Family of two Iraqis killed in Turkey demand justice
Also in Middle East Turkish intel chief discusses PKK with Kurdish leaders in Erbil Syrian government under fire for arresting Kurdish journalist Ministry confirms two Iraqis killed in Turkey Yazidi young man rescued 11 years after ISIS captivity A+ A- ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The family of two Iraqi brothers who were fatally shot in southern Turkey last week demand their 'rights.' A suspect has been arrested but the family believes that five other people were involved. Iraqi brothers Yousef and Mohammed Rawe were fatally shot by a Turkish citizen in the southern province of Sanliurfa (Riha), Turkish media reported on Thursday. The motive for their killing remains unclear. The Iraqi foreign ministry confirmed the incident on Friday, adding that they are in contact with Ankara to 'preserve the rights of Iraqi citizens and maintain their dignity.' Rudaw visited the family of the murdered brothers in Mosul on Saturday. They said the brothers, aged 21 and 22, migrated to Turkey in 2014 when the Islamic State (ISIS) controlled swathes of Iraqi territory, rendering Mosul a stronghold. The Iraqi foreign ministry said in its statement that the main suspect was immediately arrested. However, the family told Rudaw that 'five other Turks helped him carry out the crime." Thuraya Qasim, the grandmother of the murdered brothers, who the family identified as Yousef and Mohammed Ahmed Daham, called on the Iraqi authorities to demand 'our rights.' She added that one of the victims was fasting when he was shot. According to the family's account, Yousef and Mohammed were working in a car workshop in Riha. They had repaired the Turkish customer's car but he refused to pay the fee. This caused an altercation between them and it turned deadly when the customer left and returned with a gun to kill the brothers with. Turkish authorities have yet to announce the results of their investigation. Abdul Razzaq Sayyid Ahmed, leader of the brothers' tribe in Mosul, told Rudaw that "because of an ordinary quarrel, the perpetrator drew his weapon and fired five shots at Youssef and seven shots at Mohammed, martyring them." Turkey is a popular tourism destination for Iraqis.

Yazidi young man rescued 11 years after ISIS captivity
Also in Middle East Turkish intel chief discusses PKK with Kurdish leaders in Erbil Syrian government under fire for arresting Kurdish journalist Family of two Iraqis killed in Turkey demand justice Ministry confirms two Iraqis killed in Turkey A+ A- ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A Yazidi man will be repatriated to his hometown of Shingal (Sinjar) in the coming days, nearly 11 years after being kidnapped by the Islamic State (ISIS), an informed source told Rudaw on Thursday. Speaking on the condition of anonymity, the source said that the 18-year-old Rawand N.H. was freed eight days ago in a 20-day operation. He is currently in the Kurdish-held northeast Syria (Rojava) and is expected to be reunited with family on Sunday. He was freed in Syria's Idlib province. It remains unclear who was involved in the operation. From Rawand's family, 77 people were kidnapped by ISIS, of whom 38 have been freed so far, according to the source. During its 2014 assault on Shingal, ISIS abducted 6,417 Yazidi women and children, many of whom were subjected to sexual slavery and forced labor. Although the group was territorially defeated in Iraq by 2017 and in Syria by 2019, it continues to pose a security threat in the region. The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced in April that they had rescued another Yazidi man. As of now, nearly 2,600 Yazidis remain missing, according to the Office of Rescuing Abducted Yazidis, which is affiliated with the Kurdistan Region Presidency. Iraq probes attacks on Kirkuk Airport, Baiji refinery
Shafaq News – Baghdad/Erbil/Kirkuk/Saladin Iraqi security authorities have launched an official investigation into coordinated attacks that struck Kirkuk International Airport and the Baiji oil refinery late Monday, amid rising concern over the security of strategic infrastructure in northern Iraq. A senior security source told Shafaq News that top-level directives were issued to form a high-ranking committee tasked with uncovering the origin and trajectory of the projectiles and drone involved in the two incidents. The investigation will focus on determining whether the attacks were linked and identifying the parties responsible. The Kirkuk airport was hit by three projectiles. Early reports suggested a civilian sustained a minor injury, but officials later confirmed that the airport's infrastructure remained fully functional. Kirkuk Governor Rebwar Taha confirmed the formation of a local investigative committee and linked the attack to a recent counterterrorism operation. 'The strike came after our security forces successfully eliminated several ISIS members on the outskirts of Kirkuk.' Simultaneously, Iraqi air defenses downed an unidentified drone flying at low altitude near the Baiji oil refinery in Saladin province. No casualties or damage were reported. Security forces and engineering units from Iraq's National Security Service were dispatched to the site to analyze the drone's type and point of origin. The dual attacks prompted heightened security measures at vital installations across northern Iraq, with military units reinforcing protective deployments at energy and aviation facilities.
