Cavaliers swap Isaac Okoro for former No. 2 overall pick Lonzo Ball
The Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to acquire guard Lonzo Ball from the Chicago Bulls for forward Isaac Okoro according to a person with knowledge of the agreement.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Saturday because the trade can not be finalized until the start of the new league year on July 6.
Ball averaged 7.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 35 games this past season after missing the 2022-23 and 2023-24 campaigns because of a left knee injury. The 27-year old Ball underwent a meniscus and cartilage transplant in his left knee in March 2023 after two surgeries failed to fix an injury he suffered during his first season in Chicago in 2021-22.
Ball, the second overall pick by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2017 draft, missed the last two months of the season because of a sprained right wrist. He has one year remaining on his contract with a team option for the 2026-27 season.
Cleveland has a need at point guard with Ty Jerome becoming an unrestricted free agent and Darius Garland likely to miss the start of the regular season after undergoing surgery on his left big toe earlier this month.
The Cavaliers had the second-best record in the NBA at 64-18 but were eliminated in the Eastern Conference semifinals by the Indiana Pacers in five games.
Okoro averaged 6.1 points and 2.4 rebounds this past season and is a strong defender who can also shoot well from the perimeter. However, he found his playing time begin to decrease over the season. He averaged 14.2 minutes in the playoffs after logging 19.1 minutes per game in the regular season.
Okoro has two years remaining on his contract.

Sabrina Ionescu's Status Receives Major Update on Wednesday
Sabrina Ionescu's Status Receives Major Update on Wednesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Liberty is in a state of flux. The defending WNBA champions have had important players come in and out of the lineup in recent games, as they attempt to keep up with the league-best Minnesota Lynx for the top record in The W. Advertisement The Liberty still have a strong 10-3 record, the best in the Eastern Conference. But New York enters Wednesday night's game against the Golden State Valkyries amidst a rare two-game losing skid Center Jonquel Jones is out multiple weeks with an ankle injury, while forward Leonie Fiebich has been playing for Germany at EuroBasket. In addition, star guard Sabrina Ionescu missed Sunday's 89-79 loss to the Seattle Storm due to a neck injury. However, the good news for head coach Sandy Brondello is that Ionescu told reporters on Wednesday afternoon that she will play against the Valkyries, an occasion that marks the Liberty's first visit to Chase Center. Despite three defeats in the past four games, the Liberty still rank No. 1 in the WNBA in offensive rating (108.3) and net rating (plus-13.9), and No.2 in defensive rating (94.4). Advertisement Ionescu and Breanna Stewart are the only pair of teammates in the WNBA both averaging 20 points per game or better; both sit in the top five in league scoring, one-third of the way through the regular season. Ionescu ranks fifth in the league in 3-pointers attempted and fourth in 3-pointers made. Now in her sixth season, Ionescu is on course for a career-best scoring average and field goal percentage, figures she will look to augment in San Francisco on Wednesday night. Cristiano Ronaldo Turned Down Club World Cup Offers With 2026 World Cup In Mind
Resting up to play in a record sixth World Cup was more important to Cristiano Ronaldo than switching teams to play in the Club World Cup. "I had some offers to play (Club) World Cup but I think it didn't make sense because I prefer to have a good rest, a good preparation, because this season will be very long, because this is the season of the World Cup, at the end of the season," Ronaldo said in an Instagram video posted by his Saudi Arabian club, Al Nassr, after signing a two-year extension. "So I want to be ready not only for Al Nassr but also for the national team." RELATED: 26 Stars for '26: Top Players Who Could Define the World Cup The 40-year-old Ronaldo helped Portugal to the Nations League trophy with a penalty shootout win over Spain three weeks ago as speculation swirled that he would transfer to another club to play in the Club World Cup currently being contested in the United States. He and longtime Argentina rival Lionel Messi could be the first players to appear in six World Cups at next year's tournament co-hosted by the U.S., Canada and Mexico. In Qatar three years ago, Ronaldo became the first male player to score at five World Cups. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner's extension with Al Nassr means he will play on until at least the age of 42. Reporting by The Associated Press. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Hunter Sallis on two-way deal with Sixers: ‘They think I'm a steal'
Shortly after the 2025 NBA Draft, 22-year-old Hunter Sallis made news when it was reported that the young guard signed a two-way deal with the Philadelphia 76ers. On Saturday, after becoming a part of the franchise, the Omaha, Nebraska native caught up with First Alert 6 news and reacted to the his becoming one of the newest members of the franchise. 'They think I'm a steal,' Sallis told First Alert 6. 'They told me like they didn't really have any second-round picks, so they were happy to see that I was available at the end – they think that was a great look for me.' Although Sallis doesn't arrive in Philadelphia with the same type of accolades and fanfare as first-round pick VJ Edgecombe, Daryl Morey and his staff probably hope that the 22-year-old can become a part of the solution in Philadelphia after the Sixers stumbled to a disappointing 24-58 finish last season. And while there are a lot of guards that will likely enter the 2025-26 season ahead of Sallis on the depth chart, if the front office proves correct — and Sallis does come anywhere near fulfilling his mighty potential — then he can potentially become a part of rebuilding a winning culture in Philadelphia and having the Sixers emerge as contenders in the wide-open Eastern Conference.
