Caerphilly shoplifter targets Morrisons to steal vodka
He was being sentenced for two thefts at the store two months ago.
The first offence took place on March 21 when he pinched a £19.50 bottle of Smirnoff vodka.
The second incident happened a week later on March 28 when he took a bottle of Glenmorangie whisky, two bottles of Smirnoff and a bottle of Glen's Vodka which were worth £87.
Emma Meadows, prosecuting, said: 'The defendant made no attempt to pay for the items.'
Pitman was recognised immediately when police officers studied CCTV footage of the thefts.
The defendant had been accompanied by a woman during the second offence who had provided a pink bag for him to carry the spirits.
He was also being sentenced for a third shoplifting incident when he pinched coffee valued at £4 from Iceland in Caerphilly on April 14.
The total value of the goods taken was £110.50.
'When he was arrested and interviewed, the defendant admitted all the three offences,' Miss Meadows added.
'He explained he had stolen the items in the first two offences after planning to sell them in Lansbury Park.'
Victim impact statements were provided to the court.
Lewis Duke from Morrisons said: 'This shoplifter is a prolific offender who targets us to steal high value spirits.'
He added: "We can't stop him without police assistance.'
Rhys Williams from Iceland said: 'Incidents like this take away employees from the shopfloor and from our customers.'
Shoplifting, he revealed, results in reduced profits and the knock-on effect of staff hours having to be reduced to compensate.
Pitman, formerly of Dol Yr Eos, Mornington Meadows, Caerphilly pleaded guilty to three counts of theft.
He committed the offences while he was the subject of a suspended custodial sentence for burglary with intent.
That jail sentence was activated last month and he appeared in court via video link from prison.
Abigail Jackson representing Pitman said he was homeless and had been sleeping in a shed.
Judge Carl Harrison jailed the defendant for four weeks which will be served consecutively to his current prison term.
Pitman will also have to pay a £154 victim surcharge following his release.

Health board shares warning after fake vodka containing lethal chemical found in Scotland
NHS Lanarkshire has echoed a warning over fake vodka being sold in shops, which could cause death if ingested. Food Standards Scotland (FSS) warned that 35cl counterfeit half bottles were found to be fraudulently labelled as Glen's Vodka last month. The fakes were found to contain the chemical isopropyl, which is not intended for human consumption. FSS warned that the fake spirit may have a strange smell and taste differently from genuine vodka. If ingested, symptoms can range from abdominal pain, vomiting and dizziness, to slow breathing, coma, and even death. 'The counterfeit vodka recovered was sold in 35cl bottles and fraudulently labelled as Glen's.' Market Drayton Morrisons store targeted in attempted break-in
A cash machine has been severely damaged in an attempted break-in by robbers, police targeted an ATM at the Morrisons on Maer Lane, Market Drayton, Shropshire, at about 02:00 BST on cash was stolen from the machine but it was left badly damaged in the attempt, the force said. Enquiries were ongoing to identify the would-be robbers who fled the scene by car, they added, and witnesses were urged to come forward. Rat sightings spark action call over York fly-tipping
A councillor has begged for action to be taken after rubbish fly-tipped at a notorious dumping spot began attracting waste has been left around overflowing recycling bins in a car park at the Morrisons store in Acomb, resident Craig Smith said the fly-tipping had been a problem for years and bin bags often split, attracting of York Council said there were plans to put more skips at the site along with signs warning against fly-tipping, but that the landowners were responsible for clearing the waste. Tanya Lyon, the council's community safety manager, said fly-tipping was taken "very seriously" with perpetrators fined up to £1,000 or said the council was working alongside its waste disposal company to put warning signs on the recycling bins and the viability of installing CCTV was also being added: "On private land, fly-tipping will be investigated, but landowners are responsible for clearance."The Local Democracy Reporting Service said it understood Morrisons had been in contact with the council over the issue, but the supermarket chain had declined to comment councillor Emily Nelson, Labour's ward member for Westfield, said anyone with information that could help with taking action against the fly-tipping should come forward.
