#SHOWBIZ: Fortune smiles on ex-action star

ALMOST two years after announcing his retirement from acting, Hairul Azreen reveals that he continues to receive offers, including becoming a sports brand ambassador.
The actor, known for action movies such as 'Paskal', 'Polis Evo 2' and 'Wira' says that his time since retiring has been largely spent with his family.
"Now I can take care of the children, send them to and from school, including training. The children's and my schedule during the week can be quite busy,
"After quitting acting, I got offers to be an ambassador for several brands.
"I thought I would have lots of time to focus on my children after leaving showbiz, but it turned out that I still had work. I still have blessings in other forms."
Hairul admitted to being a little worried about how not working as an actor any more would affect his income.
But the husband of actress Hanis Zalikha said that he put his trust in God's hands and expressed his belief in divine providence.
"I used to wonder what my income would be like when I stopped acting. But, thank God, I received two offers to become an ambassador," he said.
"Before quitting, I told my wife that I was all right with living a simpler life. Maybe people will not know me or care about me, but I did not care about any of that.
"When I quit, other forms of sustenance will come," he told BH Online.
The 37-year-old actor encouraged others not to fear change.
"People are often afraid to change jobs, but in reality, God's provision is vast. It depends on the individual and whether they dare to do new things or not," he said.
Hairul announced his retirement in August 2023 while appearing as a guest on Era FM's 3 'Pagi Era' segment.
The military action film 'Malbatt: Misi Bakara', released on Aug 24, 2023, marked his final appearance as an actor.
However, in October 2024, Hairul made headlines again when he announced his involvement as a professional e-sports player for the Selangor Red Giants team.

Athlete, convert to Catholicism, and future priest: The story of Josh Brooks

However, God had other plans for him. Today, Brooks is in his third year of university studies at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and is preparing for the priesthood. 'I don't want to just live for myself, but I want to bring the joy God gave me to other people,' Brooks said in a recent interview with Catholic Philly, the official newspaper of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Raised in the Baptist faith, Brooks had his first contact with Catholicism when his parents enrolled him at St. Ignatius Loyola Elementary School in West Philadelphia. Later, at Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast High School, his interest in the Catholic faith grew. 'And really slowly, my attention was gravitating toward my Catholic theology classes, where I learned about the identity of the priest. What really attracted me was learning about how the Catholic Church is a universal family, 'cause I didn't have the best family growing up, so that just made me feel like I was called to be part of something special,' Brooks shared. Although during his teenage years he spent a lot of time practicing in order to make the high school basketball team, he ultimately failed to achieve that dream. 'So this left me wondering with the question of what I was going to do with my life if basketball, which was my bid dream, was no longer an option,' he recounted. In his search for meaning, he tried to fill the void with a romantic relationship, but realized his heart longed for something deeper. Uncertain of his calling, he asked the young lady, 'Would you be able to wait for me?' She replied, 'I'm not going to wait for you.' So I looked up at the crucifix and I said to the Lord, 'If she will not wait for me, then who will?' And then I realized the whole time he was waiting for me, for me to accept his love. He said 'You idiot, I have the best love to give you.'' That moment marked a turning point. 'I think I just reacted without thinking, And look what that brought me. It brought me so much joy, this intense fire to just want to be for God and just be for others,' Brooks reflected. At St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, he found not only a vocation, but also brothers. 'I never had any brothers, so I didn't know what having one would be like. So when I entered seminary, you have different guys with different interests, different personalities. At the heart of it all, these guys are trying to build off each other,' he said. Fellow seminarian Sean Barker highlighted Josh's fraternal spirit. At a 'Come and See' retreat 'I walked right in and the first person I saw was Josh sitting in his cassock,' he recalled. 'Just talking to him, getting to know him, I felt more at ease. He cares about and has a great respect and admiration for the deep historical spirituality of the Church.' 'He wants me to be better, he wants me to spend more time in chapel, to take prayer life more seriously, to take academics more seriously...I think that's just him as a role model is what inspires me most,' Baker added. In the interview, Josh highlighted the 'rich tradition and history' of the Catholic Church, but also that it's 'one big family.' He also invited others trying to rediscover their faith to come closer: 'We are an imperfect people, but we are being governed by a God who transcends all things and knows us better than we know ourselves,' he said. What most defines this young seminarian is his deep prayer life and his desire to become a priest. Although his parents are not Catholic, they support his vocation, and he prays every day for their conversion. 'At the heart of our search for the highest form of love, we'll find it here, where we gather at the altar of God and we'll be able to make our dwelling in him,' the young seminarian summed up.--CNA

