Disgruntled Cowboys Star Lands With NFC Contender in Recent Mock Trade

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. On Friday afternoon, the Dallas Cowboys became the biggest storyline in the NFL heading into the preseason. Amid the latest jaw-dropping developments, all eyes will now be on linebacker Micah Parsons. For months now, Parsons and the Cowboys have had ongoing discussions about a contract extension. Despite things appearing close to done at one point, the All-Pro linebacker still finds himself without a new deal. Following weeks of being in a standoff with the front office, things have reached a fever pitch. Not long after reports emerged that Parsons was considering requesting a trade, he made a post that sent shockwaves through the football world. In his elongated message, he stated he no longer wants to be in Dallas and that he requested the franchise send him somewhere new. He's in the prime of his career at 26 years old, and arguably one of the league's most impactful defensive talents. Parsons instantly raises any team's floor on that side of the field, and could the right group jump to contender status. In the midst of the discourse around Parsons' trade request, hypothetical frameworks for the Cowboys star began to surface. One scenario has him landing with the Detroit Lions in exchange for a plethora of draft picks. MICAH PARSONS TO THE DETROIT LIONS?! 🤯🦁 Is The Price TOO HIGH? — Woodward Sports Network (@woodwardsports) August 1, 2025 Over the past two years, the Lions have emerged as a viable contender in the NFC. Bringing in a player like Parsons would instantly shoot them to the top of the list of Super Bowl favorites in 2025. During an appearance on the Life in the Stands podcast earlier this year, he was asked where he'd like to see his son end up if he were traded. Among the handful of teams mentioned was the Lions. "My top three teams. Kansas City, Detroit, Pittsburgh," Parsons' father said. "Him and Hutchison together in Detroit, that'd be like cheating. I love it." Micah Parsons' Dad wouldn't mind seeing his son on the Detroit Lions 👀🦁 — Woodward Sports Network (@woodwardsports) August 1, 2025 Though Parsons requested a trade, it remains unclear if Jerry Jones and the Cowboys' front office will honor his wishes. Nonetheless, Dallas' tactics find them in a worst-case scenario with one of their top homegrown talents. For more Dallas Cowboys and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.

The streaming numbers are out for 'Happy Gilmore 2' and that's what we call a hole-in-one

The reviews on "Happy Gilmore 2" are mixed. The results are not. The sequel to Adam Sandler's 1996 comedy hit Netflix on July 25 and the numbers don't lie. According to Variety, 46.7 million viewers streamed the movie in just three days — making it the biggest U.S. opening weekend in Netflix history. It also hit a high-water mark for Sandler, who has been a key cog for the platform. The movie brings back Sandler in the lead role. Co-stars Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald are back to reprise their roles as Virginia Venit, a PGA Tour publicist-turned romantic interest for Happy, and cocky pro golfer Shooter McGavin, respectively. The film includes a ton of pro golfers making cameos as well, including Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Keegan Bradley, Rickie Fowler, Tony Finau, Collin Morikawa, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth and Will Zalatoris from the PGA Tour, as well as Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka from LIV Golf. Legends of the game make appearances, too, such as Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino and John Daly. When asked, McDonald said he loved meeting many of the players, but one two-time Masters champ stood out. "He's a good man, Bubba Watson. I have known a few of these golf legends and legends-in-training," McDonald said. "But seeing them one-on-one, it's like: 'Oh, my God, that's Rory McIlroy. That's Bryson DeChambeau. That's Scottie Scheffler.' It was mind-blowing for me. And I came in on my days off just to hang out with them."
