Edge AI deployment enables enterprises to save $2.07 million

An economic analysis by Latent AI has identified a shift within enterprise artificial intelligence from cloud-centric models to edge deployments, highlighting significant potential cost savings and scalability improvements for organisations.
The study, entitled "From Cloud-First to Edge-First: The Future of Enterprise AI," presents 2025 as a pivotal year for this transition, citing factors such as rising cloud computing costs, ongoing shortages of GPUs, and increasing energy prices as contributing elements making edge AI deployments more financially attractive.
Latent AI, which focuses on edge AI solutions for national security and defence, conducted the research to investigate both the challenges and the opportunities in adopting edge AI within industries where timely AI adoption is regarded as a key competitive factor.
Jags Kandasamy, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of Latent AI, said: "As enterprise leaders scale AI deployments, they must weigh performance gains against infrastructure investments when evaluating edge versus cloud strategies. With tighter budgets and growing demands for real-time processing, organizations can no longer afford the heavy computational costs of cloud-only solutions. This is where edge-optimized AI proves transformative. From Cloud-First to Edge-First explains how an edge-first approach reduces hardware requirements by 92% while preserving model accuracy, enabling broader AI deployment and enhancing competitive advantage."
The analysis assesses both direct costs, such as hardware and energy, and indirect benefits, such as operational continuity, deployment speed, and lifecycle management. To illustrate the economic impact, the report examines a manufacturing company that initially used a cloud-based AI system with 50 GPUs to process 100 image streams for defect detection across its production line.
The company incurred hardware costs of USD $224,000 per site, which rendered expansion across multiple locations impractical due to financial constraints.
Applying edge AI optimisation and advanced quantisation techniques allowed the manufacturer to reduce its GPU requirement from 50 to 4 per site. This represented a 92% reduction, lowering hardware expenditure to USD $18,000 per deployment and saving USD $207,000 per site, or a total of USD $2.07 million if scaled across ten locations.
Along with the decrease in hardware, memory use fell by 73%—from 14.1GB to 3.8GB per model—while inference speed improved by 73%, boosting defect detection time from 55.2 milliseconds to 14.7 milliseconds. The report noted that model accuracy remained nearly identical, with AU-ROC scores of 0.99127 versus 1.0. The efficiencies also extended to energy, with savings between 65% and 80%, and the elimination of network transfer costs as a result of data being processed locally.
The analysis identifies additional factors driving the economic inflection point for edge AI. Among these are optimisation technologies such as mature quantisation and pruning, which enhance edge model performance and reduce resource requirements; AI accelerators designed by companies like NVIDIA that allow powerful AI processing on resource-constrained devices; and the need for reliability in mission-critical deployments, where edge AI can offer resilience and eliminate dependence on cloud infrastructure.
The research also highlights the impact of evolving data privacy regulations, including those resembling GDPR, which increasingly favour local data processing to reduce both data transmission requirements and compliance concerns. More mature development frameworks are now available, which Latent AI says simplifies edge deployment and makes access easier for a broader range of organisations.
Kandasamy commented further: "Technology shifts don't happen overnight. They build momentum until a tipping point emerges. For edge AI, 2025 is widely recognized as that moment, mirroring the rise of cloud computing in the early-to-mid 2000s. We're seeing technological maturity, economic pressures, and market needs align to drive rapid adoption, offering enterprises a rare chance to gain a lasting edge."
The report makes several recommendations for organisations seeking to leverage the cost advantages of edge AI. These include investing in infrastructure tailored to edge deployments, such as servers and IoT devices designed for scalability; optimising AI models for low-latency, energy-efficient performance at the edge; and balancing the use of cloud and edge resources, with a focus on training in the cloud and inference at the edge to reduce ongoing costs.

