Top three most expensive cars in the world
Only a select few can afford them, and even fewer get the chance to own one. If you've ever wondered what the most expensive cars in the world are, here's a look at the top three currently redefining automotive exclusivity.Price: $18.7 million (est)
Unveiled in 2019, the Bugatti La Voiture Noire is a truly one-of-a-kind bespoke commission. It was designed in tribute to the missing fourth Type 57 SC Atlantic for Bugatti's 110th anniversary and is one of the rarest and most expensive cars ever built.
Its name translates to "the Black Car," which reflects its deep black carbon fiber body, seamlessly sculpted to create a flowing, aerodynamic design. Every aspect of the car is handcrafted, with a monocoque chassis made from high-grade carbon fiber and a deep gloss black finish highlighting its sculpted exterior.
The La Voiture Noire features an 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine that generates a whopping 1,479 horsepower and 1,180 lb-ft of torque, which enables the car to deliver breathtaking acceleration and top-tier performance. It has an estimated top speed of 260+ mph and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 2.4 seconds.

While mechanically similar to the Chiron, the La Voiture Noire prioritizes grand touring comfort over outright speed records. Its six exhaust tips, centrally mounted in homage to the legendary Type 57, further enhance its aggressive aesthetic. The extended wheelbase and handcrafted details reinforce its luxury status.
The front features Bugatti's signature horseshoe grille integrated seamlessly into the La Voiture Noire's elongated nose, while the headlights stretch along the fenders, adding to its futuristic appeal.
The rear is dominated by a full-length LED taillight strip and the aforementioned six-exhaust-pipe layout. We don't know much about the interior, but given Bugatti's standards, it likely features the highest levels of craftsmanship. The identity of the owner remains unknown, though speculation suggests it belongs to Ferdinand Piëch, the former chairman of Volkswagen Group.2. Rolls-Royce Boat Tail
Price: $28 million
The Rolls-Royce Boat Tail takes its inspiration from the legendary 1932 model, which was designed with the luxury J-class yachts of the 1920s in mind. The current Boat Tail marked the automaker's return to coachbuilt customization in 2018, with three similar but not identical examples. The three share a chassis and 563 hp twin-turbo V12 engine with the Rolls-Royce Phantom. It has a top speed of about 155 mph and can reach zero to 60 mph in about 5 seconds.
With over 1,800 bespoke parts, each example features a parasol that extends from the rear deck, cocktail tables with matching seats, a complete set of Christofle tableware, and two refrigerators.

All models appear to have been spoken for. The first Boat Tail to be released is said to belong to Jay-Z and Beyonce and while they haven't confirmed this, there are a few hints to suggest that's the case. The car is blue and features a matching pair of men's and women's luxury watches from Bovet Fleurier, as well as Armand de Brignac champagne in its fridge. Jay-Z had previously invested $600 million in the brand that he co-owns with LM.
The second Boat Tail was commissioned by the son of an anonymous pearling magnate for his father. It features a pearlescent exterior and an accented mother-of-pearl interior. Like the blue Boat Tail, its trunk opens from centrally mounted hatches, revealing walnut trim and a picnic set complete with a parasol. An anonymous owner purchased the third Boat Tail, but details have yet to be revealed.Price: $30 million (est.)
The Rolls-Royce La Rose Noire Droptail is the most expensive new vehicle. Inspired by the Black Baccara rose, the design holds significance for the commissioning couple, who had a hand in its creation but remain anonymous.
This coach-built masterpiece debuted in 2023 as the first of four commissioned Droptails. Its parquetry—a staple in many Rolls—Royce designs—is the most complex to date for the car company, with more than 1,600 hand-finished and hand-placed wood pieces assembled over two years.
Made from steel, aluminum, and carbon fiber, the Droptail is finished in a newly developed color, True Love red, with dark accents of the accompanying Mystery hue to capture the feel of the Baccara's rich, velvet-like petals.
The paint process required over 150 iterations and was layered with a complex technique of transparent lacquers to create a pearlescent shimmer. The front grille, detailed with hand-painted accents, and stunning 22-inch alloy wheels accented in Mystery paint further emphasize the car's striking presence.
