Flex it: This style guide is inspired by ‘protein bros'

It's hard to ignore the world's all-consuming (pun intended) love for protein right now. Everyone's either furiously glugging down protein shakes or drizzling protein powders on everything from icecream to bread. Naturally, this love's now also extending to fashion. The gym bro or protein bro aesthetic – defined by sleeveless tees and shirts (to flaunt those biceps), seamless body hugging tees, thigh skimming shorts ( to show that leg day is working), protein shakers that can seemingly do pretty much everything – is coming into its own and in recent years, the world of haute couture has taken note of it too with labels like Luar, Balenciaga, Bode and Natasha Zinko sending down models in cutaway tees, body hugging leggings, thigh-skimming gym shorts and torso-inspired jackets. Yes, this aesthetic is all about flexing your shapely muscles and rightly so. Treat this round up by Lounge as a ready reckoner on how to embrace the look without sweating it.
LEG DAY PREP
Let's start with footwear. Gym shoes are meant to be stylish but more than that they ought to be functional to power you through your workout regime – whether that involves running on the treadmill or heavy lifting. Bonus points if it's versatile enough to be worn socially. Balenciaga's 6XL sneakers check all the boxes. What makes these low mesh sneakers made from faux leather more interesting is each shoe is a different colour – while one is black with multi-coloured touches, the other is white and multi-coloured. These sneakers also feature the brand's logo debossed on the tongue. Available on Balenciaga.com; ₹1.03 lakh.

BICEPS FORMULA
Been fanatically working your bicep curls? Take a cue from actor Pedro Pascal's recent Cannes look where he showed up in a black sleeveless tee with his in- shape biceps on display for the world to see. This look is all about exuding confidence with simplicity. Available on Calvinklein.us; ₹6,156.
POWER SHAKE
Protein shakers may not be able to set all things right in this world but the way gym bros hold on to their bottles would have you thinking otherwise. A coveted gym essential today, there's a lot of thought that goes into picking one. Does it blend protein powders well? Is it leak proof and easy to clean? ShakeSphere's Tumbler Steel model, the metallic version of it's original design (made from specialist plastics and silicone), ticks off all the boxes. Made from steel with copper finish, it comes in a patented capsule-shaped design that uses centrifugal force to blend protein powders and puree fruits. The functional slide cap makes it leak-proof. Available on Shakesphere.in; ₹8,499.
SECOND SKIN
When you are pumping it in adrenaline-fuelled environs of a gym, comfort clothing becomes top priority. You don't want a bulky t-shirt impeding you as you perform your squats or planks. This explains the popularity of seamless knitted t-shirts these days. This pale blue seamless T-shirt from popular fitness apparel brand Gym Shark's new collection is a good example. Made from physique-enhancing knitted material, it's equipped with one-fourth zipper and body-mapping eyelet details stitched into the fabric to enhance its breathability. Available on Eu.gymshark.com; ₹11,446.

Yukta Mookhey slams people trolling Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and commenting on her daughter Aaradhya Bachchan: 'It's violation of boundaries, mera naman hai uss stree ko'

Former Miss World Yukta Mookhey who won the pageant in 1999 has been away from the limelight for quite a while. In a recent interview, she has spoken about other actresses who have also been pageant winners - be it Sushmita Sen or Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. She also spoke about Juhi Chawla and how gracious she has been. While Sushmita had won the Miss Universe title in 1994, Aishwarya was crowned Miss World in the same year. As Yukta was shown a picture with both of them and Diana Haydon, she spoke fondly of the three ladies. She recalled how Sushmita was extremely encouraging of her, while Aishwarya was so well spoken, poised and dignified and this is what is so inspiring about these women, apart from just their outer beauty. Speaking about Diana, she said during this chat with Filmy Media, "Diana was like an elder sister. She prepped me thoroughly about to say, what not to say, how to stay mindful. Her advice made me feel supported and prepared.' She was then asked if it's fair for people to now comment on Aishwarya's weight gain or just how she's looking. Yukta was also asked about the way people comment not just on Aishwarya but also her family and daughter Aaradhya. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Yukta reacted and expressed it's quite sad and people should stop it. She said, "It's a clear violation of boundaries, chaahe woh public figure ho, chaahe woh accessible ho. This is not a way to treat a lady who has made so much name for our country, not just because she's Miss World but also what she's done at Cannes or with work in Hollywood. Aaj tak unke mukh se kisi ke liye bura nahi nikla. Mera naman hai uss stree ko jisne aaj tak kisi ke liye kuch nahi bola. Unki bacchi joh innocent hai, woh public mein leke aa rahi hai, iska matlab yeh thodi hai ke aap unke liye bolenge. Woh iss desh ki beti hai, iss desh ki grand-daughter hai. She's Amitabh Bachchan 's granddaughter, aap yeh toh socho ke kiske baare mein bol rahe ho. (I bow down to that lady Aishwarya who has never said anything bad about anyone. Just because she gets her daughter in public, doesn't give anyone the right to comment on her. Atleast think who are you even talking about. She's Amitabh Bachchan's grand-daughter)." Further talking about Aaradhya, Yukta added, "I've seen some videos of her and she's just as dignified as her mother. This is culture." She added, "It's a reflection of society. Poore naakhun nikaalke noch lena. (It's like people are ripping out their nails and attacking someone). We are misusing freedom of speech. Bohot galat ho raha hai. It's better we not normalise it." Yukta also added that film people should protect their children from the public eye till they get matured and that's the right way to go about it.

