Oman set up Iran final in Asian beach handball
The summit clash will kick off at 8 pm while the third and fourth playoff between Jordan and Pakistan will start at 7 pm at the same venue.
Oman team, coached by Hamood al Hasani, are all set with confidence to regain the title since the first title which was won in 2004 during the inaugural edition hosted in Muscat. Oman team had arrived to the final in six times but could not win the title except in the opening edition.
Oman team secured a slot in the final after a thrilling 2-0 win over Jordan in the semifinal while Iran beat Pakistan with the same result to seal their berth in the concluding match of the Asian event. Both Oman and Iran confirmed their presence in the forthcoming edition of the 2026 IHF Beach Handball World Championships.
Coach Hamood al Hassani and his assistant Jaber al Balushi worked out on a strong tactics to deliver top match against Iran and clinch a new Asian title. The coaching staff prepared the team players for today's assignment against heavyweights Iran team which managed to lift the title in 2022.

ONE STEP AWAY
Speaking ahead of the final encounter, coach Hamood said:' We are just one step away from the title in our home country. The final against Iran will depend on small areas and the team with less mistakes will get the title. I am fully confident that my players will deliver their outmost efforts towards earning a victory and clinching the title,' he said.
'Our tactics was to focus in each game as final in this tournament and we managed to win all the games until reaching the final. In the semifinal against Jordan, I did some tactical shifts and positional changes which kept the opposition off balance, proving decisive in securing the win,' he added.
Moosa bin Khamis al Balushi, Chairman of Oman Handball Association (OHA), appreciated team's fighting spirit in their semifinal triumph. 'Their performance was a true reflection of Omani grit and sportsmanship,' he said. 'We are proud of their qualification to the IHF World Championship next year and I hope they will now take the Asian title.'
Al Balushi urged fans to show up in full force for the final: 'I am looking forward to see more fans who are acting as the heartbeat of this team and their energy will be vital as we chase our second continental title,' he concluded.
FINAL CEREMONY
The final match of the Asian event and concluding ceremony will be held under patronage of His Highness Sayyid Azzan bin Qais al Said, Chairman of Oman Olympic Committee in presence of Dr Hassan Moustafa, International Handball Federation (IHF) President, and other top officials.
In the women's division, two matches are scheduled on Thursday. India will face Hong Kong and the match will kick at 5 pm while the title-deciding showdown between Vietnam and Philippines will start at 7 pm. Vietnam currently lead the standings with 10 points, followed by the Philippines with eight and both have punched their tickets to the 2026 IHF World Championship.

OTA launches intensive summer training in Egypt
MUSCAT: As part of the Oman Tennis Association's (OTA) efforts to prepare players for international competitions and enhance their technical levels, 14 male and female players are currently participating in a summer training camp in the Arab Republic of Egypt. This camp is part of the association's comprehensive preparation program, which targets various age groups. The camp will be conducted in two phases. The first phase runs from July 26 to August 15, while the second phase will be held from August 2 to 15. The training sessions are hosted at the 'Shamas Tennis Club Academy,' which is recognised as one of the top training institutions in the region. This camp falls under the association's broader strategy, led by President Mutasim al Zadjali, to develop and refine the skills of national team players, with the goal of enabling them to compete effectively in regional and international tournaments and increase their continental and global ranking points. The first phase includes players from the Under-14 and Under-18 categories. The Under-14 roster features Azan al Busaidy, Moataz al Mazrouei, Abdulrahman al Rahbi, Talia al Busaidy, Areen al Azkawi, and Salma al Riyami. This group is specifically preparing for the Arab Tennis Championship, which will take place in Tunisia from August 16 to 24, 2025. In the Under-18 category, participants include Waleed al Hashmi and Aisha al Busaidy. The delegation is overseen by coach Sarah al Balushi from the Oman Tennis Association (OTA). The second phase includes