The interior of the La Rose Noire Droptail features French-sourced Black Sycamore wood that forms an abstract design of falling rose petals. The interior also features a mix of the aforementioned colors in leather, adding a textured, pearlescent finish. According to the automaker, the craftsmanship is so intricate that the artisan responsible for its creation worked in silence for weeks at a time. The Rose Noire Droptail also incorporates an exclusive, removable Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept timepiece, specially designed to match the car's color scheme. The owners also commissioned a bespoke champagne chest tailored to house their special edition Champagne de Lossy. It, too, has matching rose petal parquetry and features an integrated cooling system, hand-blown crystal glasses, and custom thermal champagne coolers.
The Droptail is about 10 inches shorter than the Rolls Royce Ghost. Its extreme luxury doesn't detract from its considerable power, as its 6.7-liter V-12 engine cranks out 593 horsepower and 620 pound-feet of torque through either an 8-speed automatic or manual transmission. Rolls-Royce claims a top speed of 155 mph and a 0 to 60 mph time of 4.8 seconds.
The La Rose Noire Droptail is the first of four unique commissions. The second, Amethyst, is designed with the birthstone of the owner's son in mind. The third, the Arcadia, is named after the pastoral paradise in Greek mythology. While Rolls-Royce isn't forthcoming about their prices, it's believed they are in the same range, if not more.

Whether they end up in private collections or occasionally hit the road, these three vehicles are rolling works of art pushing the boundaries of luxury and engineering. Most of us will never get behind the wheel of one, but it's fun to imagine what we would do if we owned one and what it would feel like to take one for a spin.

One-Off Rolls-Royce Phantom Dentelle Draws Inspiration From A Machine Invented In 1813
Rolls-Royce has just unveiled a new one-off creation based on its biggest sedan. Called the Phantom Dentelle, the unique build was commissioned by a Dubai-based customer who wanted to give their father a gift they couldn't get anywhere else. The car is described as "an homage to the exquisite handmade lace used in some of the world's leading haute couture ateliers, specifically lace made using a rare Leavers loom." This machine was first made in 1813, and from 1841, it was capable of making lace with pattern, net, and outline. Finding one is extremely unusual because the cost of producing one is not typically justified by the money that can be made from its products, so it's an ideal source of inspiration for a one-off RR. The Phantom's 'Gallery,' or dashboard, features a floral composition inspired by lace, with the embroidery layers using multiple stitching techniques, thread densities, and tones, including Rose Gold, Sunrise, and Oatmeal. It's a highly complex process that requires extremely fine craftsmanship, but the end result looks multi-dimensional and realistically evokes images of petals, ferns, and, of course, lacework. In total, this piece alone is made up of over 160,000 stitches. A similar floral theme appears on the 'Waterfall,' or rear-seat center console, and this took another 70,000 stitches or so. With Sunrise and Grace White leathers offset by Rose Gold speaker grilles and Piano White veneers, it's a special place to sit, but not one you'd want to eat a chocolate ice cream in. As a one-off, the Phantom Dentelle wears paint from Rolls-Royce's Bespoke department. The two-tone finish comprises Crystal over Arctic White paint for the lower half of the body and Crystal over Palais Nemasker Dawn for the top, with the latter color exclusively available to the commissioning customer - no matter how deep your pockets are, this color will never be repeated for anyone else. A final flourish to the body is the hand-painted double coachline in Sunrise, which includes a motif of a leafy branch with pearl 'berries.' Of course, the Pantheon grille couldn't be left unaltered on a project such as this, so it's been polished and topped with a Rose Gold Spirit of Ecstasy mascot. The same metal is found in the engraved treadplates, while the wheels are 22-inch fully polished disc wheels with body-colored centers with Arctic White pinstripes. Overall, it's certainly a unique look that won't necessarily have broad appeal, but that is partly the point with rare commissions. Rolls-Royce's Bespoke department says inspiration can come from anywhere, so if you have the scratch, Goodwood's artistes can bring your vision to life, too. Bugatti Drives Your Hypercar to 186 MPH Before Delivery
