DIMO Partners with Grupo Kaufmann to Power the Future of Connected Cars in Latin America

NEW YORK and SANTIAGO, Chile, June 04, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- DIMO, a leading connected vehicle platform, today announced a first-of-its-kind strategic partnership with Grupo Kaufmann, one of Latin America's largest automotive dealership networks. With headquarters in Chile and operations spanning six countries, the company is renowned for its commitment to innovation in the automotive industry. Through this partnership, DIMO and Kaufmann are working to redefine the connected car experience for auto dealerships throughout Latin America.
In 2024, an estimated 1.7 million connected cars were projected to be sold across Latin America—a relatively small share of the region's total annual vehicle sales. This gap reflects limited connectivity adoption, driven by the historically high cost of building top-down infrastructure, which has caused many automakers to deprioritize the region. Kaufmann aims to close this gap by leveraging DIMO's standardized connectivity infrastructure to develop interoperable apps and services across automakers. This will bring scalable, affordable innovation to the Latin American market.
Initially, Kaufmann will deploy DIMO LTE devices for data collection and product development. After integration, it will offer customers a unique set of connected services, such as real-time diagnostics, customized maintenance alerts and rewards-based loyalty programs, further raising the standard of expertise and service excellence.
At the core of this partnership is DIMO's transformative data model. Built with a privacy-first approach, the DIMO protocol streamlines vehicle data connectivity with user consent, enabling Kaufmann to deliver data-driven services far more cost-effectively than developing these systems in-house. With the driver's consent, Kaufmann will gain access to real-time vehicle data. This data unlocks performance insights, personalized service recommendations, and timely outreach - laying the foundation for a proactive customer-first dealership experience. The DIMO protocol ensures drivers maintain full control over their data - fostering trust while delivering mutual value to both consumers and dealerships.
'Grupo Kaufmann recognizes that the future of connected vehicle services will be shaped by a new generation of apps and services designed for a digitally native audience,' said Alex Rawitz, Co-founder of DIMO. 'The world's new car owners want more than utilities — they want games, social experiences, rewards, and more we've yet to imagine. With DIMO's infrastructure, Kaufmann can serve as the conduit for this creative energy, delivering next-generation experiences to drivers across Latin America.'
As the global automotive industry accelerates toward connected, digital-first experiences, Kaufmann is taking the lead in Latin America. Its partnership with DIMO reflects a long-term strategy to lead through innovation and sustainability, while transforming the dealership into a hub for lifelong mobility services.
'At Grupo Kaufmann, we believe the future of the automotive industry in Latin America will be defined by the ability to turn data into meaningful experiences for our customers. Our partnership with DIMO accelerates this vision by enabling efficient, secure, and scalable vehicle connectivity. It's a key step in our digitalization strategy to position Kaufmann as a regional leader in smart mobility solutions,' said Carlos De Martini, Corporate Digital Business Manager, Grupo Kaufmann.

The reverse migration: African Americans relocating to Kenya cite heritage and restoration

'I can't say the administration is the reason why the people I know want to part ways from America. Some are planning to move for a better quality of living life,' Harris said. Auston Holleman, an American YouTuber who has lived in various countries for almost a decade, said he settled on Kenya nine months ago because people 'look like me.' 'It is not like going to Europe or going to some Latin American countries where there are not many Black people,' he said. Holleman, who often films his daily life, said he felt that the social fabric in the U.S. was 'broken.' In contrast, he said he felt socially accepted in Kenya. He cited an experience when his taxi driver's car stopped, and in five minutes they got help from a random stranger. 'That made me realize I was in the right place,' he said. Other African countries have attracted even larger numbers of African Americans. Ghana, which launched a 'Year of the Return' program to attract the Black diaspora in 2019, said last year it held a ceremony that granted citizenship to 524 people, mostly Black Americans. African American businesses such as Adilah Relocation Services have seen a notable rise in the number of African Americans seeking to move to Kenya. The company's founder, Adilah Mohammad, moved to Kenya four days after her mother's funeral in search of healing. She says the peace and restoration she experienced in Kenya made her stay — and advocate for those searching for the same. Her company helps clients relocate by house hunting, shopping for furniture and ensuring banking and medical services are seamless. 'There are 15 families that have come so far, and we have five more on the calendar that are coming in the next 90 days. We have people that have booked for 2026 with no date, they just know that they are leaving,' she says. Mohammad said many African Americans have been planning their move for decades. 'For me it is a movement. It is people deciding to make a choice for themselves, they are not being forced, shackles are being broken. When they say they are coming home, they are choosing to be free and it is mental freedom and so I am ecstatic,' she says. Experts say African economies are likely to benefit from these moves, especially from those willing to tackle corruption and create a healthy environment for investors. Raphael Obonyo, a public policy expert at U.N-Habitat, says the U.S is losing resources — as well as the popular narrative that America is the land of opportunities and dreams. 'This reverse migration is denting that narrative, so America is most likely to lose including things like brain drain,' he explained. For Mohammad, the sense of belonging has given her peace within. 'I love being here. Returning to Africa is one thing, but finding the place that you feel like you belong is another,' she said.

IMF reaches staff-level agreement for $2 billion disbursement to Argentina

(Refiles to correct day of week to Thursday in last paragraph) (Reuters) -The International Monetary Fund said on Thursday it has reached a staff-level agreement on the first review of its extended fund facility with Argentina, potentially unlocking about $2 billion for the economically embattled Latin American nation. The executive board meeting for the review, part of Argentina's $20 billion loan program with the lender, is expected to take place later this month, the IMF said in a statement. The IMF said the program had started off strongly "despite a more challenging external backdrop," with Argentina's inflation and poverty coming down while growth has ticked up. "Notably, Argentina has re-accessed international capital markets earlier than anticipated," the IMF added. The lender said agreements had been reached with Argentina on safeguarding its fiscal anchor, building up reserves and making the drop in inflation last. In the wake of the $20 billion, 48-month deal Argentina reached with the IMF in April, the country has loosened years-long controls that restricted access to foreign currency and has let the peso fluctuate within a moving band. Analysts say the country's economic growth is expected to moderate in the coming months due to the uncertainty around Argentina's upcoming midterm elections. The agreement with the IMF came with metrics to unlock funds, including on inflation and building up depleted central bank foreign currency reserves, something Argentina has struggled with. 'With the fund we have no problem,' said Economy Minister Luis Caputo in remarks to the press earlier on Thursday. 'Of course, we're working to reconstruct the level of reserves.'
