DA Limpopo lays charges over GNT pension and medical fund scandal

'As the sole shareholder of GNT, Leda bears statutory and fiduciary oversight responsibilities for GNT's operations and financial conduct. They too must be held accountable and face consequence management,' Smalle explained.
According to Smalle, the shocking extent of this crisis was laid bare during an urgent meeting of Limpopo's Portfolio Committee on Economic Development, Environment and Tourism, convened last Friday evening, following the DA's sustained calls for GNT and Leda to appear before the committee to explain and account.
It became apparent at the meeting that unpaid contributions to three pension schemes now total R6.78m, affecting 945 employees.
In some cases, employee membership has already been suspended.
If a partial payment of R1m is not made by the end of May, all employee memberships will be suspended. If the default continues, employees' risk permanently losing their pension benefits.
Regarding medical aid contributions, total unpaid premiums amount to R3.21m, affecting 247 employees.

All medical aid coverage for GNT employees has been suspended, meaning employees cannot access healthcare services unless they pay out of pocket.
'While undertakings were made at the portfolio committee, and while MEC Tshitereke Matibe indicated that he wished to address the crisis privately and in confidence to the committee, this never materialised. A subsequent statement issued by MEC Matibe, in which he apologised to GNT employees and set out certain actions including placing GNT under administration, was later withdrawn. It is within this context that our criminal complaint to SAPS will be lodged,' Smalle explained.
'We urgently need resolution to the plight facing GNT's employees, and we need to see real accountability and consequence management. If we don't clean out GNT, no turnaround will succeed,' Smalle reckoned.
'In our complaint to the police we call on law enforcement to investigate the conduct of GNT and Leda officials and their board members for theft, fraud, contraventions of the Pension Funds Act and contraventions of the Medical Schemes Act, all of which constitute criminal offences,' Smalle concluded.

Photos of him with blood gushing down his face circulated on social media shortly after the crash. Gotsell said the wheels of justice were finally turning after months of pressure on the South African Police Service (SAPS) to investigate the matter. "Over the past months, Cape Town and surrounds have been plagued by serious incidents involving luxury vehicles. Nobody, not even a so-called celebrity, is above the law." It's understood that a passenger was also injured in the accident.

The DA in the province has revealed that a company allegedly belonging to the wife of the Employment and Labour Deputy Minister, Jomo Sibiya, was suspiciously awarded a tender to supply food items to schools. A report on all politically connected individuals, including Deputy Minister Sibiya and other officials, who may have benefited from the current contract cycle. The publication of beneficiary company lists, including directors, tax status, and CIPC registration confirmation. Mngadi said Sesiphambili Trading was registered by Sibiya in 2008 and is currently under the directorship of his wife, Simphiwe Sibiya. This places the deputy minister in the same boat as KZN Education MEC, Sipho Hlomuka. A company run by his family was also reportedly linked to the tender. 'Evidence now suggests that a company registered under the deputy minister's wife's name is among those irregularly appointed as KZN NSNP service providers. The information comes amid widespread reports of politically connected ANC cadres and individuals benefiting from inflated and irregular contracts - a clear sign of systemic and coordinated looting of a programme meant to feed our poorest learners,' said Mngadi. He further stated that this crisis can no longer be treated as an administrative mishap. It is organised corruption, and it is robbing hungry children of their constitutional right to basic nutrition, he added. 'We reiterate our call for the Provincial Treasury to upscale its investigation into this matter and release its findings for further forensic investigations.' He said the DA has also established that several companies shortlisted or scheduled for service under KZN's NSNP do not have MAA numbers - meaning they are incorrectly registered on the Central Supplier Database (CSD) and ineligible. Attempts to get a comment from Sibiya were unsuccessful, while Hlomuka's response is with the premier. Ntuli recently announced that he was analysing a response from Hlomuka about allegations against him and vowed to take appropriate action if need be. His spokesperson, Bongani Gina, said the premier will soon announce the date when he would reveal whether he is accepting the MEC's explanation or not.

Two years after being praised for her no-nonsense approach to Thabo Bester's prison escape, Glynnis Breytenbach is now facing criticism over her comments about KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. The DA's Spokesperson on Justice and Constitutional Development questioned why the top cop did not bring his grievances before parliament. Last month, Mkhwanazi made headlines after accusing the Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu, of being involved in a politically-motivated criminal syndicate. The bombshell revelations were made in a media conference. Speaking on the DA's official podcast this week, Glynnis Breytenbach questioned Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi's actions last month. The other two stopped to help him, and I left the scene'. She's a rebel who doesn't care about public opinion As a teenager, Glynnis Breytenbach claims she drove a motorbike and 'spent practically my entire high school in detention.' She said in her biography: 'I don't give a flying f**k if you like me or you don't like me. I'm not going to change.' Her favourite hobbies are 'swearing and smoking' In her memoir, she said of her vulgar vocab, particularly her favourite word – 'f**k,': 'It's expressive and can be used as an adjective, adverb, noun or verb.
