Clarivate and CAPES Expand Landmark Partnership to Power Research and Innovation Across Brazil
LONDON, June 2, 2025 /CNW/ -- Clarivate Plc (NYSE:CLVT), a leading global provider of transformative intelligence, today announced the renewal of its multi-year partnership with CAPES (Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior), significantly expanding access to trusted Academia & Government and Life Sciences & Healthcare data across over 400 Brazilian institutions. As compared to the previous contract, the agreement increases institutional coverage by 57%, extending the reach of high-quality research tools to universities and research centers across Brazil — from major metropolitan areas to the country's most remote regions.
As a key agency under Brazil's Ministry of Education, CAPES plays a vital role in advancing postgraduate education, supporting high-level training, and fostering international scientific collaboration. Around 40% of Brazilian research output is internationally collaborative, with many strong bilateral partnerships with the United States. It also participates in larger collaborations involving the U.S., the U.K., Spain, Germany, and France. Compared with other internationally collaborative output, these partnerships are producing papers with above average impact.
Its research output shows a strong focus on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Zero Hunger (SDG 2) and Life on Land (SDG 15), with impact for both around 0.7 to 0.8 times the world average.
More broadly, Brazilian research output has a strong focus on the Life Sciences, while its output in Medicine has impact around 1.1 times the world average.

A sneak preview of the first batch of deep space imagery from the new Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile made its way to news sites and social media last week, followed by a livestream event. The observatory's 3,200-megapixel camera is used for a full-sky scan that happens every three to four days. Stunning images that the observatory shares are only a fraction of what is being captured, in some cases showing only 2 percent of the full view, which would require 400 HDTVs to show. One image can capture 10 million galaxies. Closer to Earth, astronomers have discovered 1 million asteroids in our solar system and expect to discover 5 million more in the next few years.

Colombia is seeking to borrow as much as $10 billion in Swiss francs to fund the repurchase of more expensive liabilities in a bid to rein in the nation's burgeoning debt service costs. Chinese Firm in Talks to Import Distillers Grains From Brazil
Commodity trader Xiamen C&D Inc. is in talks to import distillers grains from Brazil as China prepares to begin sourcing the protein-rich feed ingredient from the South American nation. The company is seeking crop processors with combined capacity to supply more than 500,000 metric tons a year of distillers dried grains, a byproduct of corn ethanol production used in livestock feed, according to Liu Wei, a general representative for C&D in Brazil. The business is also weighing investment in Brazilian producers of DDGs, as the feedstock is known.
