West Virginia track state champion makes political statement during award ceremony
During the West Virginia State Track Meet over the weekend, Hadley Horne, a senior from Grafton High School, became a repeat West Virginia state champion in the Class AA girls 300 meter hurdles, with a time of 45.41, more than a second faster than second place and the third fastest time across all three classifications.
During her award ceremony, Horne chose to wear a shirt that said 'Men don't belong in women's sports.' A photo of the ceremony is going viral on social media, with thousands of people voicing their opinions on the Save Women's Sports Act, the West Virginia law that says student athletes must compete based on the sex they were assigned at birth. The law was deemed unconstitutional by the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals last year and is not currently enforceable.
North central West Virginia athletes win 26 events at State Track Meet
Horne's shirt was likely in response to transgender athlete Becky Pepper-Jackson competing in the girls AAA discus and shot put at the championship meet. Pepper-Jackson, who was assigned male at birth and competed as a freshman for Bridgeport High School, finished 3rd place in the girls discus throw and 8th place in the girls shot put, scoring a total of seven points for Bridgeport's girls team.
The case of Becky Pepper-Jackson (B.P.J.) vs the West Virginia Board of Education regarding West Virginia's Save Women's Sports Act has been ongoing since 2021.
Gov. Morrisey, who has been trying to get the case to the U.S. Supreme Court, said on Saturday that he is 'urging officials to keep separate scores so that the true winners can be awarded once we win in court,' calling Pepper-Jackson competing on the girls' side 'wrong and unfair.'

Broncos roster: WR Courtney Jackson (No. 89) could be a candidate to return kicks
Broncos Wire's 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at rookie wide receiver Courtney Jackson, No. 89. Before the Broncos: Jackson (5-11, 189 pounds) spent his final two college seasons at Arkansas State after spending 2019-22 at Syracuse University. As a member of the Orange, Jackson led the team in 2021 with 39 catches for 389 yards, earning an All-ACC mention from Pro Football Focus. Jackson transferred to Arkansas State in 2023, where he was a receiver and a punt returner. In 2023, Jackson had a 60-yard punt return and posted a 100-plus-yard receiving game against Texas State. In his Red Wolves career, Jackson had 81 receptions for 1,183 yards and nine touchdowns. As a returner, Jackson had 31 opportunities to run the ball back, returning the rock for 438 yards and three touchdowns in two seasons. Broncos tenure: Jackson was part of Denver's initial wave of undrafted free agent signings after the 2025 NFL draft in April. Jackson will make his Broncos debut during preseason in August. Chances to make the 53-man roster: Long shot. As two-time Pro Bowler Marvin Mims became more of a dynamic threat at wide receiver late in the 2024 season, the Broncos may be looking to have additional options at kick returner for the 2025 season. Therefore, although Jackson faces long odds to make the active roster, his return ability will help his odds. He might be stashed on the practice squad as a backup receiver/returner. Fabrizio Romano reveals ‘the priority' for Chelsea player this summer as potential deal brews
There is a potential deal brewing up still for one Chelsea player this summer as Fabrizio Romano reveals his priority. It's not just this potential deal that is brewing up right now, there are plenty of stories arising for Chelsea as we approach the latter end of this summer transfer window. EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea open club-to-club talks to sign star after getting the player buy-in! Chelsea seem to be getting closer to signing Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig and they have been helped there after Leipzig have declared their desire to sign a current Chelsea player, opening the door for a big swap deal to be done this summer. And one story that caused outrage amongst the fan base yesterday was Chelsea apparently now wanting to sell Trevoh Chalobah over the always injured Wesley Fofana, which really is just madness. The Jackson story continues Fabrizio Romano has been on this one with constant reports linking Manchester United to Nicolas Jackson – so something is certainly going on here. But so far at least, nothing has move on or advanced, and we are yet to hear that Jackson will definitely be leaving the club this summer. However, the Jackson story still has a lot to play out in the next six weeks I feel, for sure. Romano's latest on Jackson Nicolas Jackson in action against Manchester City. (Photo by) The transfer expert has written his latest on Jackson and United on GIVEMESPORT this week. He says: 'Nicolas Jackson will be one to watch in the final month of the summer transfer window. 'His situation at Chelsea remains open; he's not out of the project or guaranteed exit this summer, but there's a strong chance for Jackson to leave as Chelsea are open to doing business on their terms. 'Sources reveal that in recent days, Manchester United have been approached with the opportunity to proceed and start talks for Nicolas Jackson. 'He's been offered as one of the chances for Man United to add a new striker as the next main priority for Ruben Amorim after Mbeumo and Cunha, so Chelsea have opened their doors to United. 'According to sources close to the negotiations, Chelsea still maintain an interest in Alejandro Garnacho as an option in case Manchester United want to open a proper negotiation for Nicolas Jackson; the message has been received at Carrington, as United are aware of Chelsea's potential interest in Garnacho and they are open to discussing conditions of a swap deal involving Nicolas Jackson. 'Nicolas Jackson also would not close his doors to a move to Manchester United even without Champions League or European football next season. 'The priority for Jackson would be to stay at Chelsea and fight for his place, but if it isn't possible, United would be considered as a good option.'

