Odisha CM directs Kendrapara Administration to take strict action against Bangladeshi infiltrators

Kendrapara, June 9 (UNI) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi has directed the Kendrapara district administration to take strict action against Bangladeshi infiltrators.
The Chief Minister gave this direction while reviewing the various developmental work of the district during his visit on Monday
Majhi also announced that appropriate action would be taken after receiving information about challenges like smuggling and law-and-order issues in the district.
He said steps would soon be taken for the development of water resources and industries in the district.
The mangrove forest in Kendrapara district would be further expanded, while eco-tourism would be accelerated in Bhitarkanika and Gahirmatha, the Chief Minister stated.
Majhi also announced that new projects would be inaugurated in the district soon, including the establishment of a medical college in Kendrapara.
The meeting also discussed the Parikrama project of the Sri Baladevjew Temple.
Majhi said, 'Our goal is to make Kendrapara a model district in the coming days, with a focus
on new projects like setting up industries, developing tourism, and promoting renewable energy.'
He added that a detailed plan for this should be prepared within the next month.
Before the review meeting, the Chief Minister participated in a Tiranga Yatra from the Mausi Maa Temple to the Sri Baladevjew Temple.

Baghel accuses BJP of stalling OBC quota implementation
New Delhi, June 28 (UNI) Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Bhupesh Baghel today attacked the BJP, accusing it of deceiving the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community while pretending to champion their cause. Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters here, Baghel along with senior leaders Anil JaiHind, Jitu Patwari and Harish Chaudhary said, 'The true nature, character, and face of the BJP have now been exposed. Once again, it has been proven that while the BJP showcases the face of the OBC community, it actually betrays their interests.' The former Chhattisgarh CM said that in 1994, fourteen percent reservation was granted to the OBCs, which was later increased to 27 percent during the tenure of then Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh in 2003. He however claimed that the BJP failed to implement this increased quota, even under the leadership of three OBC Chief Ministers—Uma Bharti, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and Mohan Yadav. Questioning the delay, Baghel said that there are no legal impediments to implementing the reservation. 'When the bill has been passed in the Assembly, approved by the court, and signed by the Governor, what is stopping the government from implementing it?' He also pointed to the unanimous decision of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly on December 2, 2022, to provide 27 percent reservation to the backward classes. Baghel claimed that the Governor had assured publicly that she would not delay the bill if passed. However, despite the bill being sent to the Raj Bhavan on the same evening, the Governor reportedly said she was 'still studying' it, a process that remains incomplete even in mid-2025. 'This ongoing delay is a gross misuse of authority,' Baghel said, claiming that even the Supreme Court has reprimanded this inaction on multiple occasions. Terming the situation as 'deeply unfortunate,' Baghel alleged that the BJP is not only anti-OBC and anti-farmer but also displays blatant disregard for constitutional values. PM Modi honoured with ‘Dharma Chakravarti' on centenary of Jain guru Vidyanand
New Delhi, June 28 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honoured today with the title of 'Dharma Chakravarti' on centenary celebrations of Jain spiritual leader Vidyanand here. Speaking on receiving the award, PM Modi said, "On this occasion, you honoured me with the title of 'Dharma Chakravarti'. I do not consider myself suitable for this. But it is our culture that whatever we receive from saints, we accept it as 'prasad'. So, I humbly accept this 'prasad' and dedicate it to Maa Bharati'." The event was also attended by Union culture and tourism minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Rashtrasant Paramparacharya Pragyasagar Muniraj, alongside other dignitaries, parliamentarians, and Jain acharyas, said a statement from the Ministry here. "This day is also special because on June 28, 1987, Acharya Vidyanand Muniraj received the title of 'Acharya'. It wasn't just an honour but it was also a 'pavitra dhaara' connecting the Jain culture to ideas, restraint and compassion. When we are celebrating his 100th birth anniversary today, it reminds us of that historic moment", PM Modi said, said the statement. He also visited a specially curated exhibition titled 'Life and Legacy of Acharya Shri 108 Vidyanand Ji Maharaj', which showcased murals, paintings, and rare archival material chronicling the saint's contributions. On the occasion, a commemorative stamp and coin were released, alongside a biographical volume detailing saint's life journey. The centenary celebrations which will be observed until April 22, 2026 mark the beginning of a year-long national tribute to the revered saint and scholar, organised jointly by the Culture Ministry and the Bhagwan Mahaveer Ahimsa Bharti centenary year will be observed through nationwide cultural, literary, educational, and spiritual programmes. Born in 1925 in Shedbal, Belagavi (Karnataka), Vidyanand became one of the most respected Jain monks of modern India. He memorised over 8,000 Jain Agamic verses and authored more than 50 influential works, including Jain Darshan, Anekantvad, and Mokshmarg Darshan. His historical contributions include designing the official Jain Flag and Emblem during the 2500th Nirvana Mahotsav of Bhagwan Mahavir in 1975. The five-colour flag and the Ahimsa hand symbol are now universally accepted across Jain traditions, as per the statement. He was also pivotal in identifying Basokund in Bihar as Bhagwan Mahavir's birthplace — a finding recognised by the Indian government in 1956.
