John F Kennedy Got A Flight Attendant Pregnant And Paid For Abortion, New Book Claims

NDTV26-06-2025
Former US President John F Kennedy once got a flight attendant pregnant, and then paid for her abortion, just months after his wife, Jackie, gave birth to their daughter, Caroline, a new book has claimed. According to People, the claims were made in a bombshell new biography, titled 'JFK: Public, Private, Secret', by J. Randy Taraborrelli. Excerpts from the book reveal that Mr Kennedy had an affair with a young flight attendant named Joan Lundberg, whom he met in 1956 when he was a senator from Massachusetts.
According to the book, at the time, the former president was 39 years old, while Ms Lundberg was 23. In 1958, shortly after the birth of the Kennedys' daughter Caroline, Ms Lundberg reportedly called JFK to share her own pregnancy news.
"Joan would recall that her news about the baby was 'like a knife to Jack's heart," reads the excerpt, per the People.
"Jack couldn't help but wonder if Joan had purposely planned the pregnancy, given that she'd seen his devotion to Jackie after Caroline's birth. He also wondered if he was really the father, and Joan assured him he was," the author wrote.
Further, the book claims that after their phone call revelation, Mr Kennedy told the 23-year-old that he would mail her $400 to get an abortion. "'Being a politician is who I am,' he told her. 'Politics is all I know. If you take that away . . .' His voice trailed off. Before she could respond, he disconnected the line," the excerpt states.
According to the biography, when the money failed to reach Ms Lundberg, JFK became "unhinged". Eventually, he wired more money, following which the flight attendant "took care of things".
"Jack was very clear; he didn't want Joan to have the baby... She was angry and disappointed, but also realistic," Mr Taraborrelli writes.
According to People, Ms Lundberg was a single mom of two. At the time, she was living with a man named Norm Bishop and working as a flight attendant for Frontier Airlines.
JFK, on the other hand, was married to Jacqueline Kennedy at the time. He never publicly acknowledged the affair.
'JFK: Public, Private, Secret', by J. Randy Taraborrelli, is due to be published on July 17.

CM Naidu orders formation of State-level executive, advisory panels for implementing P4 initiative

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu ordered the formation of State-level executive and advisory committees for effective implementation of the P4 (Public - Private - People - Partnership) initiative in the maiden general body meeting of the Swarna Andhra P4 Foundation held at the Secretariat on Friday. It was decided to form P4 chapters in each one of the district headquarters and in the constituencies. Addressing the meeting, Mr. Naidu said the government was implementing the P4 policy to improve the living standards of the poor, and told the officials to identify 15 lakh'Bangaru Kutumbams' and one lakh mentors by August 15. He noted that the P4 initiative was intended to extend long-term support to the poor, and said NRIs, industrialists and wealthy individuals should be roped in to hand-hold the poor families. He said the objective of the P-4 initiative was to eliminate poverty by 2029, while recalling the overwhelming response received by the Janmabhoomi programme, which helped create assets in villages and towns. Through P4, it was contemplated to assist the poor, thereby reducing inequalities. The top 10% of the rich people must be connected with the bottom 20%, who were languishing in poverty, he advised, and that the help being extended by the likes of Gates Foundation, Vedanta and GMR should be utilised. Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand and others took part. The Chief Minister approved a logo for the P-4 initiative.

Collector stresses timely selection of mentors for adopted ‘Golden Families'

Nandyal: District Collector G Rajakumari has directed officials to expedite the process of selecting mentors for the identified 'Golden Families' under the P4 initiative. The Collector emphasized that the selection process should be carried out efficiently to ensure timely support and guidance for the families aimed at economic upliftment. The directive came following a Zoom video conference held on Friday by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu with district collectors, ministers, and MLAs from the state secretariat in Vijayawada. During the meeting, the Chief Minister outlined a clear roadmap of actions to be taken under the Public-Private-People Participation (P4) model. He stated that the initiative aims to reduce economic disparities and enhance the overall quality of life for every citizen. The Chief Minister described the P4 model as a game-changer for the future, stressing the need to identify zero-poverty households and provide them with consistent support, guidance, and skill development opportunities. He urged that mentors must take personal responsibility in transforming these families into economically self-reliant units. He also announced the establishment of the 'Swarnandhra P4 Foundation,' which will focus on improving standards in education, healthcare, and livelihoods. The ultimate goal, he said, is to eliminate poverty in the first phase by 2029, calling on all stakeholders to dedicate themselves to this collective mission. After the video conference, Collector Rajakumari reaffirmed the district's commitment to implementing the P4 initiative effectively. She stated that all guidelines and instructions issued by the Chief Minister would be carefully followed to ensure the program's success at the grassroots level. Chief Planning Officer Venu Gopal and other key officials also participated in the meeting.

Kuppam (Chittoor district): ChiefMinister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday unveiled a broad development plan for Kuppam, promising sweeping changes across healthcare, infrastructure, livelihoods, and governance. Speaking at a public meeting, he said Kuppam would soon stand as a model constituency for the entire state. Naidu announced that 10,393 'golden families' in Kuppam have been identified under the State's P4 (Public-Private-People Partnership) programme. Each family will be linked with a mentor to support their progress. He also said that grievances and issues in the constituency would be addressed through the newly launched 'Jananayakudu' portal. On the healthcare front, Naidu shared that digital health records are being developed for Kuppam residents, with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Tata Trusts. 'This pilot project is aimed at improving people's health and will later be expanded across the district and state,' he said. In a first-of-its-kind initiative, 130 electric autos are now collecting wet and dry waste across Kuppam. Naidu said the constituency has become the first in the state to adopt such a model of sustainable waste management. Infrastructure development was another key highlight. Naidu announced plans to upgrade Kuppam railway station and improve connectivity to Chennai and Bengaluru. He also promised a four-lane road between Palamaner and Krishnagiri, and a parallel route from Kuppam to Hosur. 'Kuppam is fast emerging as a central hub connecting key cities. A spectacular transformation is coming,' he said. The Chief Minister also announced the distribution of 3,775 additional pensions in Kuppam, reiterating the government's commitment to cover all eligible beneficiaries. He stressed the need to promote entrepreneurship through the 'One Family, One Entrepreneur' scheme. 'We have already built Gokulam sheds and distributed cows to every household. These cows are now becoming a source of steady income. In the near future, Kuppam will produce 10 lakh litres of milk,' he said. Plans are also underway to develop Kuppam as a tourist destination and a horticulture hub, creating job opportunities for local youth.