The first fully licensed, commercially available AI model for the video production industry was released today by Toronto-based software company Moonvalley. Last November, the organisation announced USD $70 million to "develop the future of generative media." One of those developments, Marey, was released for general availability this morning. Marey is a learning model capable of precision controls, complex VFX sequences, and maintaining complete creative authority for filmmakers and studios. The model was trained on original 1080p content, capable of developing sharper videos up to five seconds in length at 24 frames per second. Feature highlights include ​​​​​​: Camera control for creating a 3D atmosphere from a single image; Trajectory control for natural scene movement; Motion transfer for copying object movement from one animation to the next; Keyframing for generating smooth transitions between images; Referencing for integrating reference images into existing video; Pose control for more nuanced actor performances; Shot extension for extending an original video. Naeem Talukdar, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Moonvalley, said the creation of Marey was a direct response to industry feedback on existing offerings. "We built Marey because the industry told us existing AI video tools don't work for serious production." Talukdar added that the model provides users with creative control and legal peace of mind, as Marley partners with creators rather than exploiting copyrighted material. Notably, Disney and Universal sued AI image generator Midjourney last month, claiming the AI firm copied proprietary images while training its learning models. Moonvalley states that Marey's architecture was built using exclusively licensed, high-definition content, rather than scraped or user-generated material. This approach, the company says, aims to address copyright concerns while providing a tool suitable for commercial application. Today's launch follows six months of partnerships with Moonvalley's studio, Asteria, and three months of testing with external partners. Moonvalley said that "through this process, teams refined unprecedented control over objects, characters, motion, and scene composition to deliver the accuracy, precision, and directorial control that filmmakers need to enable groundbreaking creative work." Moonvalley stated that these functionalities enable not only enhanced VFX capabilities for studios and brands but also allow independent filmmakers access to visuals that typically require larger budgets. "Marey isn't just another model—it's a creative unlock," said Hussein Dembel Sow, a Senegalese independent filmmaker and screenwriter. "It gives filmmakers like me the freedom to experiment and innovate without the financial burden or scarcity of production opportunities. New Relic has appointed Lauren Nemeth as its new Chief Revenue Officer (CRO). Nemeth will bring her extensive experience in go-to-market leadership from various technology enterprises, service providers, and developer technology brands to help drive New Relic's business growth worldwide. According to New Relic, Nemeth has spent over 20 years in technology sales and product leadership roles. Her experience ranges from building products at pre-revenue startups to growing multi-billion-dollar businesses, with a history of commercialising offerings for organisations with annual revenue exceeding USD $4.5 billion. Throughout her career, Nemeth has also been involved in six acquisition processes and two public offerings. Prior to joining New Relic, Nemeth served as Chief Operating Officer at Pinecone and previously held the role of CRO at Twilio, where she played a key role in scaling the business and managing teams covering customer and partner success, operations, support, field engineering, carrier relations, and marketing. She has also held senior positions at organisations including Nextdoor, Turn, and URX. Capgemini to acquire WNS for USD $3.3 billion in AI expansion

Capgemini has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire WNS for a total cash consideration of USD $3.3 billion, in a move expected to position Capgemini as a global leader in AI-powered intelligent operations. The purchase price of USD $76.50 per share represents a premium of 28% over the average share price in the last 90 days and 17% over the closing price on 3 July 2025. Both firms' boards of directors have unanimously approved the transaction, with closing anticipated by year-end, subject to regulatory and shareholder approvals. Strategic rationale According to Capgemini, the acquisition aligns with a growing trend among enterprises looking to transform end-to-end operations using Generative and Agentic AI, especially within business process services (BPS). The combined entity aims to capitalise on what both businesses describe as a paradigm shift from traditional BPS to intelligent, AI-driven operations. "Enterprises are rapidly adopting Generative AI and Agentic AI to transform their operations end-to-end. Business Process Services will be the showcase for Agentic AI. Capgemini's acquisition of WNS will provide the Group with the scale and vertical sector expertise to capture that rapidly emerging strategic opportunity created by the paradigm shift from traditional BPS to Agentic AI-powered Intelligent Operations," comments Aiman Ezzat, Chief Executive Officer of Capgemini. Financial impact and integration On a financial basis, Capgemini has secured bridge financing totalling EUR €4.0 billion, with plans to refinance through available cash and new debt issuance. The deal is projected to be accretive to Capgemini's normalised earnings per share by 4% prior to synergies in 2026, rising to 7% with synergies by 2027. Revenue synergies are estimated between EUR €100 million and €140 million annually by the end of 2027, while cost and operating model synergies are anticipated to reach EUR €50 million to €70 million per year within the same timeframe. Combined, the two organisations would have generated EUR €23.3 billion in revenue at a 13.6% operating margin in 2024, based on published information. Capgemini expects the integration to be smooth, citing both companies' shared values and cultural alignment, as well as Capgemini's record of successful past integrations. The merger will further strengthen Capgemini's global business services, especially in the US market where WNS has a strong presence. Market context and future outlook WNS, which reported revenues of USD $1,266 million and an 18.7% operating margin in fiscal year 2025, has focused on providing digital-led BPS solutions to clients in eight industries. The company has achieved approximately 9% constant currency revenue growth on average over the last three fiscal years. Capgemini believes that combining WNS's industry-specific expertise with its own consulting and AI capabilities will allow the enlarged group to support organisations seeking end-to-end transformation through advanced technologies and platforms. Both companies say the acquisition will enable them to address rapidly-growing demand for AI-driven business process redesign, which is increasingly prioritised by enterprises aiming to improve efficiency, agility and business outcomes. With market analysts and Capgemini's clients reportedly recognising the group's leadership in AI and business transformation, the acquisition of WNS is expected to reinforce Capgemini's role as a partner to organisations on similar transformation journeys.