Pedro Pascal doubles down on LGBTQ+ Allyship after J.K. Rowling showdown: 'Bullies make me sick'

'Protect the dolls.' At the Thunderbolts (2025) screening in London, Pedro Pascal's T-shirt said that. And he completely swears by those words. Nobody is surprised that Pedro is an enthusiastic LGBTQ+ ally. Naturally, there is a personal connection because in 2021, his sister Lux Pascal came out as transgender. However, the broader narrative boldly amplifies the passion. Pedro is strongly committed to preserving the sense of community. And he's determined to change things. "The one thing that I would say I agonized over a little bit was just, 'Am I helping?'" he recently stated in an interview with Vanity Fair. "Am I f***ing helping?" he asked, adding, "It's a situation that deserves the utmost elegance so that something can actually happen, and people will actually be protected. I want to protect the people I love. But it goes beyond that. Bullies make me f***ing sick." Naturally, this is not the first time that the most popular parasocial boyfriend has strengthened his position. He and J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series, got into a heated public argument earlier this year over her celebration of the UK Supreme Court's April 2025 decision. To put it in perspective, the Equality Act states that the term "woman" should refer to biological females, thereby excluding trans women from legal recognition in some situations. On the day of the decision, she wrote, beneath a photo of herself holding a drink in one hand and a cigar in the other, "I love it when a plan comes together." This was consistent with her long history of publicly and aggressively opposing transgender people. Pedro felt the same way that JK Rowling did. "Awful disgusting s***...heinous LOSER behavior," the actor wrote in response to a reel by activist Tariq Ra'ouf advocating for a boycott of the Rowling and Harry Potter franchises. In terms of his career, Pedro recently completed the release of Materialists, in which he co-stars with Chris Evans and Dakota Johnson.

After JK Rowling showdown, Pedro Pascal doubles down on his LGBTQ+ allyship: 'Bullies make me sick'

'Protect the dolls'. That's what Pedro Pascal's T-shirt read at the London screening of Thunderbolts (2025). Pedro Pascal doubles down on his LGBTQ+ allyship: Bullies make me sick(Photos: X) And those are words he absolutely swears by. Pedo being a staunch LGBTQ+ ally is a surprise to no one. There's a personal connection rooted in it of course, with his sister Lux Pascal having come out as trans in 2021. But the passion is actually magnified, and assertively so, for the broader narrative to. The sense of community, that's what Pedro is aggressively passionate about protecting. And he really, really wants to make a different. Recently speaking to Vanity Fair, he said, "The one thing that I would say I agonized over a little bit was just, 'Am I helping? Am I f***ing helping?", adding, "It's a situation that deserves the utmost elegance so that something can actually happen, and people will actually be protected. I want to protect the people I love. But it goes beyond that. Bullies make me f***ing sick". This of course, isn't the first time everyone's favourite parasocial boyfriend, has doubled down on his stance. Earlier this year, he and Harry Potter author JK Rowling had quite the public row over her celebrating the April 2025 UK Supreme Court ruling — for context, under the Equality Act, the definition of 'woman' should refer to biological females, effectively excluding legal recognition of trans women in certain contexts. "I love it when a plan comes together", is what she wrote on the day of the ruling, under a picture of her with a drink in one hand and a cigar in the other. This fell right in line with her long history of being aggressively and very publicly anti-trans. Seeing as JK Rowling voiced exactly how she felt, so did Pedro. Responding to a reel by activist Tariq Ra'ouf calling for a boycott of Rowling and Harry Potter franchises, the actor wrote, "Awful disgusting S*** … Heinous LOSER behavior". On the work front, Pedro just saw through the release of Materialists, in which he stars along side Dakota Johnson and Chris Evans.
