Malaysia Showcases Heritage At AAWAG Festival In Geneva

Barnama13-06-2025
KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 (Bernama) -- The aroma of authentic 'nasi lemak' and 'teh tarik', set against the cultural charm of 'Joget' and 'Zapin', brought Malaysia's unique culture and cuisine to the global stage at the Asian Ambassadors' Wives Association Geneva (AAWAG) Asian Festival in Geneva on Wednesday.
Held at the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), the annual festival, themed 'Jewels of Asia,' has gathered participation from 23 Asian countries, with each country showcasing their national identities through handicrafts, traditional costumes, cultural shows, and traditional cuisines.
In a statement, the Permanent Mission of Malaysia to the United Nations (UN) and World Trade Organisation (WTO) in Geneva said Malaysia promoted traditional local fare such as nasi lemak, satay ayam, karipap, and teh tarik, alongside traditional Malay dances such as Joget, Zapin, and Inang, and traditional costumes of Puteri Perak and Orang Ulu.

(Video) Fans Discuss Why 'Squid Game 2' Was Snubbed By The 2025 Emmy Awards

The second season of the South Korean hit series 'Squid Game (오징어 게임)' broke records with its premiere, and even recorded the biggest debut on the streaming platform. So, why did 'Squid Game 2' fail to receive a single nomination for the 2025 Emmy Awards? Earlier this week, the Primetime Emmy Awards, a.k.a. the Emmys, announced the nominations for their 2025 ceremony. Many stars received first-time nominations, and hit shows like 'Severance' and 'The Penguin' led the nomination score. However, one show that was notably absent from the nomination list was 'Squid Game'. Fans were disappointed to learn this fact, as many fans anticipated the show would receive several nominations, given its popularity. As such, many fans took to social media to discuss why the show failed to receive a single nomination, with the majority blaming it on racism and xenophobia. Some argued that the show was 'robbed' because it was an Asian show featuring an Asian cast, accusing the Emmys of not allowing foreign shows to shine. This argument was reinforced by the rumours that 'Squid Game' will receive an American spin-off. However, analysts believe the reason why the show failed to secure a nomination was due to the lack of narrative closure. Since the story of Squid Game Season 2 continued in Season 3, which was released six months later, it may have affected nominations. Despite the disappointment with this year's Emmys, the show's third season could still be nominated for next year's ceremony as its release date is within the eligibility period. Meanwhile, Netflix has been releasing several videos to commemorate the end of the series. In one video, the cast of 'Squid Game' from all three seasons bid farewell to the show by 'returning' their uniforms and belongings. A recent post from the official 'Squid Game' social media account also wrote, 'Game over. Thank you for playing,' marking the official end of the global phenomenon. While 'Squid Game' may have gotten snubbed by the Emmys, the show remains one of Netflix's biggest series and a fan favourite. Amy Search files report against Shila Amzah over attack claim

Veteran rocker Amy Search, whose real name is Suhaimi Abdul Rahman, had given his statements to the police last night. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Veteran rocker Amy Search has lodged a police report against singer Shila Amzah following her claim that she was attacked by a senior artiste during a concert rehearsal at the Merdeka Stadium in Kuala Lumpur. Shah Alam police chief Iqbal Ibrahim confirmed that a report from Amy, whose real name is Suhaimi Abdul Rahman, was received last night. 'Yes, a report was lodged, but it was more of a 'counter report' and a denial. The case has been referred to the Dang Wangi police headquarters,' he said, according to Berita Harian. Earlier, Harian Metro reported that Amy had given his statement at the Shah Alam police headquarters yesterday. This follows an allegation that Amy had scolded Shila during the concert rehearsal last Thursday. On Friday, Kuala Lumpur deputy police chief Usuf Jan Mohamad said an investigation paper into Shila's claim had been opened following a report filed by her. The case is being investigated for criminal intimidation. Shila, whose full name is Nurshahila Amir Amzah, claimed on Instagram that she was openly attacked in front of crew members during the rehearsal. Several veteran and popular artistes have been lined up for the concert.
