Krishna water released into SRBC from Banakacherla Complex

Giving a major boost to the irrigation sector in the Rayalaseema region, Minister for Roads & Buildings B.C. Janardhan Reddy on Friday released the Krishna waters from the Banakacherla Complex into the Srisailam Right Branch Canal (SRBC). Mr. Janardhan Reddy was at Banakacherla of Nandyal district along with Srisailam MLA Budda Rajasekhar Reddy and Nandikotkur MLA Gitta Jayasurya. They performed special puja to the river before officially releasing the water into the SRBC. Addressing a public gathering, Mr. Janardhan Reddy observed that heavy rains upstream brought healthy inflows into the Krishna, terming it 'positive development for the Rayalaseema region.' Highlighting the efforts of the NDA government in developing irrigation infrastructure, Mr. Janardhan Reddy said several key projects conceptualised during the earlier TDP term and the present regime were being executed. The government started delivering the promises to the drought-hit Rayalaseema region, he added. 'We are also committed to providing the Krishna waters to the Chittoor and Kadapa districts, covering even the last acre,' he said. Referring to the Gorukalva project, he said it remained a mere dream under the previous government, but became a reality during 2014–19 when the TDP was in power, which allocated ₹300 crore for its completion. 'This project's storage capacity is being enhanced from 6 tmc ft to 12 tmc ft, leading to an extensive distribution network,' the Minister said. Envisaging plans to route the Krishna waters from Gorukalva through the Galeru-Nagari Sujala Sravanti (GNSS) network, the Minister said it would supply water to the regions such as Owk in Nandyal and Pulivendula in Kadapa districts. 'Repairs at ₹2.35 crore have been undertaken on the Gorukalva reservoir. Another ₹22 crore has been sanctioned for canal expansion and maintenance. Instead of contractors, the projects are being handled directly by the government engineers to ensure high quality, transparency and accountability,' he said. Mr. Jagandhan Reddy criticised the YSRCP government for failing to secure funds for the irrigation projects, particularly in the Rayalaseema region. He urged the officials and Water User Associations to step up awareness among the farmers for prudential use of the water.

With ‘Sadhana Samavesha', CM ‘threatening' Congress high command, alleges Vijayendra

Karnataka BJP president B.Y. Vijayendra on Friday alleged that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would be conducting the 'Sadhana Samavesha' in Mysuru on Saturday in order to 'threaten' the Congress high command. Speaking to reporters in Mysuru, he said the CM is on the verge of tendering his resignation, and therefore he has planned the convention to 'threaten' the party leadership. 'Whenever there is a threat to his position, Mr. Siddaramaiah remembers the AHINDA communities. When the BJP took out a padayatra over the MUDA scam, he held conventions here and in other places,' Mr. Vijayendra said. The BJP State president accused the Chief Minister of organising the 'Sadhana Samavesha' just to save his chair. 'He keeps praising AHINDA communities, but today, his mask has fallen. He has failed to deliver justice to them. Mr. Siddaramaiah has no commitment or concern for their development,' he alleged. Predicting a significant political development in November, Mr. Vijayendra, while replying to questions on the leadership change in the State, said Congress leaders are themselves saying that there is a 'power-sharing agreement' between Mr. Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar in regard to the Chief Minister's post. Now, the situation has arisen where Mr. Siddaramaiah has to resign, he claimed. Alleging that the State administrative machinery has collapsed, he said that the government has achieved nothing over the last two-and-half years, and claimed that the people are frustrated over the administration. 'Why are they holding the 'Samavesha' when they have achieved nothing?' he asked.

PM Modi launches ₹5,400 crore development projects in West Bengal

Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several development projects worth ₹5,400 crore in Durgapur, West Bengal. These projects span sectors like oil & gas, power, road, and rail. 'The projects launched today will enhance connectivity in the region and boost gas-based transport and the gas-based economy and reinforce Durgapur's identity as a Steel City," he said, according to a press statement. Among the key projects, the PM laid the foundation stone for Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd (BPCL)'s City Gas Distribution (CGD) project in the Bankura and Purulia districts, valued at approximately ₹1,950 crore. This project aims to provide Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connections to households, commercial establishments, and industrial customers, while also establishing Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) retail outlets, thereby generating employment in the region. Further bolstering energy infrastructure, PM Modi launched the Durgapur to Kolkata section of the Durgapur-Haldia Natural Gas Pipeline, an integral part of the flagship Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga (PMUG) Project. This crucial 132-kilometer pipeline, worth over ₹1,190 crore, traverses through Purba Bardhman, Hooghly, and Nadia districts. The Prime Minister said, 'the pipeline provided significant direct and indirect employment during its construction phase and will now facilitate the supply of natural gas to lakhs of households across the region.' All-round development In a push for cleaner energy production, PM Modi inaugurated Pollution Control Systems, specifically flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) units, at both the Durgapur Steel Thermal Power Station and Raghunathpur Thermal Power Station of Damodar Valley Corporation. These systems, developed at a cost of over ₹1,457 crore, are expected to drastically reduce emissions, supporting cleaner energy generation and creating employment opportunities within the region. For rail infrastructure, PM Modi announced the doubling of the 36-kilometer Purulia – Kotshila Rail Line in Purulia, an investment exceeding ₹390 crore. This project is vital for improving rail connectivity, linking industrial hubs like Jamshedpur, Bokaro, and Dhanbad with Ranchi and Kolkata. It is expected to facilitate more efficient movement of goods trains, reduce travel time, and significantly improve logistics for industries and businesses in the area. Additionally, he inaugurated two new Road Over Bridges (ROBs) constructed under the Setu Bharatam Programme , totaling over ₹380 crore. Located at Topsi and Pandabeshwar in Paschim Bardhaman, these ROBs are designed to enhance connectivity and prevent accidents at railway level crossings.
