Valencia CF secures US$377 million financing for Nou Mestalla stadium
SINGAPORE: Valencia CF has secured financing totalling €322 million (US$377 million) for the development of the Nou Mestalla stadium, the Spanish football club said on Thursday (Jun 26).
The financing, comprising €237 million of notes and €85 million of a short-term loan, is one of the biggest transactions ever completed by a professional football club in Spain and across Europe, Valencia said in a statement.
"Securing this landmark financing gives us the green light to deliver Nou Mestalla - a world-class stadium that will power the club's growth for generations," Kiat Lim, Valencia CF President, said in the statement. Lim is the son of Singaporean billionaire Peter Lim, who is the club's majority owner.
The stadium, which is located in the city of Valencia and will have over 70,000 seats, is scheduled to open in 2027. It is expected to multiply the revenue currently generated at its old Mestalla facility, Valencia CF said.
"Given the expanded hospitality, greater capacity, and multi-purpose event hosting, early estimates suggest that we will be more than tripling the current revenue," Kiat Lim said.
Valencia CF was advised by Bibium Capital, Addleshaw Goddard, Beka Titulizacion and Goldman Sachs, with Spain's La Liga providing support to the club in the process, according to the statement.

SPIELBERG, Austria :The Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring will stay on the calendar through 2041 after announcing on Sunday a contract extension that equals Miami as the longest in Formula One. Verstappen has won a record five times in Spielberg, a 4.3km circuit known for its picturesque backdrop and undulating layout. The late Red Bull founder Dietrich Mateschitz, whose son Mark is now at the helm, invested heavily in renovating the circuit. "I am delighted that Formula One will remain at the Red Bull Ring for many years to come. I am proud to continue my father's legacy," he said.

Ferrari boss Vasseur hands over to D'Ambrosio for Austrian GP
SPIELBERG, Austria :Ferrari Formula One boss Fred Vasseur has left the Austrian Grand Prix to return home for personal reasons with deputy Jerome d'Ambrosio taking over for Sunday's race at Spielberg, the team said. Ferrari had Charles Leclerc set to start on the front row alongside McLaren's pole-sitter Lando Norris and seven times world champion Lewis Hamilton fourth on the grid. The Italian team have yet to win this season and Frenchman Vasseur has come under increasing pressure with speculation about his future. Belgian D'Ambrosio is a former racer who joined Ferrari from Mercedes and has been deputy principal since last October. Topuria knocks out Oliveira to win UFC lightweight title
LAS VEGAS :Spain's Ilia Topuria scored a stunning first-round knockout victory over Charles Oliveira to claim the UFC lightweight title at UFC 317 on Saturday, with Alexandre Pantoja securing a third-round submission win over Kai Kara-France to retain the flyweight title in the co-main event. The 28-year-old stunned Oliveira with a right hook and followed it up with a crunchin left that sent Oliveira crashing to the mat, his eyes glazed as his back hit the canvas as Topuria fulfilled his pre-fight prediction of a first-round knockout win. "I already said it - I represent the new generation of the mix of martial arts, this is the next level of the game. This is the next thing, and this is what I represent," Topuria said in a post-fight interview.
