Sarah Michelle Gellar slams rumors of feud with 'fantastic' Jennifer Love Hewitt
After eagle-eyed fans noticed that the '90s teen idols failed to pose for a picture at the July 14 premiere for the "I Know What You Did Last Summer" sequel, the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" star dismissed the idea that a rift existed.
"For everyone asking - I never got to see @jenniferlovehewitt who is fantastic in the movie. I was inside with my kids when the big carpet happened. And unfortunately JLH didn't come to the after party," Gellar wrote in an Instagram post.
"If you have ever been to one of these it's crazy. I sadly didn't get pics with most of the cast," she added. "But that doesn't change how amazing I think they all are. Unfortunately some things happen only in real life and not online."
Jennifer Love Hewitt stuns in black dress during rare red carpet appearance
USA TODAY reached out to reps for Hewitt for comment. Gellar and Hewitt don't follow one another on Instagram but starred as Helen Shivers and Julie James, respectively, in the original 1997 film as teen targets of a mysterious killer.
In the 2025 version (in theaters July 18), Gellar's husband Freddie Prinze Jr. stars opposite Hewitt, and the plot advances nearly 30 years after murders wreaked havoc on the small North Carolina town.
Gellar and Prinze, who met while filming the 1997 film, were members of a quasi-Brat Pack in the '90s that included Hewitt.
In the new film, new victims (played by Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers and Sarah Pidgeon) are also targeted by a mysterious stalker and seek help from Prinze and Hewitt's characters.
At the July 14 premiere, Hewitt turned heads in a rare red-carpet jaunt of the last few years. In a black dress adorned with beads, Hewitt stunned with copper locks, pairing her all-black look with sparkling heels and rings.
