Michael Douglas To Present Newly Restored ‘One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest' At Karlovy Vary
Douglas will be joined by Zaentz's nephew Paul Zaentz (producer of The English Patient and The Talented Mr. Ripley) as well as members of Forman's family, to present the restored version of the 1975 classic at a special gala screening as part of Karlovy Vary's 'Out of the Past' section this year.

Forman's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The Jack Nicholson starrer, which was originally announced in 1962 with Kirk Douglas attached, ended up winning five Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Actor (Nicholson), Best Actress (Louise Fletcher), Best Director (Forman) and Best Screenplay (Lawrence Hauben and Bo Goldman).
The special screening in Karlovy Vary also honors the festival's long-standing ties to the classic film. Czech-American director Forman was a loyal supporter of the festival and he, along with Douglas, Zaentz and actor Danny DeVito, who also starred in the film, are all recipients of the festival's Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema.
Adapted from Ken Kesey's novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest follows Randle McMurphy, a rebellious gambler whose defiance of authority challenges the rigid confines of a mental institution. A powerful parable of freedom versus control, the film marked a turning point in Forman's career and paved the way for his later international successes.
'We are truly honored to present One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest on its 50th anniversary,' said KVIFF Executive Director Kryštof Mucha. 'The presence of Michael Douglas, Paul Zaentz and the Forman family will make this an unforgettable moment in the festival's history.'
The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival takes place July 4-12.

The slur was frequently used during the COVID-19 Pandemic when anti-Asian hate crimes surged worldwide. This incident comes as Gallagher is set to join his brother, Noel, for Oasis' long-awaited reunion. The legendary British rock band will play together for the first time 15 years. The reunion comes 30 years after Oasis skyrocketed to fame with the release of its debut album, 'Definitely Maybe' in 1994. ‘80s metal band cancels shows so lead singer can have emergency surgery
Saxon have canceled ten summer gigs as lead singer, Biff Byford, 'undergoes an emergency procedure.' The legendary British metal band announced 'the immediate cancellation/postponement of 10 shows across a six-week period' on Facebook Monday, June 30. Among these shows include Saxon's performances Wacken Open Air, Pol'And' Rock, Summer Breeze, Ekenäs, Area 53 and Öland Rock festivals. 'Saxon were so looking forward to performing at all the below Summer festivals and events, but the health and wellbeing of the band obviously has to come first,' a spokesperson for Saxon's management company said. 'It goes without saying that all in Saxon are gutted that they will be unable to perform but look forward to hopefully being back on stage in time to play both Trutnoff Open Air Festival in Czech Republic on August 23rd and Neuborn Open Air on August 29th. The band are also very much looking forward to their upcoming tours of both Spain, France and the UK later this year too.' Saxon are still expected to several European shows from July 12 to Aug. 16. 'Saxon are sorry for any inconvenience caused to fans and ask for everyone's patience and understanding at this time,' the band wrote. 'The band are currently working with all the promoters of the above events to see as to whether any of these shows and appearances can be rescheduled.' Groundbreaking punk band plays final live show in Amsterdam
Gang of Four's live performance run has come to an end. The the legendary British post-punk band played its final show of their farewell tour at Amsterdam's Paradiso on Saturday night, July 5. The show put a cap on Gang of Four's "Long Goodbye Tour,' which was meant to celebrate the band's pioneering music. The tour started in North America in Boston on April 20. 'After 45 years, the band will tour North America for the very last time, playing the album front to back, followed by a second set filled with fan-favorites and hit songs,' a social media post about the tour reads. Gang of Four's tour also paid tribute to the 45th anniversary of the band's 1979 debut album, 'Entertainment!' NME reported Gang of Four played 'Entertainment!' in full at the start of the Amsterdam show. They then follow-up with a second set packed with other hits, including 'I Love A Man In Uniform,' 'To Hell With Poverty' and 'Elevator.'