players in the Under-10 and Under-12 categories: Omar al Shaibani, Hatem al Rahbi, Hood al Hashmi, Mundhir al Amri, Imad al Rahbi, and Reema al Hashmi. Mundhir al Barwani, Secretary-General of the Oman Tennis Association (OTA), stated that the association has consistently organised such training camps annually due to their significant role in enhancing players' technical abilities and preparing them to represent the national teams effectively. He emphasised that age-group players, especially those under 14, benefit from these preparatory programmes. He noted that the current camp serves as preparation for the upcoming Arab Championship in Tunisia and confirmed that the remaining players will also have opportunities to compete in upcoming regional and international events. Al Barwani also highlighted the association's commitment to developing national team players by increasing their international exposure and organising high-quality training camps that help refine their talents. He added that Omani teams have participated in several international tournaments across various age groups recently and are preparing for upcoming challenges. Bangladesh seal first ever T20I series win against Pakistan
Dhaka: Bangladesh completed their first T20I series win against Pakistan, after prevailing in an eight-run win in the second game on Tuesday. The packed Shere Bangla National Stadium got a thrilling finish with the hosts staving off a late Faheem Ashraf onslaught. Pakistan's top six couldn't reach double digits in this game, with five having missed out in similar fashion in the previous outing too. This time it was their bottom-half that gave them some hope. Ashraf top scored with his maiden T20I half-century, having added 41 runs for the ninth wicket with Abbas Afridi. Bangladesh however kept their cool, particularly their pace trio of Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman and Tanzim Hasan putting pressure on the visitors. Bangladesh's start with the ball put them well in front, which also ultimately helped them get the win in the end. Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl first. Skipper Salman Agha's decision was proven correct as Faheem Ashraf, in the second over, removed Mohammad Naim (3) before Salman Mirza, in a span of three balls, got skipper Litton Das (8) caught out and Towhid Hridoy (0) run out to put Bangladesh under pressure early. Ahmed Daniyal then got the wicket of Parvez Emon (13) as Bangladesh lost four wickets inside the 10-over mark for just 53. Mahedi Hasan (33) tried to get Bangladesh back on track and added crucial runs for the fifth wicket with Jaker Ali before losing his wicket to Mohammad Nawaz. Shamim Hossain (1) was the next to depart after Ahmed Daniyal cleaned up his stumps, before Salman Mirza in the next over dismissed Tanzim Sakib (7) as Bangladesh lost their seventh wicket. Abbas Afridi, six balls later, cleaned up Rishad Hossain (8) as Bangladesh were pushed towards being bowled out. Shoriful Islam (1) was then run out while trying to get the in-form Jaker Ali back on strike in the final over. Jaker went on to score a brilliant 55 to take Bangladesh's total to 133 before being dismissed as the 10th wicket on the final ball of the innings. In reply, Pakistan lost their first wicket in the very first over as Saim Ayub (1) was run out on the last ball of the over. Mohammad Haris (0) was the next to depart in the very next over as Shoriful Islam got him trapped in front of the wicket. He then got Fakhar Zaman (8) caught behind as Pakistan were pushed on the back foot early in the chase. Tanzim then struck to remove Hasan Nawaz (0) and Mohammad Nawaz (0) on back-to-back deliveries to reduce Pakistan to 15 for 5. Skipper Salman Agha (9) stayed for 23 balls and tried to stabilise the innings but eventually fell victim to the run-rate pressure and lost his wicket to Mahedi Hasan while trying to clear the deep mid-wicket area. Khushdil Shah (13) then fell to Mehedi Hasan as Pakistan were reduced to 47 for 7. Abbas Afridi (19) played some good shots and added 41 runs for the eighth wicket with Faheem before losing his wicket to Shoriful Islam to give Bangladesh passage back into the match. Faheem Ashraf (51) then completed his half-century to get Pakistan on the verge of a win but was clean bowled by Rishad Hossain on the final ball of the 19th over. Pakistan needed 13 runs in the final over. Ahmed Daniyal (17) started the over with a boundary but lost his wicket on the second ball as Pakistan were bundled out for 125, eight runs short of the target.
