The Crucible review — a stolid, no-frills revival at the Globe
It certainly makes sense to bring Arthur Miller's portrait of the Salem witch trials to the period stage of the Globe. No gimmicks, no ultra-modern conceits. Ola Ince's stolid, no-frills production possesses the aura of a travelling show that has pitched its tents by the Thames and set out its wares for the passing public.
If the tempo drags during the lengthy first-half exposition, the groundlings find themselves drawn into the tumult in the courtroom scene, witnesses and officials taking their places among the audience. This

REVEALED: Gavin And Stacey crew member who left Mathew Horne in tears was a Barry Island favourite who complained of chest pains just weeks before his death
The Gavin And Stacey crew member whose death reduced Matthew Horne this week was driver Rob Picton, a father-of-four. Earlier this week, lead actor Horne, who played Gavin Shipman in the iconic BBC sitcom, announced Rob's death in tears to fans during an 'In Conversation With...' show. He said: 'Sorry. I got distracted. Earlier on... we had a driver on the finale called Rob and he was in his early 40s... and I found out via the Whatsapp group earlier that he has passed away and I got slightly distracted there. 'It's really really sad. I got distracted by losing Rob. He was a really lovely guy and he's left a four year old behind and that is really really really sad.' Rob was a driver for the show, but was also locally known in South Wales as a DJ and producer, going under the name Joe Blow. He was pictured on location for a shoot of the final ever Gavin and Stacey episode last year, with actor Rob Brydon visible in a video posted to social media. Just weeks before his shock death, Rob shared to friends and family how he hadn't been feeling well - and was sent home from work with chest pains Proud of his involvement in the show, Rob had gushed on Facebook at the time: 'Who's that Handsome Guy driving Uncle Bryn and Gwen around then? Send in your answers on the back of a postcard.' In January this year, Rob shared a snap of him with Larry Lamb, describing him as 'Uncle Larry' in a sweet post. He penned on X: Always lovely to catch up with uncle for an xmas treat.' Just weeks before his shock death, Rob shared to friends and family how he hadn't been feeling well - and was sent home from work with chest pains. He posted on July 17: 'To everyone who has been trying to get hold of me, I will be back in touch, I'm not ignoring you. Got sent home from work a few days ago with chest pains and been wiped out ever since with Esophagitis.' Thanking his brother and partner Shariffa for their support, he added: 'It's sucks not being able to swallow food or drink without being in excruciating pain, as anyone who knows me knows its my favourite thing to do.' Rob was a well-respected DJ and club promoter in Wales, with his involvement in the local music industry spanning two-and-a-half decades. He had previously shared his nightclub appearances and events from across Wales on his Instagram account to fans. Rob had worked as a driver for the final of Gavin and Stacey and proudly posted about his involvement in the show on Facebook A GoFundMe page has been set up to support Rob's family following his passing, with over £3,000 raised so far The dad-of-four had two daughters and two sons, with his youngest son only celebrating his fifth birthday in June Rob also ran his very own car business, called Pictons Motors, though the company was dissolved in 2023 after five years in business, according to Companies House. The dad-of-four had two daughters and two sons, with his youngest son only celebrating his fifth birthday in June. Proudly marking his little boy's big day, Rob had shared pictures of his birthday as he opened his presents. Rob had previously served a year in prison after pleading guilty to assaulting a man at a nightclub while working as a bouncer at the time. He was jailed in 2020 after admitting to causing the then 21-year-old victim grievous bodily harm along with another colleague. Previously speaking about his time in prison, Rob said he was locked up for 23 hours of the day. He told the ACE Podcast Nation: 'It wasn't great obviously, nobody wants to go to prison. 'Cardiff prison is a smelly old place, you know, it f***ing stinks of p*ss like.' He added: 'You're stuck in a cell so it's just you, yourself and your thoughts for months on end.' A GoFundMe page has been setup following Rob's passing, with Gavin and Stacey star James Corden leading the donations with £1,000. The actor, who played Smithy, did not leave a comment but signed his name to the generous donation towards Picton's funeral costs. At the time publication the fundraiser had so far raised £3,295 - over halfway to the goal of £5.5k. A friend of Rob, who created the page, shared a snap of him in a car, and said: We've now received a little more information about our dear friend Rob Picton. 'While we still don't fully know the reasons or circumstances around his sudden passing, what we do know is that Rob was proud — proud of his children, his work, and the life he lived. 'Just a few weeks ago, I was sitting in the car with him, chatting about his birthday weekend and his kids. It's still hard to believe he's no longer with us.'

