Pleas of GSECL staff to retain jobs after invalid caste certificates junked
The petitioners argued that they had served as Vidyut Sahayaks for 15 years and requested not to be terminated, but to instead be accommodated in the general category. They were originally appointed under the Socially and Economically Backward Class (SEBC) category, claiming to belong to the Sindha community. However, their services were terminated after a scrutiny committee found their SEBC certificates to be invalid.
While dismissing the petition, Justice Sandeep Bhatt stated, "The petitioners are continued on the posts on which they were appointed on the basis of the caste certificates, which were held to be illegal by the scrutiny committee, because of which, the rights of the genuinely deserving persons of the said community were infringed. The persons who are possessing genuine caste certificates have been waiting for their turn to be appointed but due to the petitioners, whose caste certificates are held illegal, being continued, they could not be given a chance to be appointed i.e.

The high court did not find any illegality or arbitrariness in the govt's decision to terminate the petitioners' services. Notably, the petitioners' SEBC caste certificates were found invalid as early as 2012—two years after they joined service.
There were multiple rounds of litigation, up to the Supreme Court. During the pendency of these legal proceedings, the petitioners were allowed to continue in their jobs.
At one stage, a division bench of the high court suggested the govt consider accommodating them under the general category, but the administration found this unfeasible. The employees then filed a fresh petition earlier this year seeking continuation of service.
In this regard, Justice Bhatt observed, "This plea is not available to the petitioners, as—actually speaking—deducting the period of litigation, they effectively worked only two years. For the rest of the years, they have been working on sympathy only."

It is shocking that even after more than 75 years of independence people are still being kept out of temples because of their caste, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has observed in a recent order. Justice B. Pugalendhi observed that the Constitution did not allow discrimination. God did not discriminate. Only human beings did, the court said, while hearing the petitions filed by Vanniyakulachathiriyar Nala Arakattalai (Trust), represented by its president Murugan, and Marimuthu, who alleged that Scheduled Caste devotees were being denied entry into the temple. The court observed that the petitions raised serious constitutional and administrative issues concerning Mariamman Temple at Chinna Dharapuram in Karur district. The Trust sought removal of the 2018 prohibitory order and permission to resume festivals and worship. It said no caste discrimination took place in the temple, which they had the right to manage. On the other hand, Mr. Marimuthu alleged that the SC devotees were being denied entry into the temple. The officials had failed to protect their rights to equality and religion. The Karur Collector, in a status report, admitted that the temple had remained closed for public worship and festival-related activities since 2018. Pujas alone were being performed. The reason was apprehension of communal tension and law and order issues, he said. Condemning the report, the court observed that the closure of a public temple for years under the guise of law and order concern was a dereliction of constitutional duty. If there was any real threat, it was the Collector's responsibility to handle it. Equally disturbing was the role of police. 'They seem to think that the only way to keep peace is by denying entry to everyone. This is wrong. Stopping everyone from entering is not the way to maintain peace. It is the job of the police to make sure that rights are protected, and that anyone who breaks the law is dealt with properly,' the court observed. It observed that the Collector admitted that the temple was under the control of the HR&CE Department and was being managed by a Fit Person. Legally, the temple was a public temple under the HR&CE Department, and the Trust had no official right to claim full control. It was the duty of the department and the State to make sure that everyone was allowed to worship. A good example of how such situations could be handled was the Kandadevi Temple festival in Sivaganga district. The temple festival had been stopped for 17 years due to similar caste tensions. But, in 2024, the government took proactive steps and ensured that the festival took place peacefully with participation of all. The government must remember that peace built by denying rights was not real peace, it was surrender, the court observed. The court made it clear that no person or group could block the access to a public temple based on caste. If anyone tried to create trouble or claim superiority based on caste, they would face strict legal consequences, the court said. The court directed the Karur Collector, Superintendent of Police, and HR&CE Department to file a report and posted the matter for hearing after three weeks.

"Parliament constitutes all the MPs. We are in the government. We have more members of Parliament. But, some of the opposition MPs say that only they should speak. They want to hijack Parliament. That will not happen," Rijiju said. "What is a democracy? Democracy is giving space to everybody. In Parliament, it is very proportionate. Every MP represents certain areas, some states and some constituencies. So, if they think that the opposition should occupy all the space, that will not happen," he said. Rijiju said Indian democracy is very vibrant and was in favour of the same spirit reflected in Parliament. "Many people may say that the Indian Parliament is very noisy, very messy, but I welcome it. According to the WSJ, Trump's letter contained multiple lines of typewritten text surrounded by what looked to be a hand-drawn outline of a naked lady. The Journal claims that the outline featured details intended to show the woman's breast. Trump's signature, which was intended to resemble pubic hair, was made over the woman's waist. 'A pair of small arcs denotes the woman's breasts, and the future president's signature is a squiggly 'Donald' below her waist, mimicking pubic hair," the Journal report says. Live Events The note is allegedly styled as an imaginary third-person conversation between Trump and Epstein. It ends with the line: 'A pal is a wonderful thing. Happy Birthday – and may every day be another wonderful secret.' The origins of the letter is yet to be known and it is not known how the version bearing Trump's signature was produced, the WSJ said in its report. Epstein died by suicide in a New York prison in 2019 -- during Trump's first term -- after being charged with sex trafficking in a scheme where he allegedly groomed young and underage women for sexual abuse by the rich and powerful. Trump supporters expected the Republican to answer their questions on his return to office this January but now find themselves being told the conspiracy theories are false. Trump in recent days has berated as 'weaklings' supporters vying for more records from the Epstein probe. The Justice Department and FBI said in a memo made public earlier this month there is no evidence that the disgraced financier kept a "client list" or was blackmailing powerful figures. They also dismissed the claim that Epstein was murdered in jail, confirming his suicide, and said they would not be releasing any more information on the probe.
