Two central agencies procure 90,000 tonnes of onions so far, to complete target by first week of Aug
Nashik: Two central govt agencies have procured around 90,000 tonnes of onions from the farmer producers' companies so far against Centre's target of 3 lakh tonnes for these agencies to create a buffer stock. The National Agricultural Co-operative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (Nafed) and the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India Limited (NCCF) procured onions at the average price of Rs 1,634 per quintal during the last three weeks. At present, both the agencies are procuring onions at the rate of Rs 1,575 per quintal. The rates are decided by the department of consumer affairs of Union govt. Officials from the two agencies said they would complete their procurement target by Aug first week. "While NCCF has procured 54,000 tonnes of onions so far, Nafed has procured 35,000 tonnes," an official said. Union govt undertakes onion procurement annually to create a buffer stock to manage the supply of onions, particularly during the potential scarcity periods around Aug-Sept each year. Last year, govt procured 4.7 lakh tonnes of onions through Nafed and NCCF to build the buffer stock. "We have also started the registration of farmers who want to sell their produce to NCCF. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Could Be the Best Time to Trade Gold in 5 Years IC Markets Learn More Undo They can register on our web portal. Recently, state agriculture minister Manikrao Kokate and the marketing and protocol minister Jaykumar Rawal met Union consumer minister Pralhad Joshi in Delhi, requesting him to double the onion procurement target by Union govt from 3 lakh tonnes to 6 lakh tonnes, and procure onions directly from the farmers through auctions at the APMCs. Joshi assured both the state ministers to look into their demands positively. But even after a week, no decision has been taken in this connection.

26k flats in stalled Amrapali projects ready, 8k by Sept
Noida: Marred by delays over GRAP restrictions and fund crisis, National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) will complete the construction of 8,000 flats in the stalled projects of Amrapali Group by Sept 2025, six months after its initial deadline of March. Of the 37,000 stalled units that govt-run construction company was tasked to complete under Supreme Court-appointed court receiver, 26,800 flats have been constructed so far. The last of the stalled projects, Adarsh Awas Yojna, is expected to be ready by March 2026. NBCC officials said once units are ready, they notify the court receiver, which verifies documents before issuing no-objection certificates (NOCs) to homebuyers. NBCC CMD KP Mahadevaswamy told TOI that although the projects were initially planned for completion by March 2025, construction-related restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) and delays in approvals for additional floor area ration (FAR) led to a funding crunch. "As a result, the first phase will now conclude by Sept 2025, except for Adarsh Awas Yojna, which has close to 2,000 flats and will be completed by March 2026," he added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Experience the thrill on every turn with the new SP125 Honda Learn More Undo NBCC has collected around Rs 2,600 crore from buyers, with Rs 500 crore still pending from about 3,900 units. Currently, work is underway in two phases of Verona Heights and Dream Valley Phase 2, and some other projects. Launched in 2010, Amrapali projects faced severe delays, prompting homebuyers to approach the National Consumer Forum and later the Supreme Court in 2017. Following an SC-ordered forensic audit submitted in March 2019, which revealed gross fund mismanagement, the court appointed a receiver and designated NBCC as the project management consultant in July 2019. Initially, NBCC struggled with funding but later secured Rs 650 crore from SBI CAP for six projects and a Rs 1,500 crore loan from a consortium of banks. It also collected Rs 2,200 crore from homebuyers and recovered around Rs 2,000 crore by selling Amrapali promoters' assets to keep the construction moving. NBCC has also infused over Rs 650 crore from its own funds.

New Chandu Budhera unit launched by Haryana CM, water supply gets big boost in Gurgaon
Gurgaon: At 670 MLD now, the city's water infrastructure has received a much-needed push. On Wednesday, Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini inaugurated a 100 MLD treatment unit at the Chandu Budhera plant. With the commissioning of this unit, the total capacity of the Chandu Budhera plant has increased to 400 MLD. Adding to Basai's 270 MLD, the city now has a combined water treatment capacity of 670 MLD. GMDA officials said the new unit would increase per capita water availability from 100 to 155 litres a day. A senior GMDA official told TOI, "This unit will benefit areas that have depended on groundwater or tankers. We are now in a better position to offer them consistent supply from treated canal water." You Can Also Check: Gurgaon AQI | Weather in Gurgaon | Bank Holidays in Gurgaon | Public Holidays in Gurgaon The Chandu Budhera water treatment plant now comprises four treatment units, with the third one commissioned in 2019. The new unit — the fourth at the facility — was built at a cost of Rs 63.18 crore and is expected to benefit over 4.5 lakh residents across 34 sectors, from Sector 81 to 115, and parts of the old city that have long faced irregular supply. The plant will treat raw water drawn from the NCR canal and supply it to households in areas like Laxman Vihar, Tikona Park, New Colony, Jyoti Park, Arjun Nagar, Sector 12A and Dayanand Colony, thereby reducing the dependence on borewells. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo To keep pace with demand, GMDA is also working on a fifth unit at Chandu Budhera. Around 40% of the civil work has been completed, and machinery is being procured. The authority hopes to commission the fifth unit by Dec. Two boosting stations — one in Sector 72 and another in Gwal Pahari — are also under construction. These are expected to be functional by Sept this year and March 2026, respectively, and will help regulate supply. The inauguration comes at a time when the city's population and real estate footprint are expanding rapidly, putting additional pressure on civic infrastructure. While high-rise townships in new sectors have grown rapidly, parts of the old city have seen stagnation in supply, often because of leaky pipelines and low pressure, with hardly any upgrade of boosting stations at the colony or sector level. A study by IIT Roorkee projected that the city's population is likely to touch 46.3 lakh by 2026, requiring a daily water supply of around 970 MLD. Additionally, GMDA is planning to augment the supply with a third treatment facility proposed at Basai part-II. The Phase-1 of the project is expected to cost Rs 190 crore and is estimated to take three years to complete. GMDA officials said technical evaluation of bids for the construction contract is complete and the matter will be placed before the next meeting of the high-powered purchase committee for final approval.
