Fact Check: Usher didn't testify in court against Sean 'Diddy' Combs
Usher testified against Sean "Diddy" Combs during his New York trial, on or prior to May 20, 2025.
Rating:
A rumor that circulated online in May 2025 claimed that eight-time Grammy-winning musician Usher testified in court against rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs during his New York trial.
However, as of May 20, Usher had not testified in court during Combs' trial. A YouTube user promoted this false rumor in a video generated with artificial intelligence (AI) that received millions of views. That video's text description included a disclaimer about the clip containing fictional content, although the part of the description containing the disclaimer was hidden by default and users who did not click "more" to expand the text could easily have missed it.
Snopes contacted by email the YouTube user who promoted this rumor, as well as representatives for Usher, and will update this story if we learn more information.
The false rumor about Usher testifying in court spread during Combs' trial in Manhattan federal court, just one day after singer Dawn Richard alleged during testimony that Usher witnessed a 2010 incident of Combs punching then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura "hard" at a West Hollywood, California, restaurant.
Combs faces charges including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution, all centered on so-called "freak-off" parties — alleged sexual marathons involving drug use and coercion. Combs pleaded not guilty; if convicted, he faces a minimum prison sentence of 15 years and a maximum of life in prison.
On May 20, a manager of the WhatIsMyStarWorth YouTube channel posted a video (archived) with the title, "1 MINUTE AGO: Usher Breaks Down in Court, Reveals What Diddy Did to Him at 14..." The video received nearly 3.5 million views as of this writing on May 21. Other users then shared the same rumor on Facebook (archived), TikTok (archived) and X (archived), as well as in other YouTube videos.
The video's thumbnail image displayed a fake "breaking news" chyron with AI-generated photos of Usher and Combs, including one photo of a young, clothed Usher appearing to lie in a bed next to a shirtless Combs. The image also the words "I was just 14 man...," which Usher purportedly said in court. The title and fake thumbnail image — one depicting a shirtless Combs and a bed — alluded to Combs supposedly engaging in sex with Usher when he was a minor.

The description under the video included a brief summary, as well as a disclaimer only visible if viewers clicked "more" to expand the text:
In an emotional and unexpected moment during the ongoing Diddy trial, Usher reportedly took the stand and broke down in tears, revealing a deeply personal and disturbing experience from his youth. According to sources close to the case, Usher claimed that something involving Sean "Diddy" Combs happened when he was just 14 years old—and what he shared has left the courtroom in shock.
In this video, we break down the details of Usher's alleged testimony, the courtroom's reaction, and what this means for the rapidly unfolding case. This could be a major turning point, not only legally, but in how the entertainment world views one of its most powerful figures.
Disclaimer: This content is fictional and for entertainment purposes only. No official court records or verified reports confirm these claims.
The WhatIsMyStarWorth channel's bio page featured a similar disclaimer reading, "DISCLAIMER: The content on this channel may contain gossip-based information, rumors, or exaggerated portrayals of reality. Please exercise your own discretion while watching and remember that not all information presented may be factual or verified."
The video also displayed an "altered or synthetic content" label referencing, at least in part, the clip's AI-generated voice narration. The same fake voice appeared under the name "Bill" on the ElevenLabs AI voice model website. The user who created the clip also possibly prompted an AI tool to handle the video's scripting and editing. Scans of the narrator's script with the AI text-detection websites Copyleaks, QuillBot and ZeroGPT produced differing results.
At the beginning of the video, the AI-voiced narrator says, "Before we begin, viewer discretion is strongly advised. The following is for educational and entertainment purposes only. This is the verbatim federal courtroom testimony of the Sean 'Diddy' Combs trial, as reported by Inner City Press."
However, Inner City Press never reported on Usher testifying during the trial. A person associated with the publication previously posted (archived) on X about their inclusion in such false videos, specifically refuting the idea they reported on the prosecution revealing a secret "tape" recording depicting Prince exposing Combs. In a direct message to Snopes on X, they labeled such videos as "false reports," adding that advertising revenue seemed to possibly be the YouTube channel's goal. Snopes previously reported that Inner City Press never reported on any such Prince recording and that the prosecution did not play any "tape" involving the late musician.
Despite the video's thumbnail image, the video itself made no mention of Combs and Usher sharing a bed. The clip's narrator instead described Usher's alleged testimony in court — which did not occur — featuring details from Combs' influence on the rising star, beginning in decades past. In 2004, Rolling Stone reported on some of these same stories involving Usher and Combs in an article (archived) titled "Usher's Wild Ride."

