KPM prioritises education access in Sabah, says Fadhlina

"Sabah is always in KPM's heart. We are committed to addressing access issues and preventing dropouts," she said after attending Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka's 69th anniversary event on Saturday. To support this, KPM is working with the Defence Ministry (Mindef) through a special programme in Kampung Serudong Laut, Tawau, to build a school under the Jiwa Murni initiative. Although construction is still in planning, classes have already begun, with 20 to 30 students attending lessons led by rotating teachers from JPNS. Fadhlina said the area shows strong potential for educational infrastructure development, with ongoing efforts to collect data and ensure consistent student attendance. KUDAT: The Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) extended its electrical safety awareness initiative through engagement with community leaders from Mukim Dualog and Tiga Papan here. Its Chief Operating Officer Ridwan Saham said the programme is an ongoing initiative to reach out to communities, including rural areas, to share information and introduce ECoS' role in overseeing electricity supply and renewable energy. He pointed out the importance of using safety-certified domestic electrical equipment bearing ECoS-Sirim, Sirim-ST or Sirim-MUT labels to ensure user safety. The programme continues the awareness campaign previously held in other districts including Ranau, Keningau and Kota Belud. The Commission hopes community leaders will disseminate the shared information, thereby enhancing electrical safety and energy efficiency usage. Officially launched by Kudat District Officer Charles William Dabbi, the programme aims to provide exposure on electrical safety, efficient energy usage, compliance with the Electricity Supply Enactment 2024 and introduction to performance standards set by ECoS for Sabah Electricity through Guaranteed Service Level and Minimum Service Level requirements. In his opening speech, Charles said community leaders must stay current with developments, describing the programme as an important opportunity to enhance knowledge. Kota Kinabalu: A packed crowd of former King Scouts, scout leaders and scouts from all parts of Sabah were among 150 who showed up for 'BP SPIRIT Gathering Dinner at the Hakka Hall, Likas, Friday night. 'The gathering is a showcase on the solidarity and brotherhood of former scouts on all ranks and from all walks of life,' noted Agung (King) Scout and former Deputy President of Sabah Scout Council and lawyer, Datuk Daniel Tan Jui Peng. A video on Sabah Scouting History screened suggests the leadership impacts of the scouting movement dating back 1913, as former Chief Ministers Tan Sri Pairin Joseph Kitingan, Datuk Seri Panglima Yong Teck Lee were both scouts while Tan Sri Chong kah Kiat was King Scout. Expanding education to Sabah's rural areas

Its Minister, Fadhlina Sidek, said Sabah remains a priority in the implementation of national education policies and reforms. 'We are committed to addressing issues of access and ensuring no student is left behind,' she said, after attending the 69th anniversary celebration of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), Saturday. She said the Ministry is working closely with Ministry of Defence (Mindef) to expand educational access in the interior through a special programme in the state. 'A programme known as ProKhas has been launched in Kg Serudong Laut, Tawau, under Mindef's Jiwa Murni initiative. We're collaborating with Mindef to build a school in Kg Serudong Laut. This joint commitment aims to develop educational facilities in the area with full involvement from the local community,' she explained. Although the construction of the school is still in the planning stage, she said learning sessions have already begun to prevent children from falling behind. 'Reading classes are being conducted by a rotation of teachers provided by the Sabah State Education Department (JPNS). 'During our visit, around 20 to 30 pupils were already attending classes. We are now gathering data to determine the full number of students, with the aim of ensuring consistent attendance. The numbers are expected to increase over time,' she added. Fadhlina also expressed pride in Sabah's recent academic achievements in the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination. 'More than 146 students in Sabah scored a perfect CGPA of 4.0, this is a clear testament to the success of the education reforms we have put in place.
