'The President expressed his commitment to the importance that the Maldives attaches to security-related issues and the commitment of both sides to continue working together,' Vikram Misri said during a briefing following Modi-Muizzu talks.

Misri said that there is a high frequency of contact between the security authorities of the two countries.
PM Modi, who is on a two-day visit to Maldives, held extensive talks with Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu to deepen cooperation in a range of key areas, including trade, defence and maritime security.
Foreign secretary Misri said India continues to work with the Maldives on any issue that might impinge upon shared security interests in the region.
'I think there is quite a high frequency of contact between the security authorities of the two countries and engagement at various levels. This remains an important issue. We continue to work with the Maldives on any issue that might impinge upon shared security interests in the region,' Misri said.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said a key pact inked following the talks will reduce the Maldives' annual debt repayment to India by 40 per cent.
While addressing a briefing, PM Modi said that the roots of India-Maldives relations is as deep as the ocean.
'For us, it is always friendship first,' Modi said in his media statement, adding the 'roots of our relations are older than history, and as deep as the ocean.'
India on Friday announced a ₹4,850 crore line of credit for the Maldives and agreed to finalise a free trade deal soon. India-Maldives friendship will always "remain bright and clear" irrespective of any circumstances, the PM said, outlining his vision for the relationship.

Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, also proved that for enemies and terrorists targeting India, there is no safe haven, PM Modi said in his address at an event here to honour the Tamil emperor Rajendra Chola-I. The event marks the birth anniversary of the Rajendra Chola-I which is celebrated as the 'Aadi Thiruvathirai' (the birth star of the king is Thiruvathirai in the Tamil month of Aadi) festival. Also, it commemorates 1,000 years of Rajendra Chola's legendary maritime expedition to South East Asia and the commencement of the construction of the Gangaikonda Cholapuram temple, a magnificent example of Chola architecture. 'The world saw how India responds if someone attacks its security and sovereignty,' he said about the military strikes at chosen targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7. Further, he said: 'Operation Sindoor proved that for enemies of India, for terrorists, there is no safe haven. When I came here from the helipad, the 3-4 km distance suddenly became a roadshow, and everyone was praising Op Sindoor. It has created a new awakening, a new self-confidence across the country. The world has to realise India's strength.' Modi further said the names of emperors Raja Raja Chola, and his son Rajendra Chola-I are synonymous with India's identity and pride and announced that grand statues would be built for them in Tamil Nadu. These statues will be 'modern pillars of our historic awakening.' The honour for the iconic Tamil kings follows Modi's several Tamil-centric initiatives including the Kashi Tamil Sangamam and multi-language and braille translations of Thirukkural, Manimekalai and other classic Tamil literature. 'The Chola emperors had woven India into a thread of cultural unity. Today, our government is carrying forward the same vision of the Chola era. Through initiatives like the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam and the Saurashtra-Tamil Sangamam, we are strengthening these centuries-old bonds of unity,' the PM said. Further, Modi said several people spoke about UK's Magna Carta while commenting on democracy. However, the Chola-era 'Kudavolai system' predated it by centuries, he said. Clearly, the prime minister continued with his Tamil pitch by invoking the rich legacy of Chola kings and their patronage of Saivite spiritualism. The PM said: 'Our Shaivite tradition has played a vital role in shaping India's cultural identity. The Chola emperors were key architects of this legacy. Even today, Tamil Nadu remains one of the most significant centres where this living tradition continues to thrive.' Bhubaneswar/Keonjhar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lauded the efforts of two women-led changemaker groups in Odisha who are creating forest fire awareness through devotional music and reviving Santhali weaving, during his monthly 'Mann Ki Baat' radio address. Highlighting the deep connection between culture and conservation, the PM spoke about Radhakrishna Sankirtan Mandali, a folk music troupe from Murgapahadi village in Keonjhar district. "Have you ever heard about people being made aware of forest fires through kirtans? You may not believe it, but this amazing work is happening in Keonjhar district of Odisha. Here, there is a group named Radhakrishna Sankirtan Mandali," he said. Modi further said the troupe was working for environmental protection. "The inspiration behind this initiative is Pramila Pradhan Ji. To protect the forest and environment, she has added new lyrics and new messages to traditional songs. Her troupe travels from village to village, raising awareness against the hazards of forest fire. "The number of fire points in Ghatagaon range reduced from 288 in 2023 to 80 in 2024 and 26 in 2025. Awareness through cultural groups, including sankirtan, has played a significant role," he added. Modi also appreciated another women's collective from Mayurbhanj district that has been quietly reviving Santhali handloom. "There is a success story in Mayurbhanj district. Here, more than 650 tribal women have given a new life to Santhali saris. These women are earning thousands of rupees every month. They are not only making clothes but also creating their own identity," said Modi.
