Jaguars ride high on Reeth and Anirban's exploits
Despite captain Alvaro Robles underperforming in the opening singles tie against an on-song Lilian Bardet, Dena Meshref kept the Jaguars in the hunt by stretching Bernadette Szocs.
The Indian duo of Anirban Ghosh and T. Reeth Rishya then punched above their weight in the last two singles outings to spark off celebrations in the Jaguars camp.

Ghosh — despite wasting four match points in the second game — won the decider against Akash Pal to stretch the tie into the deciding match, with the teams locked at six games apiece. Reeth then used all her experience to make it a forgettable UTT debut for Swastika Ghosh by maintaining a clean slate.
Reeth's forehand reverse-pendulum serve — with side-spin and top-spin variations — left Swastika flummoxed. Reeth won service points at 9-9 in the first game and on the golden point of the second to seal the tie for the Pune outfit.

Earlier in the evening, U Mumba kept itself afloat with stunning comebacks. Szocs saved three match points in the second game before edging past left-handed Dina in the second game. Akash then started a stunning comeback against Anirban, thanks to a stunning forehand down-the-line block at 6-10 that started a five-point streak.
The point of the day was played in the first match. At 8-3 in the second game, Bardet won an 18-shot rally against Robles to start off a series of surprising results.
Who needs cardio when you've got rallies like this? 😅

Stuart Broad Questions 'Lazy Decision' To Call Off Day 4 Of India vs England Test Early
The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy is headed for a grand finale day. Like the first four Tests, the fifth game has also entered the fifth day after rain forced early stumps on Day 4. It meant that England would be needing 35 runs to win the match on the final day at The Oval on Monday, while India will be needing 3 (4 if the injured Chris Woakes bats). Former England pacer Stuart Broad, however, was not happy with the early end of the fourth day. "Still 20 mins away from possible start time, everyone has their sunglasses on at the train station. Felt the supporters deserved to see a finish to that Test Match today. Felt a lazy decision to call it off at 6pm, in my opinion. I wonder who makes it?' Broad wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Still 20 mins away from possible start time, everyone has their sunglasses on at the train station. Felt the supporters deserved to see a finish to that Test Match today. Felt a lazy decision to call it off at 6pm in my opinion. I wonder who makes it? — Stuart Broad (@StuartBroad8) August 3, 2025 At the end of the Day 4's play, England were 339/6, with Jamie Overton (0*) and Jamie Smith (2*) unbeaten. England still need 35 runs to win, with uncertainty over whether Chris Woakes will come to bat or not after a shoulder injury. Centuries from Joe Root and Harry Brook put England in the driver's seat, while the Indian pace unit continues to give hope following a late fightback. India is four wickets away from levelling the series, and England is 35 runs shy of a 3-1 win. Siraj has bowled 1,088 deliveries across the five Tests, in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar series, the most by any player and is destined to add more to his tally on the final day. Siraj is also the highest wicket-taker in the series with 20 scalps under his belt. Former Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar felt a wicket could fall at any moment due to the pressure applied by Indian seamer in the third session on England batters on Day 4 in the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The Oval Test is all set to reach the final day on Monday due to rain and bad light interrupting proceedings on day four. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna delivered high-intensity overs, resulting in key wickets after Tea. Prasidh took two wickets in the final session, removing Jacob Bethell for five and centurion Joe Root for 105 in his following over. "It just felt like a wicket could fall with every ball. Earlier in the middle session, nothing much seemed to be happening--but that's what pressure does. The closer you get to the target, the more difficult the final few steps of the climb become. Your mind starts to wander--to what could happen, to past mistakes--and those mental games are often decisive in sport. India pushed England into that mental space, where suddenly, even the last few runs seem very hard to get," JioHotstar expert Sanjay Bangar said.

England's Huge Advantage vs India Even Before 1st Ball Is Bowled On Final Day Of 5th Test
What will be the final result of the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy? The final day of the five-match series is here and yet we don't know the answer. At the start of the fourth day of the fifth Test, it seemed like India had the upper-hand with England chasing a huge target of 374. But Joe Root and Harry Brook 's centuries almost ruined India's day, before Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj dented the hosts. England ended the day on 339/6, still needing 35 runs to win. India need 3 wickets (4 if the injured Chris Woakes bats). Ahead of the day, England are likely to use the heavy roller which flattens and makes the surface compact, potentially making it easier for the batters. If the batting side requests, it can be used for a maximum of seven minutes before the start of play. With England needing only 35 runs, using the heavy roller might help their batters counter the effects of an uneven pitch. India need to strike fast if they are to make a match out of the final day. If the heavy roller does impact the pitch a lot, it will be all over for Shubman Gill and Co. Jamie Overton (0*) and Jamie Smith (2*) were unbeaten when rain forced early stumps. Former Indian seamer Varun Aaron believes Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna delivered high-intensity overs, resulting in key wickets in the third session of the fifth Test on Day 4. Aaron felt Siraj was unlucky, bowling very well but not getting LBW calls. Siraj and Prasidh bowled a fiery spell post Tea, however Siraj didn't took any wicket in the final session but was bowling on tight length, while Prasidh cleaned up Jacob Bethell for five followed by centurion Joe Root for 105 in his following over. "Siraj and Prasidh bowled five high-intensity overs each after tea, and that effort resulted in two crucial wickets. Siraj was quite unlucky, as he has been throughout the day--he bowled unbelievably well. So many of his deliveries hit the pad, but he just didn't get the LBW calls," JioHotstar expert Varun Aaron said. Aaron felt England find themselves in a tough spot and praised Indian skipper Shuman Gill for his smart captaincy post tea, which didn't allow easy singles to the visitors. "England now find themselves in a tough spot, and I genuinely feel this break is going to do India a world of good. The bowlers get to rest, stretch, have a massage, and get some treatment from the physios. They can come back fresh and give it everything again. This post-tea session has been brilliant--accurate bowling, smart captaincy by Shubman Gill, who didn't allow easy singles, and two very important wickets," he added.

If Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli were playing, I think the outcome would have been different: David Lloyd
Going into the final day of the series, India has an opportunity to level the series, or if England manages to get the remaining runs, they will win the series. This is the first big Test for this young Indian side after the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Former England cricketer David Lloyd opined that if there were the experience of those two in the side, the outcomes might have been different. 'India have been very impressive over the series, but they haven't won the main moments. If Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli were playing, I think the outcome would have been different. Certain players sniff out the main moments and are proactive rather than reactive. Ben Stokes is fabulous at that. India will be scratching their heads thinking how on earth they could lose this 3-1,' Lloyd wrote in his column. Lloyd also said that the rain break came at the right time for England, who lost three wickets in quick succession. 'The break came at the right time for England because India were throwing the kitchen sink at it, and all of a sudden, the scoreboard stopped moving. India needs to be right on it because the ball is swinging. And just to add to the drama, the new ball is due in a few overs. Will India take it? What drama, what theatre,' said Lloyd. With both teams could win the final game from this stage, former India bowler Varun Aaron believes that India are now in a position to win Oval Test. 'Even a 10–15 minute extra break can do wonders for a team. It (the break on Sunday due to rain) gave the players time to regroup in the dressing room, talk strategy, and recover physically. I'm sure the message in the room was clear—'We've worked too hard over the past 60 days to let this game slip.' This team has travelled all the way from India and dominated large parts of the series. A series draw is the least they deserve. A loss from this position would really hurt. But after that spirited bowling spell post-tea, I genuinely believe India are now in a position to win this match,' Aaron said on JioHotstar.
