Traffic plan unveiled, MA Jinnah road to be closed for security measures
Almost 50,000 police personnel will be deployed for the security of Muharram processions in Sindh, said Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon addressing a press conference on Thursday.
The tense geopolitical situation of the region compounded by collaboration of anti-state elements with the hostile neighbour warrants heightened security for the mass gatherings of Muharram.
Sharjeel assured that the Sindh government has made foolproof security arrangements for Muharram.
Most important was the unity of Ummah to defeat the designs of enemies of the country to use Muharram days to fan sectarian hatred and violence.
The senior minister stated that the Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah held meetings with scholars from various schools of thought to assure harmony and reviewed the security plan for gatherings and processions.
Sharjeel told the media that 14,546 police personnel would be deployed for gatherings and 35,116 for Muharram processions, with over 14,000 additional personnel assigned to ensure the security of all events.
He announced that a total of 49,662 police personnel will be deployed across Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, and Shaheed Benazirabad from the 8th to 10th of Muharram to prevent any untoward incidents and maintain peace.
He emphasised that while the Sindh government tolerates criticism, it will not allow anyone to dictate its policies. He added that the government had also proposed allocating a large designated area for protests to ensure that public life remains unaffected.
Traffic plan for three days of Muharram
The Traffic Police have announced a special traffic plan for 8th, 9th, and 10th of Muharram. Under the plan, MA Jinnah Road will remain closed from Guru Mandir to Tower on all three days due to security concerns. The main Muharram processions will begin from Nishtar Park and conclude at Hussainia Iranian Imambargah, passing through its designated routes. Vehicles bearing special stickers issued for the procession will be allowed to join.
As per the announced plan for traffic, commuters from Nazimabad can travel through Lasbela Chowk via Nishtar Road and Garden. Those coming from Liaquatabad can turn right at Teen Hatti towards Lasbela Chowk or to left towards Central Jail and Martin Road.
Motorists coming from Hassan Square and heading to the PP Chowrangi can use Kashmir Road under Jail Flyover, Society Light Signal, Sharah-e-Quaideen, and Nishtar Road via Teen Hatti and Lasbela Chowk.
Commuters from Sharea Faisal towards Sharah-e-Quaideen and Noorani Kabab to Numaish can take a right turn at Society traffic light towards Kashmir Road. Those heading to Guru Mandir or MA Jinnah Road via Jail Gate or Jamshed Road can take Bahadur Yar Jang Road and pass through Soldier Bazaar. Similarly, those at Garden Zoo heading to MA Jinnah Road will be diverted via Anklesaria to either Gul Plaza or Coast Guard, near Holy Family Hospital.
All heavy and commercial vehicles from Super Highway or Gulberg towards MA Jinnah Road will be diverted from Liaquatabad No10 to Nazimabad Chowrangi No2, and then proceed via Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road, and Shershah to Mauripur. The same route will apply for return.
Heavy traffic coming from National Highway will take Sharea Faisal or Rashid Minhas Road, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road, Hassan Square, Liaquatabad No10, and Nazimabad Chowrangi No2 towards Mauripur, and will follow the same route back.
The Traffic Police spokesperson clarified that no small or large vehicles will be allowed beyond Guru Mandir Chowk on the procession route. All such traffic will be diverted towards Bahadur Yar Jang Road and Soldier Bazaar. Vehicles with stickers will be allowed entry from Sharah-e-Quaideen via Society Light Signal.
Participants arriving from Nazimabad may enter via Lasbela, Al-Bela, Garden Jamaat Khana, Soldier Bazaar No3 traffic light to Numaish. Those from Liaquatabad, Teen Hatti, Jehangir Road, Guru Mandir, Society signal, Gulistan-e-Johar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, University Road, Old Sabzi Mandi, Kashmir Road can also through Numaish.
Vehicles distributing niaz or tabarruk will only be allowed entry into the procession from Tower near Memon Masjid. No vehicle will be permitted to park along the procession route.d