Believe it or not, Jake Paul is now a ranked boxer and eligible to fight for a world title
Jake Paul was a child actor. He was once primarily known as a YouTube influencer. When he started boxing, he was seen largely as a novelty act who didn't face serious fighters. As of Monday night, however, Paul is ranked by the World Boxing Assn. And as impossible as it may have sounded in the not-so-distant past, that makes him eligible to fight for a world title. 'I've worked hard to get here but there is nothing to celebrate,' Paul wrote on X after the WBA listed him at No. 14 in the latest edition of its cruiserweight rankings. 'Long road ahead and I'm more committed to it every single day. I may veer off the path now and again, but being a world champion is my desired ultimate destination.' The ranking came days after Paul's victory by unanimous decision over former middleweight champion Julio César Chávez Jr., the most accomplished opponent the former Disney Channel 'Bizaardvark' star has faced en route to a 12-1 record with 7 knockouts in a boxing career that has spanned less than seven years. During much of that time, Paul's opponents included fellow YouTubers, an NBA player and several mixed martial artists. In the fall, he defeated then-58-year-old former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson by unanimous decision in a bout that peaked at 65 million concurrent streams on Netfilix and netted a record gate of $18,117,072 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Paul's only loss came in 2023 against Tommy Fury, a professional boxer and reality TV star. He reflected on that fight Saturday night after his win over Chávez. 'I don't think I was a fighter at the time,' Paul told reporters. 'I was barely 2½ years into the sport. I didn't really know what I was doing. I didn't have the right equipment around me, the right conditioning. My lifestyle outside of the ring was still like that of a YouTuber, a famous actor or whatever it was at that point in time. I wasn't completely focused on boxing. '... People still hold the Tommy Fury fight against me, but now I've beaten a former world champion and I'm coming to collect on that loss to Tommy.' The current WBA cruiserweight champion is Gilberto 'Zurdo' Ramírez, who was on the same bill as Paul last weekend and defeated Yuniel Dorticos in a close but unanimous decision. During the postfight news conference, Paul and Ramírez stared each other down. 'I want tougher fighters. I want to be a world champion,' Paul told reporters. 'Zurdo looked slow ... tonight. That'd be easy work, too.'

Sean 'Diddy' Combs jury decides on some counts; verdict not yet known
By Jack Queen and Luc Cohen NEW YORK (Reuters) -The jury at Sean "Diddy" Combs' sex trafficking trial has reached a verdict on four of the five counts the music mogul faces, the judge overseeing the case said on Tuesday, without revealing the outcome. After two days of deliberation, the jury reached a verdict on four charges: two counts of sex trafficking and two of transportation to engage in prostitution, U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian announced. But the judge said the jury had not been able to reach a verdict on a fifth charge, racketeering conspiracy, because jurors had "unpersuadable opinions on both sides." He instructed the jury to continue deliberating on the racketeering conspiracy count. The jury will resume deliberations at 9 a.m. EDT (1300 GMT) on Wednesday. Combs, 55, had pleaded not guilty to all five counts. If convicted of sex trafficking or racketeering, the former billionaire known for elevating hip-hop in American culture could face life in prison. Before Subramanian read the jury's note, Combs rubbed his eyes and rested his face against his palm while seated at the defense table with his lawyers huddled around him. One defense lawyer, Brian Steel, rubbed Combs' shoulder. Two of Combs' other defense lawyers put their arms around each other. The partial verdict comes after a seven-week trial in which two of the music mogul's former girlfriends testified that he physically and sexually abused them. Prosecutors say Combs was charged with racketeering because for two decades he used his business empire to force two of his romantic partners to take part in drug-fueled, days-long sexual performances sometimes known as "Freak Offs" with male sex workers in hotel rooms while Combs watched, masturbated and occasionally filmed. His lawyers acknowledged that the Bad Boy Records founder, once famed for hosting lavish parties for the cultural elite in luxurious locales like the Hamptons and Saint-Tropez, was at times violent in his domestic relationships. But they said the sexual activity described by prosecutors was consensual. JURY ASKS TO REVIEW CASSIE'S TESTIMONY Earlier on Tuesday, the jury asked to review portions of the testimony of the rhythm and blues singer Casandra "Cassie" Ventura, who testified that Combs forced her to take part in "Freak Offs" throughout their decade-long relationship. The 12-member jury asked to review Ventura's testimony regarding a 2016 incident at an InterContinental hotel in Los Angeles, when a surveillance camera captured footage of Combs kicking and dragging Ventura in a hallway. Jurors saw the security camera footage several times throughout the trial. Prosecutors say that at the time of the incident, Ventura was attempting to leave a "Freak Off," Combs' term for a drug-fueled sex marathon in which he would watch Ventura have sex with a paid male escort while he masturbated and sometimes filmed. Prosecutors say that conduct amounted to sex trafficking because Combs used force and threats to cut off financial support or release sex tapes of Ventura to coerce her to take part in the performances, and because the escorts were paid. Combs' defense pointed to tender and sexually explicit text messages that Ventura sent Combs throughout their relationship to bolster their argument that she took part in the "Freak Offs" because she loved Combs and wanted to make him happy. They say the violent 2016 altercation stemmed from a dispute about Combs' relationship with another woman. Prosecutors charged Combs with racketeering conspiracy because they say his employees facilitated his abuse by setting up hotel rooms for "Freak Offs" and procuring illegal drugs for the sex parties. The defense argued that Combs kept his personal and professional lives separate, and that the drugs were for his personal use.