#SHOWBIZ: Is Zizi Kirana-Yusuf Bahrin's marriage in trouble?

KUALA LUMPUR: Celebrity couple Zizi Kirana and Yusuf Bahrin have reportedly unfollowed each other on Instagram, leading to speculation about the status of their marriage. Adding to the conjecture, recent news reports indicate a noticeable absence of joint photos on their social media accounts, a stark contrast to their previous uploads. Zizi, 40, last posted a picture of her 33-year-old husband on June 8, commemorating his birthday. In a recent post on Threads, Zizi hinted at personal struggles, sharing: "This year I've been tested, but God still gave me a chance to pick myself up after the fall. Praise be to God, while not everyone understands my journey, God is never far away from me. O Lord, please forgive my mistakes in the past, and keep me blessed from now on, and do not let me go through everything without You." Her latest Instagram update features a video of the recitation of the al-Waqiah verses from the Quran. A quick review of Yusuf's Instagram reveals he has solely been sharing work-related updates. His last post featuring Zizi was on her birthday, accompanied by a heartfelt caption: "A 'roller coaster' ride (in a relationship) is normal, everyone has to face it. The important thing is how well is the ending. Praise be to God, Allah still keeps you alive, and still allowing us to live together." The couple tied the knot on September 19, 2021, after meeting during the recording of the entertainment programme 'All Together Now Malaysia.'

Selangor Red Giants ready to roar into Mid Season Cup defence

KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor Red Giants (SRG. OG) believe they have matured into a stronger, more composed team as they prepare to defend their Mid Season Cup (MSC) title at the eSports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from July 23-Aug 2. The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) powerhouse made history by winning the MSC on debut in Riyadh last year. Coach Michael Angelo Bocado, better known as Arcadia, knows the road to a second title will be far tougher. The Filipino tactician believes his players have grown significantly since that historic win, with their maturity evident in their recent Mobile Legends: MPL Malaysia (MPL MY) campaign, where they secured a third consecutive league title last month. "We're ready for the MSC mission," said Bocado at the Malaysia Esports Accelerator Programme (MEAP) launch at the ESI Hub, Spacerubix in Puchong on Thursday. "We've had enough time to adapt to the meta and are now very confident in our understanding of the game. "There's a huge difference from last year — then, it was our first international event together, and we lacked experience. Now, we're calmer, more seasoned, and we know what to expect at this level." SRG. OG are among nine Malaysian eSports teams to receive MEAP funding, ranging from RM5,000 to RM40,000, to help cover costs for international tournaments. Other MLBB recipients include Homebois and Navi eSports, while Nova eSports, Black Shrew eSports, and Alpha Gaming (Honor of Kings) also received support. Homebois will compete in the eFootball Championship Open in Japan, WPS Hariz will feature in the IESF World Esports Championship, and Axle Sports will represent Malaysia at the Asia Pacific Motorsport Championship. Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim said eSports has evolved beyond leisure into a billion-ringgit industry. "MEAP reflects the government's commitment to supporting local talent on the global stage," said Adam. "The programme does not just focus on gameplay but also addresses the mental and physical wellbeing of players. "We'll expand MEAP to include other titles like Tekken 8, Street Fighter, and Tetris — even if they don't have official competitions. "Any Malaysian representing the country internationally remains eligible for MEAP support. We won't let our talents miss these opportunities."
