Officers believe some protestors tried to make Molotov cocktails during anti-ICE protest

DENVER (KDVR) — Police say that 18 people were arrested during anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement protests that started at the State Capitol Tuesday evening.
Police records indicate that officers believed some of the protestors were trying to make Molotov cocktails. Police arrest records show people were arrested for, among other things, obstruction of a roadway, failure to obey a lawful order, graffiti and second-degree assault of an officer.
Over a dozen arrested in Denver Tuesday during ICE protest; police use smoke, pepper balls
The protest was mostly peaceful, according to Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas.
'(I'm) Disappointed, though, that there were agitators in the crowd that really wanted to try to taunt the police, create dangerous situations for the community,' Thomas said.
Tensions grew as the crowd left the Capitol grounds and headed toward Broadway and Interstate 25.
There was concern that the protestors would walk onto the interstate.
'Our first tactic was to use smoke as a deterrent and let them know that we are serious. We don't want to continue with the activity that you're engaged in right now. That was effective in getting a number of people to leave the area and stop their attempts to gain access to the highway,' Thomas said.
The crowds in Colorado were protesting ICE raids taking place in Los Angeles and across the U.S. A spokesperson said they wanted to show their support for protestors in California.

In one instance, arrest records show a protester scratched an officer, which led to an assault charge.
'They will be the cases that we'll see more attention from prosecutors and courts in terms of holding individuals responsible,' FOX31 Legal Analyst Christopher Decker said.
However, Colorado 50501, which is planning the 'No Kings' events for Trump's birthday, said that it did not participate in planning the march on Tuesday night, but did promote the nonviolent march and peaceful protest, 'in support of immigration rights and demanding an end to the criminal executive overreach of the current administration.'
The organization said that a group 'splintered' at the end of the peaceful event and proceeded to protest into the evening, which 50501 said was not represenative of the group's values.
'We wholeheartedly support everyone's right to protest,' the group wrote. 'This fundamental freedom is a pillar of democracy and a vital expression of invidual and collective voices.'
The group said it will continue to commit to nonviolence, inclusivity and conflict resolution.
DPD said pepper balls were also fired at the ground to create a deterrent and break up the crowds. FOX31 was told that many of the tactics that were used during the protest Tuesday night were implemented after the George Floyd protests in 2020.
FOX31's Heather Willard contributed to this report.

Trump approves $50 million in federal funding for Michigan ice storm recovery

President Trump has approved $50 million in federal funds for Michigan to support repairs and recovery from the March ice storm in northern Michigan. Mr. Trump announced the funding on Tuesday on his Truth Social page. "I just spoke with Governor Gretchen Whitmer to let her know I am approving $50 Million Dollars for the wonderful State of Michigan for Public Assistance to help them recover from the terrible Winter Storms they endured. It was my Honor to do so," Mr. Trump said in a post. "Great news for Northern Michigan!" Michigan House Speaker Matt Hall said in response to the federal funding approval. The March 28-30 ice storm caused so much damage to trees, roads, utility poles and infrastructure that the State of Michigan quickly listed several counties in a state emergency declaration. Some schools did not have classes for two weeks. The state officials' pitch for federal help included at least one in-person meeting among Hall, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Mr. Trump on the matter. "I'm glad to have received word from President Trump committing federal funds to help Northern Michigan communities impacted by the historic ice storm damage earlier this year. We have more details to gather, but I'm grateful for this response to my requests of the White House," Whitmer said on a social media post Tuesday. "This has been one of our top priorities at the Capitol, and President Trump was very concerned when Gov. Whitmer and I spoke to him about the terrible damage at the White House this spring," Hall added. "People up there are struggling, and our northern communities are running out of emergency resources. When we need help, President Trump delivers. This is a very important lifeline and one more big help for Michigan in a year full of big wins working together." Hall pointed to the Michigan announcement in a series of social media posts from the White House's Rapid Response 47 team. That series of announcements from the White House also included approvals of federal funding for: A page for announcements and resources has been set up on the Federal Emergency Management Agency page under the title "Michigan Severe Winter Storm." The State of Michigan has compiled its announcements and resources on the 2025 Northern Michigan ice storm page.

Jokers Troll Alligator Alcatraz Mastermind's Appeal to Get Their Exes Deported: ‘How About Mother-in-Laws?'

Feeling sad after being ditched by your lover? Heartbroken at being cheated on? Now you can get your own back on your ex—by turning them over to ICE. While it may sound a little like a Saturday Night Live sketch, it is actually the brainchild of Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier. The politician—famed for being the mastermind behind Alligator Alcatraz—took to social media Tuesday to encourage voters to snitch on their former sweethearts who are in the U.S. illegally. 'We recently got a tip from someone whose abusive ex overstayed a tourism visa. He is now cued up for deportation,' Uthmeier posted on X. 'If your ex is in this country illegally, please feel free to reach out to our office. We'd be happy to assist.' While some of Uthmeier's followers responded positively, others mocked the idea, with some comedians asking if they could have their meddlesome mothers-in-law deported instead. 'And don't forget nagging mothers-in-law, and that snotty kid with the nose ring at Starbucks who always gives you a dirty look when you ask for a 'medium',' replied @PeterDeGiglio. Another joker posted: 'Whatever you do, please don't deport my mother-in-law, [name redacted]… She gets off work at the [stop redacted] on Route 9 around 4:30 p.m., so please don't be waiting for her in the parking lot.' It didn't take long, though, for Kristi Noem's Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to jump on the idea. Within two hours, it posted on X: 'From domestic abuser to deported loser. ICE Tip Line: 866-DHS-2-ICE.' It's not the first time DHS has responded positively to Uthmeier's seemingly wacky proposals. His deport-your-ex gambit arrives barely a month after Uthmeier pitched 'Alligator Alcatraz,' a controversial migrant jail marooned in the Everglades and ringed by hungry reptiles. While it may have seemed a far-flung idea at the time, President Donald Trump greenlit and had the facility up and running within days. Since the camp opened, detainees have reported being 'like rats in an experiment,' swatting mosquitoes under 24-hour floodlights and eating spoiled food. Stephen Miller, the architect of Trump's immigration policy, blasted critics of the scheme, claiming the reptile-ringed jail would give migrants 'a superior quality of care.' The Daily Beast has contacted the Florida Attorney General's Office for comment. Solve the daily Crossword
