Rupert Everett 'fired' from Emily in Paris
The actor will not be appearing in the fifth season of the hit Netflix series and claimed he spent "weeks" in bed after learning he'd been "fired".
"I was fired," he told Vanity Fair Italia at the Marateale Film Festival in Italy.
Rupert, 66, who played Italian interior designer Giorgio Barbieri in a single episode of the show's fourth season, explained he had hoped his character would return for a bigger role in season five, but it was not to be.
"I did a scene in the latest season, and they told me, 'Next year we'll speak,'" he said. "I waited for them to call me - but ultimately, it never came, and they just fired me."
Reflecting on the impermanent nature of the entertainment industry, Rupert admitted he had struggled emotionally with the lack of interest from the Emily in Paris production team.
"Show business is always very difficult, from the beginning to the end. When they write the screenplay, they think they want you - but then things change, and they lose your character. I don't know why," he shared.
"For me, it was a tragedy. I was in bed for two weeks because I couldn't get over it."

First Day of Camp attempts to recapture the magic of that original film and succeeds to a larger extent than you might expect. Eminem's Cameo in 'Happy Gilmore 2' Gets Mixed Reactions
Happy Gilmore 2 has officially been released on Netflix on Friday, giving fans the sequel they've been waiting for since the original film was released in 1996. The movie, which of course stars Adam Sandler as Happy Gilmore, is chock full of celebrity cameos throughout the film, with countless professional athletes and even rappers making appearances. Included in the latter group is rap legend Eminem, who plays the role of the son of the heckler from the original movie played by the late Joe Flaherty. Here's a look at a clip of Eminem's cameo, and we present it with the obvious spoiler alert if you haven't seen the movie yet. Eminem's cameo includes multiple references to the infamous heckler from Happy Gilmore. Not only does Eminem's character call Gilmore a "jackass" while heckling him, he also says his father is "in the great Sizzler in the sky," which is a shoutout to the OG Gilmore heckler's love for the restaurant. While the nostalgia in the scene was fun to watch, Eminem's appearance drew mixed reviews overall. "He is actually a good actor," one reply to the clip said of Eminem. "Hahahaa that's actually quite funny, gotta watch it now," another fan said. "This is why it didn't go to theaters," a negative review said. "Looks so bad," someone else wrote. "Marshall doesn't show up as himself; he fully commits to the bit, playing a hyped-up, unpredictable character that channels all the manic energy that fans love in Slim Shady. It's ridiculous, it's physical, and it's very, very funny," wrote. During an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show, Sandler revealed he was hesitant at first to ask Eminem to play a role in the movie, but the rapper ultimately was on board with it when Sandler brought up the idea. 'I love Eminem. I'm friends with Eminem. But I don't wanna bother the man,' Sandler told Patrick. 'And everybody kept saying, 'Man, Eminem would be so funny in this part,' and I was like, 'I don't want to ruin this guy's time.'" 'Alright, let me bug Marshall," Sandler finally conceded. "I gave him a call and said, 'Dude, I know it's a pain in the ass, but it's pretty funny. Could you shoot with us for a day?' And he was like, 'Yeah, yeah, send me the stuff.'' Reviews for Happy Gilmore 2 have already begun pouring in. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the film is sporting a 71% "Popcornmeter" score and has 3.7 out of five stars.
