YSRCP chief Jagan likens AP situation to ‘Emergency'; says heavy police deployment is to suppress dissent
During his Nellore visit, Jagan met former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy at the Nellore Central Jail. Later, he visited the residence of former MLA Prasanna Kumar Reddy to express solidarity with his family following a recent alleged attack.
Addressing the media at Sujathamma colony, Jagan accused the ruling TDP of resorting to undemocratic measures. 'Why are thousands of police officers deployed, not for law and order, but to suppress my supporters?' he questioned. He accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of political vendetta.
Accusing the TDP of running an illegal liquor mafia, the YSRCP chief alleged that liquor is being sold at inflated rates from 'unauthorised rooms' under the coalition government, and commissions are being pocketed by Naidu and his MLAs. The former chief minister also alleged large-scale illegal mining of silica and quartz, with kickbacks going to Naidu and his son Lokesh.
To monitor the crowd and ensure law and order, the district police deployed 157 CCTV cameras, 14 drones, a special surveillance drone from Tirupati, and mobile camera units.

2008 Malegaon blast case: NCP leader demands state government challenge acquittal of accused
MUMBAI: NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) minority cell chief and national general secretary Syed Jalaluddin demanded that the state govt challenge the Special NIA court's acquittal of all seven accused in the Malegaon 2008 terror blast case. "Just as the govt challenged the Bombay High Court's acquittal of all 12 accused in the Mumbai train blasts 2006 case, it should challenge the acquittal of seven accused, including Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and Colonel Purohit, in the Malegaon 2008 blasts case," said Jalaluddin. He said that though his party NCP (Ajit Pawar) is part of the BJP-led Mahayuti in the state, it follows a secular policy. The Supreme Court stayed the High Court order, though it said sending the accused back to jail was not needed. The state govt must show the same urgency in this case too, where seven accused were acquitted," said Jalaluddin. Though many Muslim and other secular leaders have made a similar demand, the demand coming from a leader of the party which is part of the state govt is significant. CM Devendra Fadnavis made his stand clear when he responded to the verdict with a tweet saying, "Terrorism was never saffron, is not, and never will be." BIG relief for parents? Delhi govt to move Bill to regulate private school fee hikes
Delhi government will table education bill to regulate fees hike by private schools in the upcoming Monsoon session, CM Rekha Gupta said on Saturday. The monsoon session of the Delhi Assembly will commence on August 4, and will continue for five days. According to the Cabinet-approved ordinance, passed on April 29, the bill imposes strict penalties on schools that hike fees arbitrarily. For a first offence, schools will face fines ranging from ₹ 1 lakh to ₹ 5 lakh, with repeat violations attracting penalties between ₹ 2 lakh and ₹ 10 lakh. If the school fails to refund within the specified time, the fine doubles after 20 days, triples after 40 days, and continues to increase with every 20-day delay. Repeated violations may lead to a ban on holding official positions in the school management and loss of the right to propose future fee revisions. On May 14, several students were denied entry into the premises of DPS Dwarka over non-payment of fees as angry parents protested outside the gates, Indian Express had reported. The Monsoon Session will be the third session of the Delhi Assembly under the Rekha Gupta-led government. The chief minister added that efforts are also underway to make the Delhi Secretariat paperless, as part of the government's broader digital and sustainable governance agenda.