NFL legend DeSean Jackson confident he can turn HBCU around
BALTIMORE, MD - DeSean Jackson has dazzled fans for years as an NFL superstar. Now, he's looking to make his mark from the sidelines as he begins his first season leading HBCU Delaware State University. The former Pro Bowl wide receiver and first-time head coach arrived at MEAC Media Day with swagger, vision-and something to prove. "Coach Jack in the building, 2025 MEAC Day, man. DSU Hornets, we in the building, let's get it," Jackson declared. Despite being picked to finish last in the MEAC preseason poll, Jackson didn't flinch. He made it clear that his squad is ready to compete. "We not where we wanna be at, but we climbing," he said. "By training camp, in our first game of the year, we gonna be ready-full force, with speed, ready to go." Jackson's hiring has brought a wave of attention to the program. A big reason? His former NFL teammate Michael Vick is now the head coach at Norfolk State. The two will square off on October 30 at Lincoln Financial Field-the same stadium where they both played as Philadelphia Eagles. "When I sat in this seat as head coach, I knew we was playing Michael Vick-it was only right for us to get that game at The Linc," Jackson said. "It's a dream come true." He added that he personally pushed to move the game to the NFL venue, and Vick quickly bought in. Jackson hasn't avoided the hard truths about DSU's past. The program has won just two games over the past two seasons. He's using those struggles to fuel a culture shift. "They lost six games in the fourth quarter last year," he said. "That's a mentality thing, a fatigue thing, and we've been addressing it since day one." His message is clear: the Hornets are rebuilding brick by brick-and not backing down from anyone. Two veterans who remained through the transition-linebacker Brian Bates and running back Marquis Gillis-were chosen to represent the team at media day. Both praised Jackson's leadership and energy. "It's amazing to have another coach come in and rebrand the whole thing," Bates said. "Practices are fun. We get after it every single day." Gillis added, "It's a culture change. You've got somebody of that stature giving back to an HBCU. It's not just Coach Jackson-it's the whole staff and the energy they bring." No Apologies, No Suit, No Prisoners Jackson brought that same authenticity to media day, showing up in a team polo rather than the traditional suit. At 38, he's the youngest coach in the MEAC and the most relatable to his players-some of whom grew up watching him. He knows the league is full of seasoned coaches, but he and Vick aren't intimidated. "Some of these guys, their track record-it's long. But for me and Vick, it's our first year coaching. We got a lot to learn, but we're confident and competitive," he said. "We don't care how long you've been coaching. When it's time to line up-put your best up, I'll put mine up, and let's get it on." "After the game, we shake hands and show respect. But during those three hours? It's gonna get real. We take no prisoners." DeSean Jackson has officially put the HBCU world-and the MEAC-on notice. It's a new day at Delaware State. The post NFL legend DeSean Jackson confident he can turn HBCU around appeared first on HBCU Gameday. Copyright HBCU Gameday 2012-2025
