Drivers abandon overloaded lorries, flee after spotting JPJ roadblock on SKVE
KUALA LANGAT: A group of tipper lorry drivers believed to be carrying loads exceeding the legal limit abandoned their heavy vehicles upon noticing a roadblock set up by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) at the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) toll plaza in Saujana Putra on Thursday (May 29), Sinar Harian reports.
The Malay language daily reported that the incident happened during "Ops Paras," conducted by Selangor JPJ at around 11am Thursday.
A survey by Sinar Harian observed approximately 15 lorries of various load types parked on the roadside before the toll plaza.
At least four tipper lorries were left with their engines running by drivers suspected to be foreign nationals after realising their infractions, including carrying excessive loads.
Following this, JPJ issued various summonses for the offences, requiring the owners to come forward to address the notices and prevent their vehicles from being blacklisted.
Additionally, a trailer suspected of carrying a load of electronic waste was also abandoned by its driver.
Selangor JPJ director, Azrin Borhan, told Sinar Harian that since the implementation of Ops Paras on May 1, 143 goods vehicles have been issued notices under Section 63(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which involves an order to weigh the vehicles.
He noted that Ops Paras focuses on enforcement against goods vehicles committing offences of carrying loads exceeding the limit and transporting goods dangerously.
"Throughout the period, there have been 724 cases involving excessive loads, 645 cases of transporting goods dangerously, and the seizure of 23 vehicles.
"Based on the statements we obtained from the drivers, they claim to carry excessive loads to chase commissions or profits," he told reporters on Thursday.
He added that common loads detected include sand, stones, soil, and palm oil waste.
He clarified that the operation was launched to curb the rise in accidents caused by heavy vehicles that do not comply with road safety laws and standards, particularly those involving the offence of carrying excessive loads.

'Our water rescue unit officers dived more than 10 times into the muddy river, with limited vision in dark surroundings,' she said. Magistrate Suzana Mokhtar allowed Norshuhada, who was the commander of the operation, to read her statement after the brothers pleaded guilty to their charge. Norshuhada said the actions of the brothers had caused the government to bear losses in terms of assets and logistics, including the usage of rescue boats, operation machinery, diving gear, drones and fuel. 'What's worse is that the false report disrupted our operations which were supposed to be focused on a real case involving a victim that had fallen from the Sungai Gersik bridge on July 17. 'We are very disappointed to be used. It has affected the morale and team's credibility, as well as the faith in the public towards the department,' she added.

The drama unfolded on 22 July in Semporna, Sabah, when a group of tourists, including Taiwanese visitors, were heading to During the boat ride, an oxygen tank accidentally fell over due to the vessel's movement, striking the foot of a 38-year-old Malaysian diving instructor. That's when things went sideways. When Accidents Turn Ugly Instead of treating it as the accident it was, the instructor decided to make it everyone else's problem. After getting his injured foot treated at Tawau Hospital, he returned to the diving centre the next day, demanding compensation from the tourist whose equipment had fallen. What happened next was caught on camera and quickly went viral across social media platforms. The video shows the instructor confronting the tourists outside the Quality Diving Centre in Semporna. In the footage, you can see him slapping the foreign tourist while arguing with what appears to be a female companion. The entire exchange happens in Mandarin, with the slapped tourist asking someone off-camera, 'Did you call the police?' while the woman repeatedly asks the instructor, 'What does this have to do with us?' Staff members can be seen trying to intervene and separate the parties, but the damage was already done. The Diving Centre's Damage Control Quality Diving Centre quickly distanced itself from the instructor. In a lengthy Facebook statement posted the day after the incident, the company made it crystal clear: this guy wasn't even their employee. 'The instructor involved was not wearing a uniform and is not an employee of our company,' the diving centre stated, adding that all their actual staff wear uniforms. They detailed how they immediately tried to defuse the situation by separating the groups onto different boats and scheduling their return times at different intervals to avoid further conflict. The company also revealed that when the instructor showed up at their shop the morning after the boat incident, the owner, described as over 60 years old and not fluent in Malay, immediately tried to get him to leave. When the instructor refused and the assault occurred, the staff called the police. We strongly condemn acts of violence. If this had been our employee, they would have been immediately terminated. Police Step In Semporna police didn't mess around. Acting District Police Chief Deputy Superintendent Jaafar Hakim confirmed they received a report on 23 July at 10:46 AM about the assault and intimidation. The instructor was arrested and is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code (voluntarily causing hurt) and Section 506 (criminal intimidation). Police are calling for witnesses to come forward with any additional information about the incident.