Love Island's Uma hits back at cruel troll who tells her to use fat jabs before her wedding
UMA Jammeh has had the perfect response to a troll who told her to "go on Ozempic before her wedding". The Love Island star announced in mid-July that she was engaged to Wil Anderson a year after they met on the show. 5 5 But while most people filled the pair's feed with congratulations and loving messages, one bitter commenter decided to try and bring her down, telling her "Go on Ozempic b4 your wedding". Rather than let it get her down, stunning Uma knew exactly how to respond – with a perfectly timed TikTok video basically telling them to shut up. Strutting her stuff on a hotel rooftop overlooking the sea, Uma put on her most stunning cream dress as she posed and blew a kiss to the camera. She then lipsynced a quote from Oscar-winning movie Anora and declared: "Stay jealous, honey. Jealousy is a disease, remember that, Diamond!" In the caption, Uma wrote: "Thankyou for giving me the perfect excuse to use this sound 😝" Her Love Island pals loved the clapback, with Millie Court writing: "u tell em girl !!!!!! you are quite literally the definition of perfection !!!!" Matilda Draper wrote: 'OBSESSED WITH U" later adding, "Deluded peopleeee" Influencer Amy Reddish also weighed in and said: "What the f**k are people ok !! You are absolutely incredible !! 🔥🔥" "Imagine being the most beautiful woman to grace Love Island and you still get comments like this ☠️" added a fan. The sweet support clearly meant a lot to Uma, who later added in teh comments: "Thank you for all the lovely comments guys and don't worry I would never listen stuff like this I just thought it was a slay video ☺️😝🥰💕" Love Island beauty Uma Jammeh lands huge new six-figure job to rival Maya Jama a year after leaving the villa Uma and Wil announced their engagement on July 14, with Wil getting down on one knee during a romantic getaway to Palma de Mallorca in Spain. Mallorca is where the Love Island villa is located, so holds special meaning to them. Wil shared photos of the romantic, beachside proposal – which came complete with candles, flowers and rose petal scattered around a cosy nook. Making the announcement days later, Uma's diamond ring was sparkling as she posed in a chartreuse-coloured halter-neck dress. 5

Where all the forgotten Love Island finalists are now after they failed to cling onto fame and fortune after ITV2 show
WHILST reaching the Love Island final might seem like a golden ticket to fame and fortune and an endless career in the spotlight, things don't always go quite to plan for the Islanders. Despite most of the show's finalists going on to enjoy successful careers, including some as A-listers and multi-millionaires, for an unlucky few, they plunged back into obscurity just months after their time in the spotlight. 8 8 Whilst many dream of the seven-figure deals that roll in for icons including Molly-Mae Hague, Ekin-Su and Maura Higgins - a handful of Islanders haven't been so fortunate. As another four couples head into this Monday's Love Island final, will they be set for life or will one or two of them fall victim to the curse of disappearing from relevancy like these stars. The Sun has compiled a list of the famous finalists who failed to strike it big and make an impact after their summer of love in the spotlight. Paul Knops 8 Hunky model Paul was already well on the way to making a name for himself after becoming one of the world's most in-demand male models. He was even chosen to be Britney Spears ' love interest for her racy 2016 music video, Make Me..., which saw him getting hot and heavy with the star. So when Paul strutted into the Love Island villa as a late entrant in 2018, it seemed like a no-brainer that he was on track to become a top star. Paul coupled up with fan favourite Laura Anderson after her split from Wes Nelson. Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham. But the pair quickly split up after Majorca and whilst Laura remained in the headlines and on TV screens, Paul's star faded just as quick as his time in the villa. Whilst his looks haven't faded, it seems the handsome fella prefers living a quieter life away from the hustle and bustle of influencer life. Love Island exes Laura Anderson and Paul Knops agree to move on in Christmas Reunion heart-to-heart Paul still models and his Instagram shows him picture perfect at all times with his new long-haired locks. Lana Jenkins 8 When blonde stunner Lana was revealed to be an Islander on series nine of the show in 2023, she seemed like a ready made celebrity. She quickly found herself besotted with partner Ron Hall and they managed to make it all the way to second place in the villa. But despite Lana aligning herself with the same team behind Olivia Attwood, she failed to make a dent in the entertainment industry after her time on the show. Despite the expectation of big brand deals, Lana's commercial work was limited and it wasn't long until her romance with co-star Ron also crumbled at the same time her career stalled. Although she failed to hit the big time, Lana still boasts 500,000 fans on Instagram and shows off glam snaps from her plush travels around the world. She also runs her own home Instagram account to show off her passion for interior design. Josh Oyinsan 8 Despite only winning the show last summer alongside then-partner, Mimii Ngulube, Josh struggled to translate his win into a long-lasting media career. When Josh and Mimii quickly split following their win, interest in the couple wavered and Josh failed to land any major gigs despite being crowned a champion. Whilst Josh has managed to land a number of paid partnerships on Instagram after the show, it pales in comparison to some of the brand deals landed by his counterparts. His passion for wellness and advocating for the mental health of young athletes has been commendable however and earned him a legion of support. Ched Uzor 8 Series six Islander Ched was another star whose place in the final did not guarantee a lengthy career afterwards. He found himself in a relationship with Jess Gale and the loveable pair managed to make it to fourth place on the programme. But their love did not prevail and they called it quits shortly after the show. Ched then found his own career disrupted by the Covid pandemic and he failed to land any big-money gigs. However, despite turning his back on fame, Ched has managed to carve out an online fitness business. Known for his impressive figure and muscly body, Ched has put this to use by helping his followers get in shape and achieve a dream body like his. Titled Shred with Ched, he has launched the app to become an instant personal trainer to people up and down the country. Some of the services that Ched offers includes one-to-one coaching as well as personally curated nutrition and workout plans for each client. Tanya Manhenga 8 Like her co-star Lana, Tanya hoped that her time on series nine of Love Island would turn her into a money-spinning star. However, the reality was very different. After finishing in fourth place with then-boyfriend, Shaq Muhammad, Tanya struggled to replicate the success of the ladies who came before her after failing to couple up with a big-money fashion brand. These days, Tanya is living a single life after splitting with Shaq and enjoys a jet-setting lifestyle. Helping her travelling habit is her latest venture titled Grooves with TT. It is Tanya's own touring club night featuring exclusively Amapiano music. The star held her first club night in Manchester earlier this year with plans for an event in London next month before taking it across Europe. She also kept her post-villa income topped up with her own wig business, called Tay Slay Wigs. Lauren Richardson 8 Lauren managed to make it all the way to the final of Love Island back in 2015. Despite being coupled up with Josh Ritchie, that didn't help her when it came to securing a top career. Whilst Josh has been a TV regular and shot to even greater fame thanks to his romance with Charlotte Crosby, Lauren quickly faded into obscurity. Heavily tattooed Lauren is worlds away from the typical Islander, with her Instagram feed showing a much more demure and laid-back life in comparison to the glitz and glam of the usual crop of ITV2 stars. Lauren hasn't updated her feed since 2021 and chooses to keep her life out of the spotlight.
