Can Patrick Reed help 4Aces end long drought with a win in his home state of Texas?
But Reed has played better of late, and he came into this week's LIV Golf Dallas at Maridoe Golf Club in a good place after a top-25 finish at the U.S. Open at Oakmont. And the rest of the underperforming team, one that includes Dustin Johnson, Harold Varner III and Thomas Pieters, was also showing signs of trending upward.
So Reed had no worries about the side as it came to Texas, the state in which he lives.
"The team room has been fine. The golf aspect of it has just kind of been too up and down. You'll have one or two guys play really well one day and then one or two of the guys don't quite have it and then it flips the next day and things like that," Reed said on Friday. "I feel like right now the team is playing really solid. We know TP will bounce back. His game actually looks pretty solid for the most part.
"The biggest thing is keep the throttle down."
Reed, who shot a 67 in the opening round as did teammate Varner, did just that during Saturday's second round. He finished with 68 and the 4Aces look poised to return to the podium if they can manage their way through Sunday. The team holds a 4-stroke lead with one round to play.
"It would mean a lot, obviously, to win in your home state," Reed said. "But really to me, honestly, it doesn't matter where it is. Winning a golf tournament is winning a golf tournament. The adrenaline and that feeling of standing up on stage and hoisting that trophy is an amazing feeling. It doesn't really matter where you're at or anything like that.
"But doing it in my home state would be special for sure. But we've got a long way to go."

Giants Icon Lawrence Taylor Hit with Surprise Trash Talk By Michael Jordan
Giants Icon Lawrence Taylor Hit with Surprise Trash Talk By Michael Jordan originally appeared on Athlon Sports. In 1981, North Carolina defensive end Lawrence Taylor was leaving Chapel Hill to go to the NFL. Just that same year, a basketball player by the name of Michael Jordan stepped onto campus as freshman. Advertisement "LT" would go on to enjoy a 13-year NFL career with the New York Giants and become one of the greatest football players to ever play the game. Jordan, after leading the Tar Heels to a national championship that season, would join the Chicago Bulls a few years later and begin his own legendary career in the NBA. These two "GOATs" crossed paths again over the weekend. This time on the golf course. The two stopped, exchanged pleasantries, and ... in typical fashion, Jordan couldn't resist the urge to throw around a little trash talk. Jordan started the light-hearted kidding by dissing Taylor's "relaxed" outfit. Advertisement The two Tar Heel greats have remained close friends deep into their professional careers, so the surprise diss was met with a chorus of laughs from the group as Jordan's cart drove away. There aren't many people on this planet with the guts to talk down to Lawrence Taylor, but LT himself might give "Air Jordan" of all people a pass. After two Hall-of-Fame careers, it's all fun and games between the two greats of their sports. It's good to see neither one has lost their competitive edge. But their sportsmanship? We'll get back to you on that... Related: Why Are Giants In Headlines On Signing Odell Beckham Jr.? Gary Woodland named fifth U.S. Ryder Cup assistant captain for Bethpage
Jackson Koivun and Luke Clanton discuss their mindsets heading into the John Deere Classic, which will present a great opportunity to many young players in the field. FRISCO, Texas — Former U.S. Open champion Gary Woodland will make his first Ryder Cup appearance this year, announced Wednesday as the fifth and final assistant to U.S. captain Keegan Bradley for the matches at Bethpage Black. Woodland joins Jim Furyk, Brandt Snedeker, Kevin Kisner and Webb Simpson as U.S. assistants when the Americans try to win back the cup from Europe on Sept. 26-28. The assistants could take on extra significance this year as Bradley decides whether to be the first playing captain since 1963. Bradley won the Travelers Championship two weeks ago, giving him more wins in the last year than any American except Scottie Scheffler. Two months remain before the six players qualify, followed by six captain's picks. 'As a major champion and someone who is still competing at a high level, he is well aware of the demands of performing on golf's biggest stages,' Bradley said of Woodland, who won the 2019 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach. 'He will be a valuable leader for us over the coming months and throughout the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.' Woodland's lone experience in team matches was playing in the 2019 Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne, going 1-1-1 in another U.S. victory. Tiger Woods was a playing captain that year. The Kansas native is favorite among players and a recent winner of the PGA Tour Courage award for having a lesion removed from his brain in September 2023 on a tract that caused unfounded fears. Woodland was runner-up in the Houston Open this year and is No. 68 in the FedExCup.
