Antwerp boss' vow over Celtic target Michel-Ange Balikwisha

Reports in Belgium had suggested Antwerp were willing to lower their asking price for the 24-year-old to £4.6 million as they are in need of the funds.
But new manager Wils has appeared to suggest he is keen to keep the player as part of his squad.
He told Belgian media: 'Of course I want to keep him. I also think that it can work.'

Lawrence Shankland gets honest over Hearts return reasons as striker admits he just couldn't close the door

The Scotland international has penned a three-year deal after ongoing talks with Derek McInnes over his future Lawrence Shankland admits he could NEVER close the door on Hearts after walking back through it to sign a new contract. The Tynecastle skipper has committed the next three years of his career to the Gorgie club after his previous contract ran out at the end of last season. ‌ It brings the summer signing saga to an end and Shankland revealed that talks with his family led him to the conclusion that home is where the Hearts are. ‌ "At the end of last season, I ran my contract to its end so I knew the situation I was in," he said. "I took a couple of weeks holiday to get married and after that I gave it a month to think about things and weigh up options and had a couple that popped up. "The way it worked out, the family side of things meant they just weren't right for me. "In the mean time, I'd been speaking to the manager about coming back here and I'd always left the door open. I couldn't seem to close the door behind me and that gave an indication of where my head might have been at. "After speaking to the family and where they want to be - especially my four-year-old Eva, who's in love with Jock the Jambo - it was back here. "So I'm happy with my decision and just looking forward to getting started again." ‌ New Hearts boss Derek McInnes never hid his desire to have Shankland in his ranks for this season. The pair worked together before at Aberdeen when Shankland was a youngster who didn't quite make the grade at Pittodrie. ‌ But McInnes now knows he has a lethal Scottish Premiership marksman at his disposal and Shankland said the key to their discussions over his future was honesty, "Just throughout the time, keeping in contact and being honest with each other," he told Hearts TV. "As long as there was honesty in the situation, I think both parties were happy to see how things went. "I always always keen to keep that door open for myself and it was important for me that the manager was happy to do that as well. ‌ "because of the situation when he came in and my contract was coming to an end, he understood where I was at as well. The honesty between us worked out in the end. "When it came to making my decision, it was an easy one really to get my head around." I'm a Rangers hero who has joined forces with ex Celtic rival — 9 years after putting him out of a job

It's a partnership that nobody could've predicted back in 2016 when they were Old Firm rivals Kenny Miller helped sign Ronny Deila's death warrant at Celtic. Now, the ex- Rangers striker is living the American Dream with his one-time Old Firm rival. ‌ Miller, 45, and former Hoops boss Deila have formed an unlikely managerial alliance in the MLS. ‌ Deila - who lifted three trophies at Parkhead - took over as head coach of Atlanta United at the start of the year, and appointed Miller as his right-hand man after they previously worked together at Al Wahda in the UAE Pro League. It's a partnership nobody could've predicted back in 2016, when Miller scored in Rangers' seismic Scottish Cup semi-final upset against Deila's crestfallen Celtic. The result proved the final nail in Deila's coffin, and just days later, he confirmed he was stepping down after two years at the helm. Since then, the Norwegian has rebuilt his reputation and carved out a solid CV - most notably leading New York City FC to their first MLS Cup triumph in 2021. Now he's back Stateside chasing more silverware - with a former Ibrox hero in his corner. In an exclusive interview with Record Sport, courtesy of Canada Crypto Casino, Miller said: "I knew Ronny from his time as Celtic manager, when I was a Rangers player at the time. ‌ "We didn't really face each other too much because of the league structure at the time. We were kind of on the way back up, and I think we played them in two semi-finals each year. "But yeah, we knew each other, and I always followed his career, he's been successful pretty much everywhere he's been." ‌ The pair linked up through Miller's agent, David Baldwin, and after a short stint in the Middle East, they jumped at the chance to reunite at one of America's biggest clubs. He said: "I've been working with Ronny for a year. I went with him to Al Wahda in the UAE League last July, we stayed until December and then we had the opportunity to join Atlanta United. "We both viewed the game the same way and he needed someone to come and work with him at Atlanta. ‌ "It's a huge club here in the MLS. They have a wonderful stadium, great fans, a great training ground and big expectations. "It suits both Ronny and I in terms of our ambitions and how we want to work and how much we want to succeed. "There's obviously some banter at times with the Rangers and Celtic connections, but we're also obviously really focused on turning the season around, getting the best out of the players and getting the club back to where they once were. ‌ "There's a really good support network above the manager in Atlanta. They give us everything they can to try and succeed. They put a lot in there. "And from my standpoint, where I was a player and now, I've moved into coaching, it feels like you're starting at the bottom again and learning new things. "So, to work with someone like Ronny, who has been a player but has also been coaching from a pretty young age and racked up so much experience now, it's been so good working with someone that experienced and who's achieved so much as well." ‌ Deila succeeded Neil Lennon at Parkhead in 2014 after leading Stromsgodset to the Tippeligaen title in Norway. He won two league titles and a League Cup in Glasgow, but later admitted the job came too early in his career. ‌ Still, he remains highly thought of by many in the Celtic support - and Miller reckons a return to Scottish football one day shouldn't be ruled out. For now, though, Deila's priority is reviving an Atlanta United side sitting 14th in the table after a poor start to the campaign. Miller added: "He still tracks Celtic. He's a football fan, so he's all over his football. He's always got a track on what's happening in his homeland in Norway, what's happening in the big leagues, but the fact is that Celtic obviously still holds a big place in his heart. ‌ "I think he was well-received at Celtic, he had success there. And these clubs leave a mark when you have success there, especially. "Could he go back to Scotland again? Maybe. There's no way of knowing for certain. You see managers go back to their old clubs. "Neil Lennon's done it with Celtic. And Ronny has been quite open in saying that he'd be much better prepared now to take the Celtic job and the challenges that come at that level. ‌ "When he was there, he was really young. Since then, he's managed New York and Atlanta, he's managed Standard Liege and Club Brugge. "I think all the experiences he's had would definitely prepare him to meet a return to Celtic head-on, if it ever happened. "For now, we've both got plenty of big challenges ahead in Atlanta, and I see first-hand how he attacks the job every single day. "If a return to Scotland ever came about, in his own words, he would be way more ready to deal with the challenges."

'It's the toughest decision in my career'

Leaving Celtic was "the toughest decision" Greg Taylor has made in his career as the Scotland defender signs with Greek outfit Brendan Rodgers wanted to retain the 27-year-old's services despite agreeing in January the return of fellow Scotland defender Tierney once his contract ran out this summer with Taylor said it would be "unfair" to pin his international teammate's return as the reason he moved on, the left-back admits there were "a million things to weigh up"."It's probably the toughest decision I've had in my career, definitely," he told Sky Sports."When I left Kilmarnock back in 2019, it was that bit easier because I was progressing. I wanted to go and try and play for the biggest team in Scotland."I think at that time there wasn't many that believed I would play as many games as I did, but the one person that really did was myself. "I was lucky to go and play 200 plus games for Celtic, which was unbelievable."It wasn't easy. There were a million things to weigh up, but I just felt it was the right time to do it. I wanted to play regularly and that's probably the big factor."
