As concerns mount over Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine, US Senator Lindsey Graham has warned countries, including India, of severe economic sanctions soon.
In an interview on CBS's Face the Nation, Graham disclosed that he and Senator Richard Blumenthal have garnered strong bipartisan support in the Senate for a broad sanctions package aimed at nations supporting Russia's war efforts through trade, particularly in oil and petroleum products.
'This congressional package that we're looking at would give President Trump the ability to impose 500 per cent tariffs on any country that helps Russia, and props up Putin's war machine. He can dial it up or down. He can go to 0 per cent, to 500 per cent. He has maximum flexibility,' said Graham.

Graham specifically called out India, China, and Brazil, criticising New Delhi for buying discounted Russian oil and 'reselling' it, which he claims indirectly funds Putin's military campaign.
'India buys oil from Russia cheap and resells it. That's despicable,' Graham declared, adding that these nations 'are about to get hurt big time if you keep helping Putin.'
He also claimed that the sanctions were actually a 'sledgehammer' available to President Donald Trump to 'go after Putin's economy'.

This push for tough economic measures comes as Trump considers additional aid for Ukraine, with intelligence reports warning that Russia could make significant territorial gains by next year if Ukraine's drone and artillery supplies remain insufficient.
Graham also teased upcoming announcements about arms sales and redirecting seized Russian assets to strengthen Ukraine's defences.
'Stay tuned for a plan where America will start selling large quantities of weapons to our European allies to help Ukraine,' he said.
He stressed that, with diplomatic efforts to engage Moscow failing, intense economic pressure might be the only way to end the conflict.

In one year, Chandigarh sees more than 200 immigration fraud cases, with total scam money worth more than Rs 40 crore
Since the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on July 1, 2024, Chandigarh has witnessed a spike in immigration fraud incidents, with 200 cases being registered till June, 2025, while nearly 60 FIRs have been registered in the last six months only, and an amount of more than Rs 40 crore has been reportedly involved in it. According to the Chandigarh Police website — as of now only 429 immigration companies are registered in the records of the UT police, whereas more than 500 companies are running illegally without permission. In 2024, the police identified 42 such firms involved in immigration fraud and most of them were set up in sectors 17, 22, 34, 36, 37, 39, and 40, and the Chandigarh Police had last year arrested around 100 owners of different immigration firms for running their businesses without obtaining valid permission from the UT administration. Investigations have revealed that most accused were running illegal immigration consultancies without mandatory licenses. Victims — often aspiring to go abroad for work or study — were lured with false promises and charged hefty fees. In several cases, individuals were defrauded of Rs 15–30 lakh. In some instances, more than 100 people were duped by a single racket. Many fraudsters accepted money on the pretext of sending people to countries like Canada, Australia, and European nations for jobs or higher education. The accused collected money in cash or through bank accounts and later disappeared, sold assets, or shut offices without informing the investors. To prevent future fraud, the UT police has launched a verification drive to identify unlicensed or fraudulent agents operating within Chandigarh. A police official said that action will be taken under the Immigration Act against those found violating norms. Police have also appealed to the public to verify immigration consultants through government portals before making any payments or signing documents.

As per Trump, Indonesia has pledged to purchase $15 billion worth of US energy, $4.5 billion in agricultural products, and 50 Boeing jets, many of them the long-haul 777 models. In return, Indonesian goods entering the US will face a flat 19 per cent tariff, while American exports to Indonesia will reportedly be exempt from both tariff and non-tariff barriers. 'If there is any transshipment from a higher tariff country, then that tariff will be added on to the tariff that Indonesia is paying,' Trump warned in his post, reinforcing provisions to avoid tariff circumvention.
