Man duped by 'Jennifer Aniston' in 'deepfake' romance scam

Paul Davies from Southampton believed he was chatting to the Friends star. A devastated Friends superfan claims he was brutally scammed out of £200 by a fraudster posing as Jennifer Aniston. Paul Davies from Southampton believed he was chatting to the Rachel Green star on social media, before ' Jennifer ' asked him to hand over the cash so she could pay for her "Apple subscriptions" reports the Mirror. ‌ Paul claims he was bombarded with scarily realistic AI-generated videos and messages from supposed Hollywood stars, including fake clips of Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk. ‌ The 43-year-old said ' Jen ' sent him her driving license as proof of her identity and he fell for it, not least because she told him she 'loved him'. Speaking to The Sun, he said: 'I've had fake videos from Jennifer Aniston saying she loves me and asking for £200. I believed it – and I paid.' Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! The cruel scam saw him send £200 worth of non-refundable Apple gift cards to the alleged American sweetheart as Paul admitted: 'I got bitten. 'Once bitten, twice shy.' During their conversation on social media, ' Jennifer ' sent various sweet messages to Paul while also warning him not to contact Facebook because "you don't want problems". The twisted con is part of a worrying wave of deepfake, AI generated videos, which often forge someone's face, voice or entire likeness. ‌ Paul says he's been hounded by droves of deepfake videos, often claiming he's won a huge prize, endorsed by a fake celebrity. One video even showed a fake Zuckerberg declaring: 'This is not a scam - believe me' while flashing a phoney ID. 'They make it look so real,' Paul said. "It's been going on for five months. I thought someone would get in trouble for this, but they seem to be having a laugh – and getting away with it.' ‌ Paul, who admits his mental health has been affected by the scam, said he's sharing his story to protect others. It comes as another unsuspecting Facebook user was duped by a scammer pretending to be Brad Pitt. The con artist swindled a French woman out of nearly £700,000 by pretending to be the Fight Club star, despite actually living in Nigeria and never stepping foot in front of a camera. ‌ Interior designer Anne, 53, was tricked into funding a bogus cancer treatment for the so-called superstar after being sent AI-generated selfies and love messages. The sham romance dragged on for over a year, costing Anne her life savings, her marriage, and her mental health. Eventually a crack team discovered the scammer's identity, his Nigerian home, along with, sadly, 34 other victims.

Teacher 'swigged alcohol during rave-like lesson and called pupils little sh**s'

A pupil has given evidence at a hearing. A teacher called pupils "little s****" and swigged alcohol from a water bottle during a rave-like lesson, a fitness to practice hearing has been told. Alice Ashton allegedly started to "behave out of character" during an "out of control" lesson which turned into a "mini rave with loud music, shouting and dancing". The alleged antics resulted in pupils raising concerns about her behaviour, saying they could smell alcohol in an Evian bottle she had been drinking from. One 16-year-old told the hearing Miss Ashton was also swearing and called the whole class "little sh**s" in January last year. The Education Workforce Council panel heard the lesson took place just four months after Miss Ashton was convicted of drink driving. Miss Ashton was described as "smiley and happy" before she started to become "agitated" at Ysgol Bro Caereinion school in Welshpool, Powys, The Mirror reports. Giving evidence in person, a 16 year-old schoolgirl said Miss Ashton drank orange liquid which smelled of alcohol while playing music from her laptop. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! The student, referred to as Pupil H, said fellow classmates discussed afterwards how odd the teacher's behaviour had been. She said Miss Ashton taught her "boring" PSE numerous times before and were usually about alcohol and drug awareness but not that day. The pupil said she had been sitting in the front row of the class and could smell alcohol from the Evian water bottle. She told the hearing the bottle was full at the start of the lesson and almost empty by the end. Pupil H said: "She was very, very close to us. There was a slight alcoholic smell. She was very, very lively and quite animated and speaking with her hands. In other lessons she was more reserved and quiet. "Alice Ashton had an Evian bottle with orange juice. I noticed she was regularly taking swigs from the bottle. I recall Alice Ashton asked the class to make the Macarena. She played music and we were not doing work." The teenager said Miss Ashton "kept jumping up from her desk" but became "irritated" as the lesson went on. The hearing was told one schoolboy was walking around the classroom"annoying" people when Miss Ashton told him to leave but "not to snitch". Pupil H said: "She began to swear at him. She put her middle finger two to three inches from his face and continued to swear at him." Another student said: "She got us to dance the Macarena and she did not care about the lesson anymore. She got some students dancing to the laptop and speakers and it spiralled out of control." Miss Ashton, who was not present at the hearing, did not respond to the allegations. The hearing was told she had previously emailed the EWC to say she was no longer working as a teacher and had moved to England. Presenting officer Lewis Harrison said Miss Ashton had told an internal school inquiry that she did not swear or sing to the class. But Mr Harrison said CCTV footage of the lesson was totally at odds with her denials. He said: "It is totally untenable to suggest the music is being played as background music. The evidence is very clear that Miss Ashton did not remain at the front of the class. "She invited pupils to dance." Alice Ashton faces allegations unacceptable professional conduct relating to her conviction of drink driving at Telford Magistrates' Court in September 2023. The allegations also include appearing under the influence of alcohol at work in January last year and acting in an unprofessional manner to pupils by swearing and using a "V" sign with her fingers. The remote hearing continues.

