Dodgers' Dave Roberts Gives Injury Update on Roki Sasaki
Dodgers' Dave Roberts Gives Injury Update on Roki Sasaki originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Los Angeles Dodgers rookie phenom Roki Sasaki has been on the injured list since early May with a right shoulder impingement, and manager Dave Roberts is providing a more positive update on Sasaki's condition compared to the one he gave nearly three weeks ago. Advertisement "He's just not feeling that he can kind of ramp it up, so I gather that we're trying to hold the baseball a little bit until he feels like we can get going again," Roberts said last month. According to Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times, Roberts has a bit more encouraging outlook on Sasaki's condition. Roberts said that Sasaki is "feeling really good," which is a good sign that the starting pitcher could be making progress in his recovery. Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Roki Sasaki (11) looks on in the dougout during the third inning of the game against the Athletics at Dodger Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images Sasaki's MLB debut this season has been a rollercoaster, flashing elite strikeout capability coupled with control issues. He went 1-1 in his eight starts, pitching 34.1 innings with 24 strikeouts, 22 walks, and a 4.72 ERA. Sasaki's struggles adjusting to MLB hitting have only been set back even farther because of the shoulder injury. Advertisement Like many, Joe Mistretta of ClutchPoints is exceptionally high on the pitcher, which makes a full recovery for Sasaki that much more critical to the top team in the National League. "Anyone who has watched Sasaki pitch understands how high his ceiling is," Mistretta said. "The right-handed pitcher could become a Cy Young candidate if he develops consistency at the big league level." Sure, the up-and-down starting pitching for Los Angeles has been a concern this season, but the Dodgers have no reason to rush Sasaki back. He got hurt on May 13 and could be activated by the All-Star break, although it does not seem that promising. Roberts has yet to provide a return date. WATCH: Clayton Kershaw's Heartfelt Moment After Dodgers Game
WATCH: Clayton Kershaw's Heartfelt Moment After Dodgers Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. On Wednesday against the Chicago White Sox at Dodger Stadium, the Los Angeles Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw etched his name into baseball history by becoming the 20th pitcher in MLB history to record 3,000 career strikeouts, making him just the fourth lefty to hit the mark. Advertisement Kershaw entered the game needing just three strikeouts. He fanned Miguel Vargas and Lenyn Sosa, then punched out Vinny Capra with a nasty slider on the outside corner on his 100th pitch, sealing the milestone on the final out of the sixth inning. The packed Dodger Stadium crowd poured a six-minute ovation for one of the game's all-time greats. However, after the game, Kershaw may have had his sweetest moment with his family. The 37-year-old is in his 18th MLB season after debuting with the Dodgers in 2008. He has racked up a record of 216-94, with a 2.51 career ERA, a three-time NL Cy Young award winner, a 2014 NL MVP, and last but not least, a World Series Champion. Advertisement Kershaw joins Randy Johnson, CC Sabathia, and Steve Carlton among left-handers. Los Angeles, California, USA; Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw (22) acknowledges the crowd after striking out Chicago White Sox third baseman Vinny Capra (41) for his 3000th career strike at Dodger Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images According to Sarah Langs of Kershaw has struck out 959 batters throughout his career. Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer are the only other active pitchers to hit the mark. Kershaw becomes the 20th pitcher in MLB history to reach 3,000 strikeouts, most recently done in 2021 by Scherzer. The Dodgers' superstar currently has a 3.43 ERA this season with a 4-0 record in nine starts for Los Angeles. He has 32 total strikeouts in 2025.
