Contractor to pay 10L for flooding at Metro stn
The flooding, which brought Metro Line 3 services to a halt, was triggered by a breach in a temporary cement precast wall — part of a fire barrier at Entry/Exit B2 — allowing rainwater and debris to gush into the station's concourse and platform areas. The water damaged architectural interiors and seeped into sensitive systems — signalling, telecom, electrical, and the station control room.
An RTI query filed by activist Anil Galgali unearthed these details, including a show-cause notice issued by chief project manager-1 Rajesh Kumar Mittal to the contractor. Metro authorities termed it a "freak incident" and confirmed that the contractor carried out all repair work within five days. No action is being considered against officials or other agencies involved.

23 Naxals with cumulative bounty of ₹1.18 cr surrender in Chhattisgarh
As many as 23 hardcore Naxalites, including three couples, carrying a cumulative bounty of Rs 1.18 crore, surrendered in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Saturday, a senior police official said. The surrendered Naxalites include 11 senior cadres, most of them active in the Peoples' Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) battalion no.1, which is considered the strongest military formation of Maoists, the official said. They turned themselves in before senior police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officials, citing their disappointment with "hollow" Maoist ideology, atrocities committed by Naxalites on innocent tribals and growing internal differences within the banned outfit, Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan said. He said there were nine women among surrendered cadres. The official said Lokesh alias Podiam Bhima (35), Ramesh alias Kalmu Kesa (23), Kawasi Masa (35), Madkam Hunga (23), Nuppo Gangi (28), Punem Deve (30), Paraski Pandey (22), Madvi Joga (20), Nuppo Lachchu (25), Podiam Sukhram (24) and Dudhi Bheema carried a reward of Rs 8 lakh each. "Lokesh was a divisional committee member, and eight others were members of the PLGA battalion no.1 formation of Maoists. The development shows that this battalion is weakening, and its members have been continuously quitting Naxalism due to intensified anti-Naxal operations being carried out by security forces on the Sukma-Bijapur inter-district border," Chavan said. Four other cadres carried a bounty of Rs 5 lakh each, one cadre Rs 3 lakh and seven cadres Rs 1 lakh each, he said. The official said some of the surrendered Naxalities were active in the Aamdai, Jagargunda and Kerlapal area committees of Maoists. All the surrendered Naxalites were provided assistance of Rs 50,000 each and will be further rehabilitated as per the government's policy, he added. On Friday, 22 Naxalites, who were active in the Abhujmad area and carried a collective bounty of Rs 37.5 lakh, surrendered in Narayanpur district. Fraudsters allegedly misuse Poshan Tracker data to target Matru Vandana beneficiaries in Mangaluru
'The pregnant and lactating women are receiving calls from unknown numbers, often impersonating officials from the concerned department. The criminals falsely claim that the beneficiaries can avail of Rs 12,000 to Rs 20,000 under the Matru Vandana scheme of the Union Government, while the actual amount provided is only up to Rs 6,000. Sensitive user information on the app is stolen by the fraudsters. These fraudsters speak in Hindi and have complete details of the beneficiaries, including the names of Anganwadi teachers," she added "To avail the financial assistance, the fraudsters ask the beneficiaries to pay some processing fee. The beneficiaries are now doubting us of having a nexus with the scam, as fraudsters also ask them to pay some amount to the Anganwadi teachers to avail the scheme,' she added. She added that they have received complaints from at least eight beneficiaries. One beneficiary of the Matru Vandana scheme said that she received a call from an unknown number and was sent a link to make a payment. 'When I paid the amount as asked, the remaining balance of ₹44,000 in my bank account was stolen,' alleged the victim. The fraudsters are also misleading the victims into believing that they must maintain a minimum balance in their bank accounts to avail the scheme. Ashalatha said they are educating the beneficiaries not to respond to such fraudulent calls and to report suspicious activities immediately. 'We have brought the issue to the notice of the local police and the Department of Women and Child Welfare,' she added.

Religious conversions a deep conspiracy, won't be tolerated: CM Yogi
Lucknow, July 12 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday, described illegal religious conversions a calculated conspiracy to undermine the nation's identity and social fabric, asserting that the Uttar Pradesh government is taking firm action to curb the menace. 'Some forces are deliberately trying to alter the fundamental character of the country through unlawful conversions. This is an attack on social cohesion and cannot be tolerated under any circumstances,' said the Chief Minister while addressing the flagging-off ceremony of Shri Tegh Bahadur Sandesh Yatra. The ceremony was held at his official residence and dedicated to the 350th Shaheedi Varsh of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji Maharaj. CM Yogi underlined that marginalised communities, particularly Scheduled Castes, are being lured, or coerced into, changing their religion. He emphasised that such acts go against the spirit of the Constitution and the principle of social equality. At the event, the Chief Minister welcomed and honoured the Sandesh Yatra by showering flower petals. The Yatra, which commenced from Lucknow, will pass through Kanpur, Etawah, and Agra before culminating at Chandni Chowk and the historic Sis Ganj Gurudwara in Delhi—the site of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji's martyrdom. A commemorative memento was also presented to the Chief Minister to mark the occasion. During his address, he highlighted the recent Balrampur case, where a large-scale illegal conversion racket backed by foreign funding was unearthed. He revealed that over Rs 100 crore was found transacted across 40 accounts, with pre-determined 'rates' for conversion. He termed this a grave threat to both economic and social security. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the 350-year-old legacy of martyrdom is being revived through this yatra, serving as a powerful reminder of the oppressive era under Aurangzeb's rule. He noted that the Mughal ruler sought to suppress Sanatan Dharma and impose Islamic dominance. 'In the face of tyranny, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji chose martyrdom over compromise, standing firm on the path of righteousness,' the Chief Minister remarked. "His martyrdom continues to inspire future generations with its message of unwavering faith and courage. The entire yatra is rooted in the tradition of sacrifice and resilience. As we commemorate Shaheedi Diwas, we are reminded of the immense struggles and sacrifices that paved the way for India to emerge as a free and strong nation," he added. CM Yogi stressed the need to preserve the legacy of sacrifice set by Sikh Gurus and to resist attempts to divide Hindus and Sikhs. 'Such conspiracies have been attempted before and will continue to surface, but we must remain vigilant and united,' he said. He stated that the Shaheedi Diwas inspires people to carry forward the Gurus' legacy and adapt it to modern-day strategies to ensure no community or individual is ever forced to abandon their culture or religion. Referring to national celebrations such as the 550th Prakash Parv and the Veer Bal Diwas, the CM acknowledged the central government's efforts to elevate these observances to national prominence. He also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for officially declaring December 26 as Veer Bal Diwas, in honour of the martyrdom of the Sahibzadas. UNI MBD RKM