Urban mobility, education and roads: Sindh CM approves several projects
KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah presided over the 47th meeting of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Policy Board, reviewed and approved several transformative infrastructure and development projects aimed at enhancing urban mobility, vocational education, recreational spaces and road connectivity across the province. The meeting, held at CM House, was attended by provincial ministers Sharjeel Inam Memon, Saeed Ghani, Zia ul Hassan Lanjar, Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, PSCM Agha Wasif, Secretary Transport/DG PPP unit Asad Zamin, members of the board and concerned officials. The board took strategic decisions on a diverse agenda, including the People's Green Transport Project, technical education reforms under STEVTA, the Rani Bagh redevelopment in Hyderabad, and progress on the Shahrah-e-Bhutto corridor. People's Green Transport Project: In a landmark move to overhaul Karachi's transport system, the PPP Policy Board approved engaging Transaction Advisors for the People's Green Transport Project, which aims to introduce 1,000 electric buses across the city. The advisors will assess the Unique Selling Proposition (USP) submitted by a private consortium. If deemed feasible, a detailed project will be implemented under the PPP model, involving phased procurement and operation of 600 twelve-meter and 400 eight-meter electric buses. 10 bus depots will be constructed, and the project will operate on a per kilometer payment model over a 10-year concession period, with ownership of assets transferring to the government thereafter. The Technical Evaluation Committee (TEC) confirmed the project's alignment with sustainable urban mobility goals, while previously appointed transaction advisors will be used to fast-track implementation, avoiding delays in procurement. Shahrah-e-Bhutto Project: The board reviewed key updates on the Shahrah-e-Bhutto high-speed corridor, which stretches upto 39 km from Korangi Creek Avenue (DHA) to the M-9 Motorway near Kathore. Dhabeji SEZ Project: The Board discussed in detail and reviewed the progress on the Dhabeji SEZ project. The Board emphasised the need to expedite the construction activities so that industrial activities can be initiated at the earliest. The STEVTA Reform Plan: The board also reviewed a proposal seeking ratification of Project Development Facility (PDF) funding to conduct feasibility and transaction advisory services for the modernisation of 83 technical and vocational institutes under the Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (STEVTA). This initiative targets one-third of STEVTA's 259 institutes, aiming to address infrastructure gaps, curriculum mismatches, and industry disconnect. With an additional 540 private institutions operating in the sector, this effort is seen as pivotal to advancing Pakistan's National Skills Strategy and Sustainable Development Goals. Rani Bagh Redevelopment Project Nears Execution: Significant progress was reported on the Rani Bagh Development Project in Hyderabad. The board was informed that the Technical and Financial Evaluation Committee (TFEC) has recommended issuing a Letter of Award to the preferred bidder. With the revised Master Plan already endorsed by both the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HMC) and the Sindh Cabinet, the final concession agreement and related documents are ready for execution. The project is set to deliver improved public amenities, recreational facilities, and economic activity in Hyderabad, while also generating employment and stimulating local businesses. Sukkur Water Supply Project: the Board was apprised about the project's salient features, in particular, the scope of work and transaction structure. The Board asked the Sukkur Municipal Corporation to rework the transaction structure and presentation in the next meeting for decision.

Movement plan ready: Aleema
Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, said on Friday that the party leadership had prepared the plans for a mass public movement on the instruction of Imran Khan. Talking to the reporters, Aleema Khan said that the party founder had stated that a mass movement would be launched after Ashira-e-Muharram. When asked about the rumours taking rounds that PML-N could meet Imran, Aleema outright rejected such a notion. "What is there to talk about?" she told the reporter. "Even his own party or his family does not listen to Nawaz Sharif." She said that their focus was on the release of Imran and the establishment of rule of law in the country.

Azma calls for strict enforcement of Muharram SOPs
LAHORE: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari has directed that strict compliance with the Punjab government's Muharram SOPs must be ensured. She emphasized that no changes should be made to traditional procession routes. Adequate lighting, water sprinkling, and CCTV coverage along the routes must be ensured without exception, she said. She urged scholars from all schools of thought to promote patience, tolerance, and interfaith harmony. She also warned of immediate and strict action against those spreading religious hatred on social media. On the special directives of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Information Minister visited Jhang to review the arrangements for the month of Muharram. During the visit, the minister chaired a high-level meeting with district administration, law enforcement agencies and members of the peace committee. Deputy Commissioner Ali Akbar Bhindar and DPO Captain Bilal Iftikhar Kayani (R) gave a detailed briefing on the security arrangements, procession routes and facilities during Muharram. The meeting was also attended by Commissioner Faisalabad Maryam Khan, RPO Zeeshan Asghar, MPA Colonel Ghazanfar Abbas Qureshi (R), former assembly members Muhammad Aslam Bharwana, Muhammad Yaqoob Sheikh, Faisal Hayat Jabboana, Khalid Ghani, Sahibzada Maulana Muhammad Asif Muawiya, Ameer Abbas Sial, along with district peace committee members and Majalis organizers. MPA Colonel Ghazanfar Abbas Qureshi (R) stated that all religious sects are united for peace and are working together to maintain harmony in the district. Later, the minister visited the Safe City Authority Control Room where she was briefed on the real-time CCTV monitoring of the 6th Muharram processions. The Deputy Commissioner informed her that all main procession routes are being continuously monitored through surveillance cameras. Azma Bokhari also inspected Sabeel points across Jhang city, reviewing cleanliness, water availability, and the performance of Food Authority teams.