Pamela Anderson Reportedly 'Hates' When People Talk About Her Sex Tape As Singer Lorde Shows 'Creepy' Interest In It
Pamela Anderson is choosing not to pay attention to Lorde's continuous mention of her sex tape, but would reportedly love for the whole thing to stop. The Grammy-winning singer admitted that she watched Anderson's sex tape with her ex-husband Tommy Lee, and went on to reference the steamy encounter in her new song. However, Anderson seemingly handed the singer the "ultimate insult" as she is unaware of who Lorde is in the first place. Pamela Anderson recently opened up about the "wild ride" she experienced after posing for Playboy Magazine for the first time during what she calls "the blurry years." Singer Lorde seems to be fascinated with Pamela Anderson's sex life, so much so that she dug up the "Baywatch" alum's leaked sex tape with ex-husband Tommy Lee. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the "Royals" hitmaker, whose real name is Ella Yelich-O'Connor, disclosed that she watched Anderson and Lee's leaked 1995 sex tape after a psychedelic therapy session, describing it as "beautiful" and filled with "purity." "I found it to be so beautiful," Lorde admitted. "And maybe it's f-cked up that I watched it, but I saw two people that were so in love with each other, and there was this purity." "They were jumping off this big boat.… They were like children. They were so free. And I just was like, 'Whoa. Being this free comes with danger,'" she added. As if that wasn't enough, Lorde referenced the sex tape on her new song "Current Affairs" from her newly released album "Virgin," when she sings: "All alone in my room / Watching the tape of their honeymoon / On the boat, it was pure and true / Then the film came out." The singer has faced fiery backlash online, with some netizens calling her comments insensitive and tone-deaf. Meanwhile, Anderson has chosen to be the bigger person and ignore Lorde's remarks, but she wouldn't want it to continue. The 58-year-old pop star has been open about how she suffered deep humiliation and pain from the unauthorized release of the tape and would prefer that it never be mentioned again. An insider who spoke to the Daily Mail said that Anderson "hates when the sex tape creeps back into pop culture, whether it was the 'Pam and Tommy' show, or whenever people start talking about it or when she has had to talk about it." However, with Lorde's "creepy" fascination and continuous mention of the clip, one would expect the actress to be seething with rage, but that's not the case, as Anderson "doesn't know" Lorde. Revealing how Anderson really feels about the references, the source explained that the video "changed her life forever and a lot of bad came from it that she doesn't like remembering or thinking about." "She's not mad at Lorde, because she doesn't know who she is, but she would rather not have this out there," the source shared. "It is just a headache to deal with when she just wants to live her life." The insider continued, "It is painful that she always has to relive that moment in her life." Anderson and Lee got married in 1995 before separating in 1998 and welcomed two sons, Brandon Thomas Lee and Dylan Jagger Lee. The pair recorded a sex tape and kept it safe, but it was later stolen by Rand Gauthier, an electrician who worked on their house. According to the Daily Mail, Lee refused to pay Gauthier for a job he did, leading him to steal a massive safe from their garage, which included the sex tape. It was later obtained by Seth Warshavsky, who tried to broker a distribution agreement with Anderson and Lee. Sales of the video are said to have generated hundreds of millions of dollars, but Anderson and Lee reportedly didn't receive any of the proceeds. In a judgment against Warshavsky, a judge ruled that each of them was to be awarded $740,000, but he reportedly never paid either star. Anderson has managed to overhaul her career and remains very much active in Hollywood, starring in a number of new films. She received rave reviews after taking on a more serious role in "The Last Showgirl" and would soon appear in the upcoming thriller "Naked Gun," where she stars alongside Liam Neeson. "She has been on a recent high in her career and has steered clear from her past and is looking to age gracefully, do more important work, more fun work, and show off her talent," the source told the news outlet. Part of Anderson's rebranding has been her decision to go makeup-free. The actress is now known for her toned-down glamour while walking red carpets. According to the insider, Anderson wants people to focus on her current accomplishments and forget about "Baywatch and her sex tape past." In an interview with Harper's Bazaar U.K., she opened up about the "wild ride" she experienced after shooting to fame posing for Playboy Magazine during what she called "the blurry years." "I went straight to the Playboy Mansion, I met all these people, and then, you know, life just kept going," Anderson said. "I call them the blurry years. I just went on this crazy, wild ride that I had no control over."
