Welsh Games Companies Share £850,000 Funding Boost
The Games Scale Up Fund for Wales is the first scheme of its kind. It was launched earlier this year by Creative Wales in partnership with UK Games Fund, who managed the applications.
Its aim is to help Wales-based developers take their games projects from a pilot to a more substantial and self-sustaining model, by allowing for growth in scope, reach and impact.
A total of £850,000 in funding support has been awarded to six companies: Cloth Cat
COPA Gaming
Goldborough Studios
Rocket Science
Sugar Creative
Wales Interactive
The announcement follows a successful trade mission to the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco in March, where five out of the six awarded companies joined the Cymru Wales stand to showcase their projects, meet major industry leaders and build new connections.

The feedback they received from international publishers confirms what we already know – Wales is becoming a significant player in the global gaming landscape.'
Creative Wales currently has another fund open for applications. The Games Development Fund, closing on Thursday 5 June, offers between £10,000 to £50,000 to Wales-based businesses developing video and immersive games projects for commercial release.

Credit: PA The US-based company — a major player in Aberdeen's oil and gas sector — has handed out formal redundancy notices to over 4,500 employees in what's being branded a 'fire and rehire" threat. Sources say bosses have warned employees that if they don't agree, the company might go down the 'dismiss and re-engage' route — a legal, but controversial tactic due to be clamped down on by new UK laws. An insider told the Press and Journal: 'Essentially the business is looking to impose a 25% reduction in pension contributions under an excessive timeline, which currently is legal, but looks to be timed just before the amendment of the employee rights bill that would outlaw this practice. 'Too often oil and gas workers of the UK are forgotten about, and need to be vocal'. Newer workers who joined after 1 August 2024 already face lower pension terms and won't be affected by the latest move. But others could be hit hard from 1 January 2026, unless a deal is struck. Baker Hughes runs key hubs in Montrose, Portlethen, Peterhead, and Dyce, with its UK headquarters in Aberdeen, managing operations as far as Norway and the Caspian. To add fuel to the fire, the row comes just weeks after the firm sealed a £900 million pension deal to protect payouts for over 7,000 retired staff. A Baker Hughes spokesperson said: 'Baker Hughes regularly reviews its global benefit offerings to ensure that we remain an employer of choice, while also maintaining sustainable business practices. "In the wake of a review that began in 2024, the company recently communicated an upcoming proposed change in pension plans which would align with the current offering to new hires in the UK from 1st August 2024. The forecast in Cardiff, according to the BBC, predicts sunny intervals and a moderate breeze, with temperatures reaching 21 degrees. It's a pleasant day in the Welsh capital today, with a refreshing breeze and sunny spells, which should hopefully continue into Friday when the Wonderwall stars reunite. The band has already arrived in Cardiff to rehearse on stage and fans close to Westgate Street say they have heard the setlist in full. Earlier in the week, those near the town centre heard Cigarettes and Alcohol blasting out of the stadium. They were also treated to hits Some Might Say and F****n' In The Bushes. According to one fan on Reddit, Oasis is set to play an epic 24-song setlist. The fan revealed the rehearsal setlist, which teases what may be included in the live shows. They claimed it kicks off with an intro of F****n' in the Bushes then Hello, Acquiesce, Morning Glory followed by Some Might Say. Cigarettes & Alcohol is next, followed by Fade Away, Supersonic, Roll With It, Bring It On Down. It is believed Noel will take on Talk Tonight, Half the World Away, Little By Little. Oasis has already revealed the stage times for their shows in Cardiff as doors will open at 5pm before first support act Cast warm up the crowd at 6pm. Verve frontman and friend of the Gallaghers, Richard Ashcroft will then take to the stage at 7pm. Then, at 8.15pm this Friday, Oasis will play for just over two hours before they will end the set for a 22.30pm curfew. Speaking about the first reunion gig, a source told us: "With a new lineup and it being such a huge first show, the boys will do some songs inside the venue too. Some tours would start with a smaller show or take a week or two to get into the groove again. "But there is no time for that, and also Liam and Noel want every night to be massive. This is such a huge comeback show, and they are taking it very seriously. It all points to it being an incredible comeback tour."

Ten restaurants are vying for the crown this year, and will be judged by a panel of some of the most recognisable names in food. These include Levi Roots, famed entrepreneur and musician; Clodagh McKenna, Irish celebrity chef and TV host; and last year's standout winner, Natty Crutchfield, whose restaurant went from cult hit to national fame. Now in their fourth year, the awards aim to recognise the contributions of small and independently run restaurants to their local communities and the food industry. In 2025, one standout restaurant will be crowned overall restaurant of the year, winning £100,000 to invest in its growth.
