A 15-year-old martial artist from Swindon has brought home a silver medal from the Junior Brazilian Jiu Jitsu World Championships.
Roman, a Year 10 pupil at Lawn Manor Academy, competed in the championships in Wolverhampton, representing the yellow belt division.
The dedicated sportsman has been practising Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for six years after his father introduced him and the rest of the family to the sport.
Roman talked about his dedication to the sport, saying: "It's a conscious practice now.
"I train every day.
"It's not just about physical strength, it's about staying sharp, thinking ahead, and staying positive.
"It's helped me stay active and thinking positively and it's good for mental health too.
"Jiu Jitsu is like a community and I've met loads of people and made friends all over the country through competitions."
Roman's commitment to the sport has already seen him win gold at the Welsh Jiu Jitsu Open earlier this year.
He has more competitions lined up for the rest of the year, including the Somerset Open in Weston-super-Mare, where he will again represent Swindon among the country's top young fighters.
Roman also has big ambitions for the future, with plans to compete against the best fighters in the world at the prestigious IBJJF Brazilia and Pan Championships.
Russell Langdown, the head of the school at Lawn Manor Academy, praised Roman's achievements.

He said: "We're very proud of the immense sporting talent we have at Lawn Manor, across all sports and disciplines.
"Physical activity is so important to all aspects of life, inside and outside of school, and as Roman rightly says, it can nurture a positive and resilient mindset that will benefit him in everything that he does."
Lawn Manor Academy is part of the Ascend Learning Trust.

Harrington wins Senior Open to join exclusive club

Ireland's Padraig Harrington has become only the fifth player to win the Open and Senior Open after a three-stroke victory at Sunningdale. The 53-year-old beat Justin Leonard and Thomas Bjorn as his final round of 67 took him to 16 under for the tournament. Harrington joins Darren Clarke, Tom Watson, Gary Player and Bob Charles as the only men to win both editions of the Open. He won the Open in back-to-back years in 2007 and 2008. It is a third Senior major for Harrington, who also won the US Open in 2022 and in June this year. He also finished tied for second at the Senior PGA Championship after missing out to Angel Cabrera by one stroke. Northern Ireland's Clarke finished tied for 51st after he finished two over for the tournament.

England's Lucy Bronze says she played in Euros with fractured leg: ‘It's painful but I'm going to party'

England defender Lucy Bronze says that she played the entirety of the Women's European Championship tournament with a fractured tibia in her left leg. The 33-year-old played in all six of England's successful Euro campaign, including playing 105 minutes in the final against Spain, which England won via a penalty kick shootout. However, the Chelsea defender, who was taken off at half-time of extra-time with a knee injury, revealed after the final whistle that she had entered the tournament with an injury. Speaking to BBC Sport after the win, she said: 'I've played the whole tournament with a fractured tibia, but nobody knee, and I've hurt my knee today on my other leg. 'Which is why the girls gave me a lot of love after the Sweden game because I've been in a lot of pain. If that is what it takes to play for England, that is what I'll do. It's very painful, but I'm going to party.' Advertisement Bronze had several key moments during the tournament, including a pivotal penalty during the shootout victory over Sweden on July 17. The defender celebrated with her teammates with a visible bandage on her right knee and was seen struggling to walk during post-match jubilation. The Euros victory was Bronze's 26th career trophy. 'We never lost belief in ourselves,' she added. 'There was a lot of noise on the outside, but we stuck together. To go to extra time back to back to back is incredible. We give each other energy and what we've done today is incredible. 'I don't think we were thinking too much about the World Cup (final defeat). It always goes that they win, then we win, then they win, so it was our turn today. 'To win on penalties is an amazing feeling but to lose on penalties is the worst feeling. They (Spain) are great players and they've achieved a lot. It wasn't meant for them today, it was meant for England.'

Padraig Harrington wins Senior British Open for his second senior major title this year

BERKSHIRE, England — Padraig Harrington was so focused on his game that he didn't notice a leaderboard or see Rory McIlroy walking in the gallery Sunday at the Senior British Open. He closed with a 3-under 67 to win his second senior major of the year. Staked to a two-shot lead, Harrington made eagle on the first hole on the Old Course at Sunningdale and no one got closer than two shots the rest of the way as he became the fifth player with a Senior British Open and a British Open title. He won by three shots over Thomas Bjorn (67) and Justin Leonard (68). 'I'm thrilled to have won but very satisfied that I've won a Senior Open with my two Opens,' Harrington said. 'The fact that only five people have ever done it is quite special. I'm quite proud that I've managed to survive this long in the game.' He joined Darren Clarke, Tom Watson, Gary Player and Bob Charles as players to have won the British Open and the senior version. McIlroy walked around for a bit on the London-area course, though it wasn't much of a show. Harrington seized control late in the third round and never gave anyone much of a chance. Bjorn made a late charge to get within two shots, but that ended with a bogey on the 16th. 'The only time I saw a leaderboard was on 18,' said Harrington, who said he asked his caddie for an update on the 17th hole. 'Was fully focused on what I was doing. The Irishman was surprised to hear McIlroy, who is building a home in London, was at Sunningdale for the final round. 'I didn't see him out there. Was he out there?' Harrington said. 'I had the head down all day. I never saw anybody. I had no idea.' Harrington now has 11 titles on the PGA Tour Champions, and he has won multiple times each of the last four seasons. He won the U.S. Senior Open last month at The Broadmoor. And he nearly won the Senior PGA Championship at Congressional until a late two-shot swing gave the title to Angel Cabrera. ___ AP golf:
