A day in Al Wasl: what to eat, where to shop and fun things to do
Al Wasl is really that girl – it is the place to be, especially in recent times, for all things food, lifestyle, art and fun, and just a general, all-around good time. It used to be a quiet, posh corner of Jumeirah where you went for the occasional date at one of the ever-popular cafes. Now, even the options for such cafes have ballooned into mind-boggling variety, along with fresh dining concepts that are adding colour and personality to the strip. Fall in line with the rest of the city with this guide. Dine here… Manāo
Manāo's compact space, minimal, bare-Earth interiors and the absence of foam, fizz, smoke, leaf of various precious metals, caviar, demonstrations, installations, dust from the moon, water from Mars and fire from the sun means there is only one thing in focus – the food. This is a flavour-driven, chef-driven restaurant. Come as you are, dine, drink and leave wanting to do it all over again. Discover something new this Valentine's
Manāo, Wasl Vita, Jumeirah, daily, 7pm to 11pm, closed on Mon, Tel: (0) 4 272 2389, @manao_dubai a normal day
This new bistro sits inside Dar Wasl and looks unassuming at first glance, but that is the joy of casual dining – no nonsense, only good food. It's meant to feel cosy, peaceful, like a home, where you can savour daytime delights, sip a cup of freshly-brewed coffee, indulge in some thoughtful conversation. A lot of the food is good breakfast fare, comfort classics and simple, flavourful things. This is a new brand of restaurants taking over in Dubai, straying away from the frilly grandeur of things and keeping it simple but meaningful. Try the cacio e pepe – you won't be disappointed.

This is a family-run affair – Itadaku feels incredibly traditional and rooted, and the space in Wasl Vita Mall is small, laid back and welcoming. Great for nights out, the spot serves authentic, ingredient driven fare that speaks for itself. While not shorts-and-flip-flops level of casual (if someone shows up to your date like that, run the other way), it strikes a pretty great balance between fancy and simple, and is also spontaneity friendly so your weeknights are also sorted.

While there isn't much in terms of options for Singaporean Malay cuisine in Dubai, this restaurant is a deeply endearing tribute to Chef Akmal's roots and reflects a story of home and hardwork. This was the name his mother had chosen for their family's 32-year-old nasi padang hawker stall in Teck Whye, Singapore. The menu at Harummanis fuses traditional dishes with a modern twist while still honouring their roots. Highlights include the beef cheeks rendang, slow-cooked in coconut stew and ketoprak, an Indonesian salad reimagined with Japanese sesame sauce and kombu in place of the traditional peanut dressing.

As a shining example of the country's homegrown dining scene, Sufret Maryam perfectly embodies the essence of the UAE: A home away from home.

@theroxycinemas The great cafe crawl: an Al Wasl special… Bagel Yard
Bagel Yard brings to Dubai the taste of freshly-made bagels from Montreal. It's a little bit of a different offering than your usual cafe varieties and just the thing to add some variety to your coffee dates.

Sip the Story: Flying Elephant Mystical Mixology Introduces Handcrafted Cocktails Inspired by India's Spirit and Soul
At Flying Elephant Mystical Mixology, every cocktail is more than a drink—it's a journey through India's layered culture, crafted by one of the UAE's finest talents behind the bar. Spearheading this unique cocktail narrative is Rishwathan Kumaravel, Flying Elephant's Bar Manager and Head Mixologist, whose decade of experience has shaped a beverage program that bridges nostalgia, craftsmanship, and innovation. Known for transforming ordinary spirits into storytelling masterpieces, Rishwathan has drawn inspiration from India's rich tapestry—from the bustling streets of Kolkata's Tangra to the serene backwaters of Kerala—to create a lineup of cocktails that evoke memory, place, and emotion. Take for instance the 'Fruit Seller'—a honeyed, zesty concoction with roasted pineapple and palm candy that pays tribute to India's vibrant street fruit vendors, whose cheerful calls and colorful carts mark daily life in local markets. Then there's the 'Orange County Coffee', a tribute to Chikmagalur's legacy of coffee cultivation, blending orange-infused Indian whisky with caramel and tonic to offer a warm yet refreshing sip of heritage. 'Each cocktail is a page from our cultural diary,' says Rishwathan. 'I wanted to go beyond the typical; I wanted every element—the aroma, the garnish, the first sip—to trigger a memory or a story.' The 'Mausambi Hi Ball', crisp and citrusy with a subtle chili twist, is a nod to Mughal-era sharbat traditions, while 'Gulab Jal', made with gulkand and rose essence, captures the cooling summer drinks passed down through generations. For those craving something bolder, the 'Fire Jaan'—coconut-washed bourbon with cardamom bitters—is served with a flame and inspired by the fiery theatrics of Indian street-side celebrations. And the story doesn't end with the menu. Flying Elephant's atmosphere evolves with each day of the week, offering guests immersive experiences that pair perfectly with the cocktail selection: · Monday: Bollywood Lounge Nights with a live Indian band set the tone for a nostalgic start to the week. · Tuesday: Forbidden Tuesdays—a Ladies Night featuring DJ Bling and exclusive offers. · Wednesday: Bombay Velvet Gents Night with live band performance for a masculine twist on vintage glamour. · Thursday: The Elephant's Club – Hotelier, Crew & Media Networking Nights curated for industry professionals. · Friday: Jazz Night comes alive with De Cruz Entertainment and their soulful, sultry sets. · Saturday: The Elephant in the Room- Mystical Brunch with live band followed by an After Party with DJ Bling, transforms the venue into a mystical whimsical world of music, food, and mixology. And throughout the week (Monday to Friday), Business Lunches and Mystic Happy Hours ensure that daytime guests can enjoy just as much flavor and flair as the night crowd. Whether you're here for a celebratory drink, a soulful night out, or a taste of India's hidden histories, Flying Elephant Mystical Mixology is where tradition gets a twist—and every cocktail has a story worth telling. Revolver, Dubai's Hottest Fire Driven Modern Indian Grill, Teams up with Emirati-Owned, Maisan15 for a One-Night-Only Feast of Flavours
Revolver Dubai's pop-up series returns this summer with its most artistic and soulful collaboration yet. For one night only, on Thursday, July 17th at 7PM, Revolver teams up with beloved neighbourhood gem Maisan15 for a dinner experience that fuses open-fire Indian flair with Levantine comfort. This twelve-course set menu is a celebration of culinary craftsmanship, community, and creative spirit, blending spice, smoke and storytelling into a night that's anything but ordinary. Since launching in Dubai earlier this year, Revolver has been on a mission to shake up the city's culinary scene with a dynamic series of one-night-only pop-ups that throw out the rulebook and invite some of the region's most exciting chefs to take over its fire-led kitchen. Following memorable collaborations with Chef Ali Yazdi and Chef Reif Othman, each event has celebrated fearless flavour and boundary-breaking cooking in an intimate, high-energy setting. With every edition, Revolver continues to prove that the best nights out don't always come with an encore. The next chapter in this series sees Chef Jitin Joshi of Revolver join forces with Chef Rita Soueidan of Maisan15. Together, they've crafted an unexpected journey through twelve punchy, playful courses, showcasing a menu that weaves together heritage, technique and instinct. From Duck Fat Potatoes with Kashmiri Chilli to a soul-warming Black Cod Sayadieh, and an indulgent Flourless Chocolate and Cardamom Cake, this is mezze reimagined, where Levant meets spice, and tradition meets fire. Expect a multi-sensory ride through hot and cold mezze, layered mains, and decadent desserts, all seasoned with stories and served at the chef's counter. Dishes like Vine Leaf Rice with shiitake and cumin raita and Chickpea & Fennel Falafel with pickled kohlrabi reflect Maisan15's earthy, produce-forward cooking, while Revolver brings the heat with bold signatures like Charred Chicken Musakhan and Lamb Rib Nihari with Levant pickles. The menu, priced at AED 350, is both a homage and a remix, combining Rita's Levantine roots and Jitin's mastery of fire-led Indian cuisine with seasonal ingredients and playful twists. There's Lentil Hummus topped with short rib and pomegranate molasses, and a reimagined Baba Ghanoush lifted with curry leaf furikake. On the sweeter side, a fragrant Burnt Citrus dessert rounds off the experience with orange blossom and saffron yoghurt. The collaboration with Maisan15 marks a deeply personal moment for Revolver. Nestled in a leafy courtyard in Al Barsha South, Maisan15 is a cult favourite, a café-gallery hybrid founded by artist Rami Farook that's as much a creative hub as it is a restaurant. With Chef Rita at the helm, it has quietly built a reputation for soul-nourishing dishes, warm hospitality and a fiercely loyal community. Bringing Maisan15's essence into Revolver's kitchen is a convergence of two philosophies built on heart, heat, and a love for the unexpected. With limited seating and no repeats, this is a one-night kitchen takeover, a meeting of minds, and a rare chance to see two distinct culinary styles collide. Book now and taste the magic before it disappears. When: Thursday, July 17th from 7PM onwards Offer: 12-course dinner collaboration between Revolver and Maisan15 Price: AED 350 per person Location: Revolver Dubai, The Opus by Omniyat, Business Bay *For bookings, click here *For more information, please email [email protected], call +9714 2579334, or WhatsApp +971 56 522 0195