Gangland mourners threatened over attending funerals of two gangsters

Scottish gangsters Ross Monaghan, 43, and Eddie Lyons Jr, 46, was brutally killed at the Monaghans bar in Costa del Sol. Expected funeral-goers have been issued with threats A chilling message threatened anyone attending the funeral of two gangsters in a shocking online post. The mystery threat surfaced online comes after the bodies of Ross Monaghan, 43, and Eddie Lyons Jr, 46, were released to their families by the Spanish authorities. The pair were gunned down in a Mafia-style execution at the Monaghans bar in Costa del Sol on May 31. ‌ Lyons Jr was reportedly shot in the chest at close range and died at the scene. Monaghan was said to have ran into the bar as staff and customers ducked underneath tables and chairs. He was reportedly shot at least four times in the chest and abdomen and also died at the bar. ‌ Now, mourners who are planning to attend their funerals have been warned by a mystery source. The online post, states: 'Anyone who attends the funeral of Edward and Ross this week will be treated the exact same way as them. This is now time to fight fire with fire. Family and friends take note. One man and his ego caused all this." The threat blames Dubai based crime boss Ross McGill for the relentless gangland feud which has engulfed central Scotland since March. It's yet to be confirmed exactly where and when the funeral of the gunned down pair will be held, reports Daily Record. Last night a source said: "Things are really beginning to heat up again now, especially in Glasgow. A house connected to the Lyons was recently smashed into with a motor. It went straight into the front room with people inside. "The main figures in the Lyons crew will want to show strength at the funerals but at the same time this will put a target on their backs. Their boss Steven lives in Dubai and didn't turn up for the last major funeral so it remains to be seen if he will this time." Confirming the release of the two bodies a Spanish judicial official said: 'Fuengirola's Court of Instruction Number. Two which is coordinating the judicial investigation into the murders has authorised the release of the bodies to their families for them to do what they believe to be appropriate.' ‌ Double murder suspect Michael Riley, 44, is in prison in the UK awaiting likely forced extradition after being arrested in Liverpool last month. Spanish police chiefs described the man who shot the mobsters late last month as a member of the rival Daniel crime clan, despite Police Scotland saying they had 'no intelligence' to suggest the killings were linked to the ongoing gangland turf war here. Malaga-based Spanish National Police chief superintendent Pedro Agudo Novo revealed at a packed press conference the dramatic Liverpool arrest was made after detectives discovered the alleged hitman was about to flee his UK bolthole for a "paradise island tax haven." He said: 'The double murder was carried out by a professional killer and member of one of the victims' rival gangs' before going on to detail how he fled Spain via Portugal and then took a plane to Leeds." Last week Scotland's top cop, Chief Constable Jo Farrell, doubled down on the force's initial insistence it wasn't aware of any evidence Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jnr's murders were linked to the ongoing gang feud here, or had been planned from Scotland. Monaghans Fuengirola, the pub 43-year-old dad-of-two Ross owned and was shot dead moments after his gang pal was killed with a bullet to the neck on the terrace outside, has now reopened under the new name Irish Rover.
