardinia, Italy. Lopez's onesie was one of her most daring looks yet. The sculpted silver bodysuit was extremely high-cut and featured a plunging neckline that nearly reached her belly button. She paired the look with matching over-the-knee boots that were covered in hundreds of silver sequins. True to form, Lopez's other looks from the "Up All Night" tour have been similarly sexy. Last week, for example, she hit the stage in Bilbao, Spain wearing a leather onesie covered in silver grommets and chains. Over the top, she wore an inky black cropped leather jacket with dramatic shoulders and metallic studs. The "On The Floor" singer's other looks have so far included a silver-sequin bodysuit and gold fringe jacket, a plunging sequin bra, leather lace-up pants, and sequin-covered Yankees cap, and a glittery catsuit. Lopez has been hard at work on her music since her divorce from Ben Affleck was finalized this January. In May, she played host and performer at the American Music Awards in a total of eight outfits. "There's a lot of different options," she said prior to the AMAs. "I will change [my mind]. I'll be like, No, I don't like this hair. Let's just pull it back. Give me a ponytail. Where are my hoops? There's so many different ways to go, and I'm just going to pick whatever feels good in the moment." Following the ex-couple's split, the "Dance Again" singer apparently told comedian Tiffany Haddish that she was not seeking another relationship. "I told [Haddish],'Girl, I'm not looking for no man," Lopez said in an interview with Access Hollywood. "I'm happy right now, I'm not trying to ruin it, okay?"