The Chiron era may be coming to an end, but Bugatti still has interesting details to share about the Mistral, the last of the W-16 breed. The 8.0-liter, quad-turbo machine broke cover three years ago as a €5 million roadster limited to 99 units, all of which were sold before the official premiere. Deliveries to customers didn't begin until last February, and now we're learning more about what happens from the moment the car is built until it's delivered to its rightful owner. Each Mistral undergoes rigorous testing for at least 248.5 miles (400 kilometers) to ensure everything is up to spec. If any issues are discovered, the car returns to the shop to sort out 'any irregularities, regardless of how minor.' It then heads back on the road for an additional 31 miles (50 kilometers), or more if needed. But that's not the most interesting part. Photo by: Bugatti Even before the owner sets foot inside the hypercar, Bugatti pushes the Mistral to 186 mph (300 km/h). It's part of a testing procedure to verify the ESP and ABS systems during emergency braking. As you can imagine, this isn't done on public roads. The company utilizes a section of an airfield at Colmar Airport in northeastern France. But the Mistral is capable of much more at full tilt. Last year, it reached 282 mph (453.9 km/h) at the Papenburg test track in Germany, making it the world's fastest open-top car. That's actually faster than Bugatti initially claimed, as the Chiron roadster was said to top out at 261 mph (420 km/h). Its predecessor, the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse, could 'only' hit 254 mph (408.8 km/h). Fun fact: the Mistral's top speed is only achievable with the roof removed. Bugatti's test drive involves far more than going fast and slamming on the brakes. From the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to the removable roof mechanism, everything is thoroughly evaluated. Only three people are qualified to test the Mistral before it's handed over to its owner. Bugatti Mistral test drive before delivery 13 Source: Bugatti As one era draws to a close, another is about to begin. Bugatti will start Tourbillon deliveries in 2026, strictly as a coupe, though a follow-up roadster seems like an educated guess. The Chiron's successor might be even faster, as company CEO Mate Rimac has hinted that with the right tires, the new V-16 hypercar could break the 500 km/h barrier. That's 310.6 mph . It's not just Tesla — Rivian's deliveries were down last quarter, too
Rivian Automotive reported its 2025 second-quarter production and delivery results. Rivian produced 5,979 vehicles and delivered 10,661 vehicles this quarter, a year-over-year decline from Q2 2024. Tesla's deliveries also dropped in Q2, just missing analysts' expectations. It's not just Tesla. Rivian Automotive's Q2 deliveries were also down. The company shared its production and delivery results on Wednesday. It delivered 10,661 vehicles in the quarter ending on June 30. That's a noticeable drop compared to the same time last year, when Rivian delivered 13,790 vehicles. Reuters reported a 22% decline. Its stock dipped on Wednesday and closed down 4.45%. The company shared that it produced 5,979 vehicles at its Illinois-based manufacturing facility during the last quarter. The company produced 9,612 vehicles during the same time in 2024. "Production was limited during the second quarter in preparation for model year 2026 vehicles expected to launch later this month," the company said on Wednesday. "Production and delivery results for the quarter are in line with Rivian's outlook." Rivian said it received a $1 billion equity investment from Volkswagen Group as part of a joint venture between the two companies. Tesla, led by Elon Musk, also shared delivery numbers on Wednesday. The company delivered 384,000 electric vehicles during its second quarter, which missed Wall Street analysts' expectations. It marks the largest quarterly decline in pure numbers in Tesla's history. The electric vehicle industry faces headwinds as it navigates consumers' uncertainty and the fallout from President Donald Trump's tariffs. Tariffs and consumer concerns aren't the only obstacles that could trip up the electric vehicle industry. Trump's domestic tax and spending bill would also affect the clean energy sector. The bill, if passed and signed into law, could end the $7,500 EV tax credit on new leases and electric vehicle sales by the end of September, according to Reuters. Although Rivian didn't qualify for the tax credit, the company relied on a leasing loophole to utilize it. The potential loss of the tax credit could impact companies like Tesla, though. Representatives for Rivian did not respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.
